  1. Give me Nederland vs Lumberton -> alignment stinks without these two getting it on ;D
  2. The drums are killing me. Talk about relentless
  3. Dogs moved the ball around well tonight. It will be a freak event for any team in district to score against this "D" and goalie. There are moments when this team looks simply brilliant!
  4. Congrats shark. Those young men are fortunate to have you. Ought to be a great one Tuesday night!
  5. Thanks (coach) for taking the time to explain why we play when we do. Never knew that........Who makes those kinds of decisions and do the soccer coaches/athletic directors/parents have a say? I'll bet its harder to make a change in this regard than to crap in a swinging jug.
  6. Nederland dominated Lumbertown. I know they both played in the same conditions so give in to our friends from the north. However, come PNG tournament time on a decent playing surface, I'll take the dogs 3-0 over the Raiders.
  7. If the local media took more interest in these kids as they do in football and basketball...........not just anybody can sit in the stands with great s/e texas winter weather. It takes a real fan to brave this funk. Only a parent or coach would understand...............I'm pretty well convinced the local media will never "get it".
  8. What are the chances? Stupid american football...........yea, like that darn stadium will be full on Saturday afternoons. Love football........but why not soccer at Lamar?
  9. Can't say a whole lot about this young man other than he will be a freshman @ Nederland this coming year. Oh, one more thing, he's pretty darn good in the net. Plays for Curtis Williams.
  10. I can still hear Wayne Dial from the press box saying " And its Troy Summerall on a 99 yard scamper". Simply the best damn run I ever saw. And to think I took vacation that night..............
  11. I like it Shark! That is what we need..........Ideas from people who know how this thing is supposed to operate. A different bowl name though....Something that captures the great sport of soccer
  12. Has anyone heard or does anyone know of a Westbrook team that is forming for kids who aren't making the trips to Houston and still want to play some competitive soccer at the high school level? ???
  13. You guys are right. My belief is that we (locally) should be further along than we are. Let's face it, unless you've played the game or are a parent of one who does, most folks don't think soccer is even a sport, especially here. My kid shouldn't have to go to Houston to find competition. Coaches/schools need to look ahead, prepare for the future. Someday your child may want to play at a high level, and by that time gas will be $7.00 bucks a gallon. No easy answers here.........just my opinion.
  14. Sorry for the abrupt end to the post. Nothing left to say except "enjoyed it while it lasted."
  15. What a shame kids have to travel so far to compete. Isn't that what you tried to do while you coached the Elite group? Get them to compete at the highest level in the Houston area. Since wins came few and far between, not many folks were happy. Your message was always the same. If you want to play against the best, this (Houston) is where we need to be. I guess playing with versus against the best
  16. First let me say fine job to those who made the district teams. Much grinding of teeth is expected this time of year. There are those believe they should have received the honor, both kid and parent. I'm sure there are some valid arguments. It reminds me of picking allstars in little league. There were some fine athletes who were left behind. Only difference is back then, dads were picking, politics ruled the day :'(. Many a deserving kid didn't make it. Like coach said, its a tough time of year. I have to believe that coaches at the high school level see through all the bull crap and overbearing parents. They see the kid who maybe doesn't get the "press" during the year, but day in and day out they have the other quailties that make up an "all star". The kid who is respectful, who does what the coaches ask and doesn't talk back, gives everything they have and understands that team comes before any individual achievment. Its the goalie who has an amazing turnaround during the year, its the smaller kid who ties up giants until they make a mistake. Accolades to the coaches for seeing and recognizing these efforts. Again, from the outside looking in, there were some who should have made 1st team instead of 2nd. The only question is, does that mean that someone on the 1st team should have been bumped? I'd like to think not.
  17. Just when you think you're really pretty good.............There is so much talent out there that to make it to the big time is amazing. That is the way it felt when we played you.
  18. Looks like Nederland found a way to finally get the ball into the net! And what a fine assit and goal it was. A shut out for the "D" and a win against a team that has talent but just plays a little too rough. If they focused less on knocking somebody the h e l l over and more on playing the game as a team..........you get the picture. I really thought #10 had some great foot skills. Only problem was too much "me" and not enough "us". Plus there was a moment when one of his teammates pased him the ball and the ball didn't make it to #10. Instead of him going after the ball, he just quit. All I needed to see........... Congrats. to Nederland and "keep the faith".
  19. RDR.......Lumbertown young men played a good game. Game over, time for you to move on. The last thing I'll say on the matter is this.....Can you win in the playoffs? Show me the money. Can anybody win in the playoffs from around here? It's about time we get a club team with talent from our district. Only then could we compete @ the next level. Until then, really no reason to be upset. What a great game football is...........
  20. Coach RB has been nothing but class. A tribute to the school and to the young men who play for him. We still need to find a way to get that damn ball in the net. I have faith you will find a solution.
  21. Whenever Nederland learns how to put the ball in the net, they'll be fine. Even though the bad guys won this one, you must admit it's fun to see a local team with some skills. Too often that's not the case in district play. Matter of fact, sometimes it's downright sad the quality of teams that show up. I say all this and do not mean to downgrade the effort the young men who do love the game. Something is missing with the black and gold.................I sure hope coach figures it out.
  22. Hey Soccer is life.........I think you misunderstood my post. My initial congrats were to the Keeper of Nederland and a "job well done" by the Nederland defensive unit. In no way does the fact that more shots occurred from the box indicate that the defense is to blame. Everyone must return and defend. No one has had to "carry" this group as they do a fine job. I only wanted to pass my own appreciation of what it means to be a defender whether its from Nederland or LCM.
  23. No doubt the Keep had an awesome game. However, did anyone else notice the excellet defense on display? The Keep hardly ever is the only reason why a team is held to zero. Of course its a lot easier to recognize the scorer of goals than to keep the ball out of the net. Way to go Keeper and "the other 3" - By the way, even though the Nederlanders did not have their best touch on the ball in this game credit the (get this) LCM defenders on a great display too.
