  1. You guys are right.  My belief is that we (locally) should be further along than we are.  Let's face it, unless you've played the game or are a parent of one who does, most folks don't think soccer is even a sport, especially here.  My kid shouldn't have to go to Houston to find competition.  Coaches/schools need to look ahead, prepare for the future.  Someday your child may want to play at a high level, and by that time gas will be $7.00 bucks a gallon.  No easy answers here.........just my opinion.

  2. What a shame kids have to travel so far to compete.  Isn't that what you tried to do while you coached the Elite group?  Get them to compete at the highest level in the Houston area.  Since wins came few and far between, not many folks were happy.  Your message was always the same.  If you want to play against the best, this (Houston) is where we need to be.  I guess playing with versus against the best

  3. First let me say fine job to those who made the district teams.  Much grinding of teeth is expected this time of year.  There are those believe they should have received the honor, both kid and parent.  I'm sure there are some valid arguments.  It reminds me of picking allstars in little league.  There were some fine athletes who were left behind.  Only difference is back then, dads were picking, politics ruled the day  :'(.  Many a deserving kid didn't make it.  Like coach said, its a tough time of year.  I have to believe that coaches at the high school level see through all the bull crap and overbearing parents.  They see the kid who maybe doesn't get the "press" during the year, but day in and day out they have the other quailties that make up an "all star".  The kid who is respectful, who does what the coaches ask and doesn't talk back, gives everything they have and understands that team comes before any individual achievment.  Its the goalie who has an amazing turnaround during the year, its the smaller kid who ties up giants until they make a mistake.  Accolades to the coaches for seeing and recognizing these efforts.  Again, from the outside looking in, there were some who should have made 1st team instead of 2nd.  The only question is, does that mean that someone on the 1st team should have been bumped?  I'd like to think not.

  4. Looks like Nederland found a way to finally get the ball into the net!  And what a fine assit and goal it was.  A shut out for the "D" and a win against a team that has talent but just plays a little too rough.  If they focused less on knocking somebody the h e l l over and more on playing the game as a team..........you get the picture.

I really thought #10 had some great foot skills.  Only problem was too much "me" and not enough "us".  Plus there was a moment when one of his teammates pased him the ball and the ball didn't make it to #10.  Instead of him going after the ball, he just quit.  All I needed to see...........

Congrats. to Nederland and "keep the faith".

  5. RDR.......Lumbertown young men played a good game.  Game over, time for you to move on.  The last thing I'll say on the matter is this.....Can you win in the playoffs?  Show me the money.  Can anybody win in the playoffs from around here?  It's about time we get a club team with talent from our district.  Only then could we compete @ the next level.  Until then, really no reason to be upset.  What a great game football is........... :)

  6. Whenever Nederland learns how to put the ball in the net, they'll be fine.  Even though the bad guys won this one, you must admit it's fun to see a local team with some skills.  Too often that's not the case in district play.  Matter of fact, sometimes it's downright sad the quality of teams that show up.  I say all this and do not mean to downgrade the effort the young men who do love the game.  Something is missing with the black and gold.................I sure hope coach figures it out.

  7. Hey Soccer is life.........I think you misunderstood my post.  My initial congrats were to the Keeper of Nederland and a "job well done" by the Nederland defensive unit.  In no way does the fact that more shots occurred from the box indicate that the defense is to blame.  Everyone must return and defend.  No one has had to "carry" this group as they do a fine job.  I only wanted to pass my own appreciation of what it means to be a defender whether its from Nederland or LCM.

  8. No doubt the Keep had an awesome game.  However, did anyone else notice the excellet defense on display?  The Keep hardly ever is the only reason why a team is held to zero.  Of course its a lot easier to recognize the scorer of goals than to keep the ball out of the net.  Way to go Keeper and "the other 3" :) - By the way, even though the Nederlanders did not have their best touch on the ball in this game credit the (get this) LCM defenders on a great display too.
