  2. Well Marie, I'm not going to argue with you about what's respectful in your eyes or mine! I firmly believe that we did the right thing and would never second guess my coaching decision or my head coaches decision from this weekend! The opposing team asked if we were ok with running the clock which made the game time fly! We subbed out kids left and right the entire game and yes I pulled my starters on defense because we always do! I love kids and would never want to disrespect a team or player but it's only our fault for teaching the kids to play good defense! I will never tell my kids to let someone score! What is that teaching them? What is that showing our opponent? If you ask 100 coaches and 100 kids if they were losing would they be happy or proud if the opposing team "just let them score" I am sure the answer 200 times would be NO! To me that is more embarrassing then running the score up! I have been in this league for a long time and my real name is Coach Dubby, I have nothing to hide on here! Our coaches love kids and we do what's right in our hearts! No one has a complaint against us nor we against anyone else! I respect your question and I hope you understand my response! We coach to improve and prepare for Friday night ball not just a good story at work!

It seems to me that your team, BMT, PNG W and Ned W Jr  are all doing the same when it comes to getting prepared for Sat and executing what your team is taught. So why BMT/ Ned W Jr  team getting punished? You answered the question pretty much how I figured you would, regarding defense and what is that teaching a kid. Same goes for offense what is it teaching a kid who never runs the ball and has the chance to score but is  being told not to score? I agree there are a number of teams that  are all preparing their kids for the next level and when you see those teams  playing on friday it shows. As you have stated in another post what has been done is done and hopefully those other STJFL Board members will come together for what do what is best for the league. Good Luck in your final 2 games and the playoffs.

  3. I can't say what happened in the Bmt game because I was not there but yes I subbed my entire defense out the full game but let me be clear when I say that we have done that since the first game! We have a firm belief that you are only as good as your weakest player so we do our best to improve them all! We coach defense to be prepared for any situation and my kids get to the play quicker than most! Not bragging but no we're not stacked we just work that hard! Beaumont beat us and even afterward said no one hit them like we did and still haven't! You can make the game fun and respectful you just have to be a coach that's willing to do that! Not everyone can coach that way or better yet chooses to! That is in no way a statement toward any team or coach in this league in speaking of coaching kids in any sport! I believe the bmt coaches are good people, and I believe the league is a great one! I just think that we all need to refocus on kids not points and things will turn around!

What is respectful about not allowing a team to score? You got the game won why not let them get a TD?

  4. Here's our story and this is what I think all teams should try! We were up 26-0 with 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter! Our head coach then made the call to follow the rules that have been set and with his coaching style made it fun and respectful for all kids involved! Our head coach and Offensive Coordinator let everyone that was under the weight limit run the ball! The kids had a great time rooting for one another and never thought of the score only watching a friend get a chance to be a running back and do their best! Our opponent lit us up and made good plays but our coach held true to his belief and the game ended 32-0! Our opponent was never disrespected, we swapped out kids on defense to let everyone get a chance at a different position and all in all everyone learned from it! At the end of the game our kids and their kids shook hands and I even heard our opponent say great run so and so and our kids told them "man you almost took my head off" no arguing no fighting just mutual respect and both teams played the game of football! I know some of you may say blah blah blah but that's fine! I feel as if it was a constructive game and by moving kids around we were able to see people blossom and now I know who to call in when we need to sub! Then again in the words of reading rainbow " You don't have to take my word for it"

I think that is GREAT, to allow a kid who may never run the ball have that chance to feel good about himself and want to keep working to hopefully run the ball again. Now here is my question did you pull your studs off the defensive side of the ball? The reason I ask you beat a team 32-0 and nothing was said to your coach.  BMT beat LUM White  team i believe 50-16 and there coach  gets thrown out of the league. Explain to me the difference? It sounds like your team kept just enough of your studs in at defense to protect the win for 3 full quarters or you got a stacked team and your 2nd stringers are as good as your 1st team.

  5. It seems that there is a number of STJFL Board members that have a poor working knowledge of the By-Laws. There are 9 out of the 12 teams that have someone setting on the STJFL Board that i would assume has a vote. It is stated in By laws Article V Section I, says each delegate has 1 vote, and if that association has multiple members holding board position they will have a voice, but only the delegate can vote. My question is did the entire board vote regarding the actions taken against the Nederland and BMT West Coaches?Another question i am wondering is according to the last 2 STJFL board meeting notice I have seen it mentions an Ethics committe, where in the by laws does it mention an ethics committee and who will serve on it  and what do they do ? Is it the entire board , half the board, selected members that the President picks and  who chairs the committee? Even on the meeting agenda for Oct 2014 it mentions appeals under the Ethics Committee update, so I wonder what was said? According to By-Laws all regular meetins are subject to open meetings act, so it should be in the minutes and  any STJFL member should be able to request a copy correct?

I guess what my issue is that there are certain members on this board that feel it is THEIR league and they will do what thay want. Those few like to talk about holding coaches and associations accountable, well it is time to start holding them accountable.

  6. I asked Bobcat 101 about Article II section II of the By-laws that says the STJFL will not dicriminate against any players ability. The answer he game me was ask my local STJFL Rep, I have and their take is no matter the kids skill level everyone is allowed to play. So if that is their take then it would seem to me that the entire STJFL board would have that same view.

i am flabbergasted that all the other leagues LCM, WOS , Vidor, BC, West BMT, Nederland are allowing this to happen. All of these issues regarding the punishment towards the BMT and Nederland Coach is directed  by Lum, PNG, and Orangefield.  If I am not correct then show the proof and show were both of these men were allowed to address a full board and explain their side.

Remember BOBCAT101 you made the statement in front of all the coaches the STJFL board is held to a higher standard  and it seems that the way some of you are running this league you have forgotten that you made that statement. We have 2 weeks left and the playoffs start, time will tell how the leaders of each league will handle the election process  come this January. I hope that if those on the STJFL board are really in this for the kids will stepdown and allow some new blood in that can move this league forward.

  7. Nope. He did what he was he was told. Believe it or not, he followed the directions of his board.

The BMT board was the only board to ever address him.

This is what happens when the bylaws don't address punishments. The bylaws also are very open ended and open to interpretation.

The STJFL never stated that the suspension was immediate. Past precedent was followed. Suspensions are handed out on a Tuesday and in the past coaches have finished out the week, which includes the Sat game. Then the suspension starts with practice on Monday.

A simple email to the coach and the Bmt board following the STJFL board meeting would have taken care of all of this.

Well at least you agree the By-Laws are horrible, I thought I was the only one that seen that. And trust me I have spent a number of hours looking at By Laws of leagues all over and the STJFL is by far the most vague I have seen.

  8. Man, LYB, you should definitely have the inside track on that! Lol. Honestly, I hate that those awesome kids had to forfeit their wins. I'm not even saying I agree with it. I'm just saying that much of the blame falls on the coach. No one seems to want to address that he was at fault. Marie at least acknowledged that he was wrong.

It is apparent that the BMT league has their side and the STJFL has theirs, so to say the coach is 100% in the wrong is unfair  for me to judge with out knowing both sides of the story. What I do know is NOBODY that is on the STJFL and surfs this forum seems not to  want and answer the question on how can you violate the By Laws by discriminating against the KIDS based on their ability.

So my question to you is do you think the STJFL is violating their by laws by discriminating against the kids based on their athletic ability?   Also I have heard the spirit of the rule thrown around a number of time, where in the By Laws and even the Mercy Rule does it even talk about the Spirit of the rule. Maybe you can answer that because it is apparent now one else will.

  9. Ever consider Westend Beaumont Board Of directors knew certain facts that they didn't follow.

Actions of All adults affect kids.

Actions of All adults affect kids is the quote you as a board member are using, so i will take this and run with it.

    1. Ok you got your guy that part is over with, please explain to me why take the win from the kids? All you have done is poisioned the playoffs by giving wins to teams that were not prepared by their coach. This goes for both the Junior and Senior Level.

    2. In your By Laws there is a few words in Article II  Section II, that states the STJFL will not descriminate against a players ability. By punishing these kids for all the hard work they have done you are doing just that.

    3. What is your take that on 50+ different times the STJFL has had teams not even score a single point in a game? To make is even more simple everyone sees what the STJFL does to a team that works hard, what are you as a board member doing to help with that?

You got on this public forum and made the statement  "Actions of all adults affect kids" so please explain your actions because according to By Laws I am a member of the STJFL and  should have a right to ask these questions. I predict you will hide behind some lamb excuse to blame the coach, I know he was in the wrong and this is not about the coach it is about the KIDS. Thanks for taking the time to answer these 3 simple questions.

  10. I Don't think them losing their head coach will have any effect on the outcome of this one! A well coached team at this age can pretty much run themselves when the situation calls for it! It's gonna be weird now that all the smack has stopped!

Ice Tea you hit it with that statement, from what I have seen those BMT kids can run their own show and still light up the score board.

  11. nedw-34

    nedb -22

    LCM-12

    wos-18

    lumw-8

    pngp-12

    bmtb-18

Marie I think it is png you are referring to not port Arthur

PNG-Port Arthur it is all the same, just like South Vidor and Orangefield, your picks look good though. I do not know teams well enough to supply the point spread. I will leave it to the bookies

BMT-- Port Arthur W           Game of the week,   got to go with BMT just based on overall talent at all positions.

  13. Why does that not surprise me that you would blame the board for an injured player?  Honestly, I could go into personal responsibility and looking in a mirror, but both of those would be strangers to folks like you.

I do wish the injured player a 100% speedy recovery.

Take your own advice as well, keep it on the thread or start a new one .... BAM

  14. So to see what all the hype was about, I went and watched the BMT Sr and Lum Blue game. From the start it seemed that BMT was kinda going through the motions. The last play of the 1st half saw BMT run the ball on what looked like a off tackle play towards Lumberton side and then cut back towards the BMT side and scored a TD with time running out. I believe the score was 21-0 and on the opening kick off BMT kicked it on side and recovered from what I can remember. After that it was pretty much BMT could do whatever they wanted and they did. While watching the game I was trying to figure out what the BMT coaches are doing to make themselves the center of attention. I never saw them scream at a kid , when a kid missed a assignement they corrected him, and when a kid did hid job they gave him high fives. What I did see was missed tackles by lumberton, poor blocking, and poor kick off return. The Lumberton team stayed in and battled against the 2nd/3rd team of BMT and did score twice, I guess they considered that a small victory in itself. I did see a cop at this game for some reason ( i guess the STJFL figured the Lumerton fans needed protection), I also saw at least 10 different people recording this game, plus at halftime a lady from Lumberton left the lumberton side and came to the BMT side to record the second half of the game. The only problem was she had it on the coaches and BMT bench then entire 2nd half. So I can see why these BMT coaches are upset, they are doing what every other dad is out there doing and for some reason because they have a special group of kids someone wants them gone. I will ask this 1 question why is there a mercy rule at the SR level? The reason I ask is most of these  kids will hit Jr High next year were there is no mercy rule nor a daddy coaching them.So why not get them ready for that next level of football.

  15. Some Big Games this week...

PNG Purple vs PNG Grey ( Battle of PNG )

Lumberton White vs. Vidor Black ( Vidor Black loss 2 of their top players last week to injuries ) Prayers our with those little guys

    Nederland Gold vs. Beaumont Blue

    Lumberton Red vs. Beaumont Warriors

BC vs LCM (Couple of PNG Boys have taken over the coaching responsibilities for BC)

I believe one of the kids from Vidor will have surgery today .

  16. I have looked everywhere I could within the STJFL rules/ by-laws and cannot find anything stating you must remove a WR once the Mercy Rule is in effect. So where is the violation? I also wonder how you come up with   disciplinary action  on a  coach without having a policy that is in black-n-white for all to see. The only thing within the by-laws are  about coaches who will face disciplinary action if they  are ejected from a game.

Mercy Rule - Score - If the score reaches a point difference of 28 points the team in the lead must remove the entire starting backfield (quarterback, and all starting running backs) until the margin becomes less than 28 points. Also, when the score is 28 or more, the team that is behind has an option to receive a kickoff or forego the kick and take the ball on their own 40 yard line. The STJFL board shall review a coach failing to adhere to this policy within (6) calendar days of the incident. If a coach is found in violation of the above rule, they will subject to disciplinary action determined by the STJFL board up to and including suspension, forfeiture or both.

  17. You know Marie, my example about Seal is not Dumb because that is a personal experience that i had when a was a youth getting beat in Area Playoffs every year while i was in H.S.  No body protested the Sealy coach and said they are to good and life is not fair.  We work hard to try to get better and we came up short every year.  Its called life.  Lumberton started all of this and it is sad.  If you have to pull game tape and sharpen your pencil and go through each play and say number 99 he not suppose to be there, its sad, very sad, and I'm very disappointed.

Finally you see what I am seeing it is LUMBERTON and who is STJFL President? That is why this  guy has to step down, this could have been fixed after last year because it was bound to happen again. Except this year not only in SR did  it happened , it also happened in Jr and the LUMBERTON base has started the file on the Ned W coach. So next year when all those kids move up and he is coaching what you think will happen when he beats Lumberton/ Port Arthur  like a drum?  i also see your point about Sealy and understand so I retract my statement, see that is what adults do admit when they are wrong and move on.

  18. Marie good coaches are hard to find.  Texas football all divisions its tough.  Programs are hard to put into place.  I give all coaches that volunteer good or bad my 100% support.  My kids have been on both sides of the ball, its ok, we just have to keep kids pointed north and get better.  Not scoring is part of the game.  Sealy, Texas won i think 5 state champ in a row in 3a High School football.  It sucked to be in there district.

I understand that not scoring is part of the game, but at this level it would seem to me if I where the Coach Rep and saw weekend after weekend that 11 teams on average cannot even get 1 single TD something has to be wrong. Your reference to Sealy is dumb ,  but just so you know they are referred to as TITLE TOWN. However let's say BMT since they are the ones getting singled out based on 2 10 yr old kids that are playing up. BMT did develop their kids starting at the Flag level  and keep those teams/ coaches together as they progressed thru the league. I  can tell you this much with the 2 BMT Sr coaches working with these kids the STJFL Board would want to ban the entire BMT organization. So how about this for a bright idea have a board that are not coaches, if you look at the board i believe everyone of them are a coach other than the lady from BMT. I am sure there are a number of qualified dad/moms that can set on the board. While we are on the subject of the board and you may know the answer or you may not why on the STJFL web site there is nothing about the monthly board meetings? I would love to attend a meeting, seems like the board would want as much parent involvment as possible.

  19. I agree 100% for a dad or mom to donate their time to spend with their son or daughter is great. Teaching kids the fundamentals and to learn to love the game is what is most important. But my statement is how after 4 weeks do we have so many teams not score in a game. I know there are a lot of good guys out there doing their best , but for the league to spend so much time and effort reviewing games and suspending coaches for taking the extra effort to learn or work with their kids to me seems crazy. Instead of lowering ones expectations how about we set EGOS aside and if you need some advice from a Veteran coach ask for it. Not all these guys are bad I know for a fact there are a number that would help someone. And I know some guys can not afford or take a trip to a free clinic but I am sure if they reached out to those that do they would share what they learned. I would think Hawk05 would, so again I agree with you and maybe the label WEAK was to harsh so I will retract that .
  20. I agree mostly what you posted.  Why protest?  It you have to pic apart game tape on the other team, spend that time making your organization better instead worry about other teams.  I'm not a coach, board member, Im just a parent on the outside.  In all sports that we play, we don't worry about team x and what they do.  If we lose, I look at my son and say we need to get better.  I will throw baseballs to my son till i can't do it anymore.  I don't say hey the pitcher is too good and we need to get is coach thrown out of the organization.

    Its all about the kids.

I also agree with what you say, however do you realize there are 44 teams going into week 5 that have played a game and been shutout. Some of them more than once, so the question i have is, what are  the board and local associations doing about these WEAK COACHES ? Because you would think the time and effort would be even greater  to get these guys better educated so that we will not see so many GOOSE Eggs on the score board. So just  going on averages there are 11 teams will not score this weekend.  I am sure the guy from port arthur (lamar1996) and the want to be coach ( whisperer) will have something classic to say.
