C.E. King at Crosby Game Thread/Crosby wins 24-0!
COOG8BRONCO replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
You're right, they might show us how to score. KP only managed 294 yards of total offense, gave up 187 on D and scored 29 pts. Crosby held them to 100 total yards with the backups in the last quarter and half.Crosby could have easily scored 63 or 70 pts on New Caney. King had the second best combination of size and athleticism I've seen since SC, plus they had a great scheme with the kids to pull it off. You can really tell those are the two biggest schools in the district. Very physical game and some of King kids started scrapping towards the end, but I guess they didn't realize we have hay meadows and hoods over here. Bold prediction. . . . If KP doesn't score on Crosby they could end the season with 5 consecutive shutouts. . . . . Now feel free to ream me. -
HS Kicker Kicks 67-Yard Field Goal
COOG8BRONCO replied to PN-G bamatex's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Nothing to knock what the kid did 'cause it's an awesome kick, but y'all see what I was talking about on Carranco's thread? If you look while they're celebrating the kicker has a black tee in his hand. If we got to still kick off tees in Texas you could put 10 yards on Carranco's range. Still have to put through the uprights but definitely the best prep kick I've ever seen. Another point I was making is you see the kid banging 67 yarders and all he has is a partial scholarship offer from an FCS school. -
King got some more kids when they had to combine Smiley and Forest Brook. You would think they should be better, but I guess that's why Price doesn't coach at BH anymore.

What 3 teams are you talking about.
New Caney
Porter is the only team out right now. If Crosby beats King tonight that would give them 4 district losses and they would be out on tie-breakers. Humble needs to beat SC or they're out with 4 district losses and no way to tie-break. The questionable one is KP and NC. If KP losses tonight they would have 4 district losses and could finish no better than 4th but would need a win over Crosby and a Crosby loss to Humble or Porter. So basically it depends on KP tonight to see if BH gets in. If KP wins then BH has to wait 'til next Thursday for the KP vs Crosby game to get it.
How does bh secure a playoff spot tonight. If kp wins out which I dont think they will and bh losses to dayton and sc. Wont that give kp crosby and bh all 3 losses.
That's why I said if ALL three win. KP would have 4 district losses, the most BH could finish with is three.

BH should finish the season with at least one more district loss which puts them in a tie with us at 6-2 in 19-4a. We have a head to head win this year which gives us the tie-breaker. I just hate the fact that if SC, Dayton and Crosby win tonight Barbers Hill secures a playoff spot by sitting at home.
If K Park can come up with a defensive scheme to minimize the twins productivity this will be a very good ballgame. I think k park will be able to run the football against Crosby.
The best thing Crosby does on D is stop the run, giving up about 150 on the ground but BH skews the stats 'cause they don't try to pass. The best thing Crosby does on O is run it, averaging over 250 yards a game on the ground. We do have those "WTF?" losses though, like the one to Lee where we were up 10 pts with 3 mins. left in the game and lost costing us a district championship last year. All that being said, when we play KP it should be the last win we need to get into the playoffs and I'm sure Riordan will relay that to the kids. Expect this one to be ugly, 45-17 Crosby

Big D1 programs don't offer a lot of scholarships to kickers, they usually invite them and a couple other kickers to fall camp and whoever wins the job they put on scholarship which is why you see a lot a transfer kickers. Best kicker in the state last year was a kid from Argyle and he doesn't even have any offers yet. Just hope Crosby's little Juan end up as good as Dayton's.
good post.... kickers get treated a lot differently than other top prospects.
Why is that?
Because there are too many variables that go into kicking. Do you take the kid that was super accurate but doesn't have the strongest leg, or the kid that can stroke it from 60 but has a little lower connect percentage. In Texas we kick off the ground but not all states do, is the kid going to be able to transition? Does he play in the south where he's kicking a warmer, softer ball that carries or the north where he's kicking a rock half the season? Is he kicking of a natural surface or pristine field turf? What's his trajectory like, can he kick over 6'6" guys with their arms outstretched? Probably the most important is if he can kick under pressure? When they invite you to fall camp you go through a long competition, basically you are out there daily in front of over 100 players, coaches and media trying to earn your keep. I went to a school that was known for its kickers, the most notable being Adam Vinitieri, and believe it or not he wasn't even offered a scholarship. These questions are even more pertinent now due to the new NCAA scholarship rules. When I went to college scholarships were basically a one year renewable contract, meaning you did/didn't sign your scholarship every year. Now they went back to being able to offer 4 year scholarships which means if you get a kicker you thought was good in high school but gets on campus and can't cut it your stuck with him for 4 years, making them even more leery. This happens often with position players too but they usually earn their keep on special teams and letter that way. The determining factor for most schools now isn't how well you do on Friday nights, but how well you do in the summer on the camp circuit. -

When i saw crosby play this year i thought they were gonna be pretty good, and man was i wrong. We eat y'all 45-21. I think vidor would beat y'all 35-14 if they let y'all score twice. But i could be wrong they might let y'all score a lil more.
Like I said, Crosby has to play cleaner. Cut out the penalties and turnovers. It was very easy to move the ball on Dayton, just kept shooting ourselves in the foot. Dayton threw for 289 on Crosby. 96 yards of it came on a 3rd and 35 despiration heave from the back of the endzone. I don't think Crosby thought Dayton could throw the ball, we found out they could even if it was only for one game. Both of the twins ran for 125+ and Crosby threw for over 200 yards. Dayton seems to have Crosby's number head to head but usually seems to end up with similiar district records. Dayton hit Crosby on two long bombs that totaled about 150 yards on the same kid. Hopefully we can get him out of there for somebody more competent, a new kid got a lot of playing time last game but not sure 'cause the score or just an opportunity. Without those bombs Crosby could've kept running it and easily rushed for 350+ yards which would've changed the dynamic of the game. We did get hit deep those two times though so those coulda woulda's are a wash. Would like to do it again with a revamped D though. -

I hope Crosby does get Vidor, its only a very slight chance it could happen but I feel confident we would soundly beat Vidor. Crosby just came in underestimating Vidor plus it was a home game for y'all on a Thursday night. We get to match it up again, you can expect 100 yards added to that total from last year. Aston is starting to get a grip on the new offense and we have two dangerous receivers. Crosby didn't adjust and allowed Vidor to run up the middle to the tune of 4 ypc which shortened the game and kept the ball out of Crosby's hands. Surely didn't have the athelets to stay with Crosby in the open field, just a better coaching philosophy. We have a new one of those though so we'll see what happens come November. . . . -

Singleton and Walter (#17) are 3-4 in the district in receiving and Crosby is averaging over 460 ypg. Don't get caught up in the 3-3. And by the way BH would roll Livingston 45-20. This is not what we have come to expect from our teams. As I said before, we dont unrealistically expect to be in the state championship game every year. But, what we do expect is to at least compete. Thus far, we have been outscored 153-188, in starting the season 2-4. That is totally unacceptable. We expect better than this from our WB teams.
How many games has WB won the last two years? I saw one WB fan say "he (Flannigan) can't make the playoffs with Stump's players". Did Stump make the playoffs last year with his players? You're in a district with NS, LP, DP, and PAM. Besides La Porte, which one of those teams is WB consistently better than or have more talent than. Maybe La Porte but they have the #1 recruit in the state for the 2014 class, maybe DP but they're just extremely well coached and have over 1000 more kids than WB. Give the man time, it's not like y'all were expecting to make the playoffs this year anyway right?
Yes. We were. We expect to make the playoffs every year. That's the goal.
That's a great goal, but when you have the 5th most talent in the district and finish 5th I would say that's an average coaching job. Y'all had some playoff wins but were still average with Stump. WB used to pump kids into D1 programs, now the only have 2 kids with more than one D1 offer (should have 3 by the end of the season). Y'all lost to small, 4a Ozen. A game which I should be able to call plays and win, it's not all coaching man. The 5a school up the street has less kids and twice the talent, I would start looking there first.
Would you like to make a wager on that?
3-1 I guess you mean. Which 19-4a team loses? Are you picking Livingston, Ozen or Central over Crosby? I know we have three losses but they have been to the average of the #10 team in the state, which all will be playing D1 by the way. I think we would beat Ned if we played them again. Riordan told Aston not to run that game (Willis too) and it was the very first game with a new coach and playcalling. Barring injuries or turnovers, Crosby is giong to roll up 450+ yards along with 30+ points on every other team this season. . . . . win or lose
You aren't really considering taking any kind of wagers on this are you? remember what happened last time you did that. You had to change your name...
Crosby got the 450+ yards on Dayton and SC. Too many turnovers and penalties in both and came up short on the 30+. Those should be the two best defenses we play until a Brenham, Texas City, or Terry. . . I didn't switch my name either girl. -

Would suck to get constantly hold out at your own place.
New Caney already has a beautiful stadium and accomidations. Are both high schools in NCISD giong to have their own stadium?
