I'm so glad there wasn't a message board when I was in HS! If my mother had written anything on this board about my play or lack-there-of, or had criticized my coach - I would've been so embarrassed...
The amount of helicopter moms on this site is turning my stomach.
Wow. Ndn mom never said she was talking about HER kid. Perhaps she's just observant and has opinions about football just like all the rest on here.
I think she makes a valid point. I don't think having a kid that throws 3 interceptions per JV game is the answer for us at backup.

Best of luck to the Mustangs!!

Best of luck tonight, Indians!

Winner of tomorrow's game can claim a district co- championship even though they both lost to Nederland. UIL only recognizes record for district titles but uses head-to-head to determine seeding.
Gotcha! Thanks for clearing that up for me! -
Part of the district championship
I assumed people were referring to playoffs. Oops. District champion wouldn't be decided by head to head? -
Can someone explain why tomorrow's game "matters now"? I'm a little confused. If GCM wins next week they go big school and Ned drops. Ned would be 1st seed, PNG 2nd. But PNG playing Central does not affect that. If Ozen wins next week, Ned stays big school and PNG would be 1st seed in small school. Is there another scenario I'm missing or other factors I've overlooked?

yes. this^
I'm going with 48-7, Ned.
Dang. I was pretty close on this one. (I'm never good at this) -
Baytown will not put 14 on Neds Defense and you will have 38 by halftime. Good game to rest the starters early and recover from any injuries.

Congrats to Lumberton on the win!

They?? Dont you mean We? Concerned is a PNG fan.
I think she meant "they" as in, all the people who want to gripe about uniforms (regardless of team affiliation). I could care less what my Indians wear. Put them in a safe helmet and burlap sack and I'll still go watch them play Indian football!
-
If the Indians would have worn gray back then, why is it just coming up now? There are players around from back then. The whole point is tradition! People FROM Port Neches-Groves know and love their tradition.
I commented about the "uniform" situation because it has been brought up by both Nederland and PN-G alike. There is nothing to comment about the game. We were out played. Nederland did an excellent job and deserves the win. They worked hard out on that field for that trophy.
The remaining history was not quoted because it discusses nothing about color change. The history of the school comes from PN-G ISD itself.
And don't talk to me about "PN-G fans." Our entire family has been living and attending school in Port Neches for over 85 years.
Then surely one of them can confirm or deny the wearing of the grey pants??
It's just coming up now because we have a coach who had an opportunity to purchase alternate uniforms and thought it would be a nice tribute to the first PNG team to win the state championship. The end. They're brand new pants and helmets. I can't imagine them throwing them out any time soon, so we better get use to them!
I wonder if Lumberton is catching this much flak for their grey uniforms too???

What's with all the talk about the uniforms? Is it that hard to come out and say "Wow! That was a great game!". For those griping about the "lack of purple", you wouldn't have seen it anyway. We were the "away" team, meaning we would have been in the all white uniforms (my personal favorite) had we not been in grey pants and helmets. The kids love the throwback look. I prefer it with the purple jerseys (but to each his own).
And please, keep telling the PNG fans they have no idea about their school history. I'm sure that's going to go over well. Concernedfortx, notice the little bit of history you posted goes up to year 1944? We're talking about the year 1953. And I doubt any common search of PNG history is going to say "1953: The Indians wore grey pants". It's not a very significant fact (the band stuff is noted, I'm sure, to highlight the impact the war had on the school). Check out the Glory Trails video, around 13 mins starts the 1950's. At 13:16 there's a good shot of the players in their uniforms. Pants aren't dark enough to be purple, and the shirts are very obviously white and much lighter than the pants. That leads me to believe that, yes, indeed, the pants were grey! ::gasp::
Does anyone have a color photo of the 1953 State Champs so we can put this to bed?

What happened when the whole PNG line false started, the ref calls unsportsmanlike on Ned, marks off a 5 yard penalty, then makes it 15, then makes it 5 again?
I don't know, but I was having flashbacks to the game against WOS. 😳 -
Oh. And about the student section... In all honesty I didn't look at ours, but I came *this close* to taking a pic of the mess on the Nederland side. (Mostly just because someone was griping a few days ago about cleaning up baby powder). There was stuff EVERYWHERE in the stands and on the track! It's all in good fun. I'm sure the kids all had a blast. And it's got to be better than the rumored syrup on the bleaches that Ned students were supposedly going to do (I hope that didn't really happen)
-
Wow!!! The only thing that could have made that game better would be a "W" for the Indians. I hate it for those who had to miss it. That first half was definitely off. We didn't even look like the same team. The second half was what I expected from both sides completely. I knew it'd come down to a TD or less, I was just wrong about who would be on top. A very well deserved congrats to the bulldogs. What a GAME!!

It was real nice of Ned to relocate the student section of the visitors side AWAY from the band. ::sarcastic tone::

I FINALLY sat down to watch this video (kind of long) last night before bed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1uq-29vijs I thought it was neat to hear about a lot of the history, and I loved how it emphasized the rivalry. It's a pretty good video if you haven't already seen it and you have the time to watch it.
I can't wait for tonight! I think it's going to be an all out battle! The Indian starters haven't had to play a full game since WOS. Sure we've been winning big, but not against quality opponents. And Nederland seems to be finding their game (they ALWAYS do come district play). The Indians have what it takes to win this game, now they just have to do it! I'm looking for a close game, but I think the Indians take it.
Who else thinks this is going to be the longest day of the week??? Is it 7:00 yet??
-
WOS has turf? I don't remember.
No. They have grass. One of the reasons Faircloth wanted to play there. -
No loud recordings for the indians tonight.
Recordings?

1-3 (seasons 02-05). All scores were within 7 pts except for the win. My senior year we played Nederland at a neutral site (around Baytown, I believe). Not even a hurricane can stop the madness!

Yeah I've been to many games this year for PNG. The kicker can kick, but they seem to have a huge problem with blocking. I've seen more blocked kicks than I ever care to see.
Yes. It's definitely not the kicker's accuracy. I hope the line has cleaned up this problem.

I'm loving this. Some of these are hilarious!
