Exactly, HJ hawks are successful, because Coach Fogo has the gym open 24/7, if not they all have access to the Nome Dome, most schools kids are lucky to have access once a week. Too many distractions these days to not shoot in the front yard.

My kid learned her left hand, because she would tell me she is bored in the 4th grade and I would throw her a basketball and make her dribble around the neighborhood with her left hand only!

Yesterday, she drove 2 hours to work with trainer for two hours and drive two hours back. Then came home ran to grocery store bought her food for the week and meal prepped for the week. She works out every single day to get stronger. She has come home after a tough physical game, changed clothes and went and worked out. She has lost 15 pounds since last season and looks faster, quicker, is jumping higher than she ever has.

I’m not talking about school coaching at all, the girls that are playing AAU ball and taking private lessons is what I’m talking about, and like Coach Schu mentioned in youth sports. If a High School coach is teaching and breaking down the shot, it’s too late.

A HS coach should be able to see if a shooter is struggling and make adjustments.
Little Dribblers in this area is the most popular youth basketball in this area and the leagues do not train the coaches, so you end up with a bunch of moms and dads teaching form shooting completely wrong. Then most private lessons focus so much attention on ball handling and getting to the rim and you get scorers from this and not shooters!

I don't think that its not being taught - every coach I know teaches shooting.  it is more about girls in this area don't get in the gym during the off season and work to become great shooters.   During the season is not the time for this - it has to be done in the off season.    The problem is much deeper than how coaches are teaching or not teaching.       I think it has much more to do with what is emphasized by the school, the media, the parents, lil dribbles programs etc.    I would bet everyone of the girls mentioned above has put in some serious time in the off-season shooting.

I agree, but still nice to get that out of the way, game was much closer than it should have been, last two games the intensity for the Lady Indians has been missing!

I agree! Priddy does have a nice looking stroke. I just considered her to be more of a scorer tho.

Nederland’s future is very bright, they are starting three freshman, a sophomore and a Junior.
Nederland got the game within 1 point in the third qtr. They will be a force to recon with over the next couple of years.

Proud of our girls - they played hard.  Our seniors showed up and competed.  We got beat 24-9 in second quarter and never recovered from that run.   We will bounce back - HJ is very good and played a great defense game against us.  Credit to them because that is the worst we have shot all year.

My take from being there and watching first hand was that HJ was able to take away Jasper's bread and butter which is pressure defense, and then that turned it into much more of a half court affair.
HJ has a number of outside shooters who were "on" this game and Jasper could not match the scoring pace. HJ then got nice inside scoring as well as the game went on, and then as they say, "it was a wrap"....
Jasper was working very hard defensively, and i think that my have affected their shooting percentage over the course of the game.
I would also say Jackson's finger prints were all over this game, whether it showed up in the stat book or not...

This is why I have Jasper ranked high, three girls in double digits in scoring, there are at least three other names that I see on the High Scorers for the team. They have at least 7 girls capable of being the high scorer every night, they are probably the deepest team 1-10. They have height, they have speed, they rebound well and they run the floor. There are teams/players that will cause match up problems, but overall they are a strong team!

That was just me playing around, striking up some convo.
United beat Jasper in a scrimmage, when Jasper didn’t have all of their players.
Jasper lost to BH by 1 in Lumberton tourney and lost to Woodville by 6 in Splendora tourney, so I could see
HJ, United, Woodville, BH, Jasper as 1-5 based on head to head. Like I said I had a hard time 1 thru 3, but actually 1 thru 5 was tough, I think they are all clearly head and shoulders above any other local team.

Those Jr. Guards are ok, but it's the sophomore guard and post that's the heartbeat of this team...

I've seen Jasper and of course United in person.  Hopefully,  I'll get a chance to see H-J.  Lots of talk about that guard.

Aren't head to head results usually one of the first things used in tie breaking scenarios? In that line of thinking, strength of schedule is sometimes used as a factor as well, although it is a less concrete and therefore more subjective "stat".
Using the head to head criteria where United beat Jasper, Barbers Hill also defeated Jasper in the defacto Championship Game of the Lumberton Tournament. HJ will play Jasper this Saturday, so that will clear picture up even more.
Would love to see a United vs HJ matchup so I wouldn't have to try to use each team's strength of schedule to determine a ranking edge.
Based on this point in the season, I think the Top 5 on this list could be in arranged in several different configurations that could be plausibly argued.
Any second 5 (i.e. spots 6-10) on this list are several notches down from any teams listed in the Top 5 of this list.
Lastly imo, I would replace Lumberton with PNG, just because I know OneChance just didn't want to put his home team on this list himself and Lumberton doesn't need any attention in their direction.... 😏
