Blessings are where we look for them. I definitely understand the challenges. I also understand the simple joys. I’ve always thought that things don’t happen TO us. They happen FOR us. You sound like a good man. A blessing indeed. -
I'll pass. Although, I never watched anyway. But, I sure wouldn't give him the satisfaction now. I can read about it Wednesday without propping up his ratings.

True. Still, if he were to be cancelled, I’d prefer it be the old-fashioned way. Can the show because it stinks. Although, I do very much like the idea of local affiliates taking over the power of choice in programming.

A lot of people will tune in just to see what he has to say about this episode.

First District game for both squads. Friendswood comes in at 2-1 and averaging almost 37 ppg while only giving up 16 ppg. After losing their first game against Fort Bend Marshall, they've reeled off two very impressive wins over Willowridge and Galveston Ball. Friendswood is ranked #9 in GHA by Vype. La Porte also comes in at 2-1 after a tough loss to an excellent PN-G squad at home for their first loss at Bulldog. La Porte is averaging 30 ppg while giving up 31 ppg. The Bulldogs are ranked #4 in GHA by Vype. Both teams are expected to compete for a PO spot out of 11-5A D1, and this game could have seeding implications right out of the gate. Friendswood always plays LP tough. This game should be no different. Who do you have taking this matchup?

This was posted on Smoaky an hour before it was posted here. Didn’t have any bites over there. Must have thought there would be better luck over here. Some of y’all obliged.

The truth of the matter is, most people only want free speech when it agrees with their own thoughts and ideas.

Roma Downey, Dean Cain, Kirk Cameron, Dennis Quade, and Kevin Sorbo have actually done well bucking the trend. Of course, you can’t go without mentioning Clint Eastwood. Personally, I like all of the roles they play and/or movies & shows they produce. I think I heard Dean Cain is a police officer now & signed up for ICE recently.

My understanding is that he hasn’t been technically ‘fired.’ They may still be paying him as an employee, and just stopped producing & broadcasting the show. Not quite clear on that part yet. Haven’t paid attention to any of the late night shows since Leno left, and haven’t watched SNL in decades. None of them were funny any more.

The Modern Legal Standard for Unprotected Speech The “clear and present danger” test was replaced by a more rigorous standard in the 1969 Supreme Court case Brandenburg v. Ohio. This case established the current legal framework for when inflammatory speech loses First Amendment protection. The Brandenburg test is a two-pronged analysis: the speech must be “directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action,” and it must be “likely to incite or produce such action.” [Hidden Content] The issues surrounding free speech haven’t been addressed since this case. The internet & social media has complicated this issue as ‘imminent & likely’ are not known since what’s on the interwebs lives on indefinitely, and can incite an ‘immediate reaction’ at any time. Of course, most employees are ‘at will’ and can be fired for any reason unless there’s another personal contract or service contract involved where other conditions have to be met.

7 is the talented soph. I’d prefer he get the next start. I think he’s mature enough. He was field aware enough to throw the ball away when y’all applied some pressure & he couldn’t escape. That hasn’t been the case with 8, and TO’s or big losses have occurred that LP can’t afford with their O system. I think it’s time to see what he can do for more than just a series, or when LP gets behind. If opposing D’s truly have to worry about a passing/scrambling threat, Simon and Ruffin would be a very hard stop. Moreso than they are now, and the young man can definitely throw the ball. That would help take a load off of a young secondary that’s still finding their way.

I'm actually glad. Like I said earlier, the season--including preseason--has been a madhouse with all the press for the stadium, expectations for the team, etc. I'm hoping now that some of that has passed, they can get back to concentrating on football. They've played a heck of a schedule and come out 2-1 vs. 0-3 last year. They need this off week to clean up some play, rework on some fundamentals, and get refocused. Maybe make a couple personnel adjustments. But, they'll be fine. A LOT of talent on this team. Losses can be humbling. I did see the DCTF computer generated poll of all 1500 teams still had LP at 13 in 5AD1. Vype has LP at 4 now. Angleton & LP just flipped. Angleton is now 3. Vype doesn't separate D1 & D2 in 5A. So, Randle is 1, Iowa Colony is 2, Angleton 3, La Porte 4, Kempner & Friendswood even made it into the rankings at 8 & 10 respectively. PN-G--this year--is a much more complete team IMHO than last year. Bailey has really come into his own, and the D is much improved from last year. I have little doubt we'll see another SOC/PN-G tilt this year. Simon still did well (146 & 2 TD's), and could have had more. But, LP was passing more in the catch-up game. The up & coming QB looked good. That would be a personnel change I would go ahead and make knowing you have the experience to come back in if necessary. He adds a different dynamic, and an escapability/scramble threat.

In both LP games, they had TO’s on the first drive inside the opponent red zone, or end zone. I’m more concerned about the D giving up an average of ~30 ppg with very poor tackling.

Angleton and Friendswood keep rolling. Both teams are putting up solid offensive numbers. La Porte fell to a very tough PN-G team at home. Crosby held tough with Fort Bend Marshall in a very competitive game, and Kempner blanked Houston Wisdom for their second shut-out of the year. Kingwood Park put up good numbers again after their loss to Dayton last week, and the Cardinals got the better of the Eagles in the match up of the birds. Now, the preliminaries are over. Everyone gets a blank slate to begin the real season and district play after an off week this week for the district. We'll see what adjustments will be made and what has been learned as we head into district play.

Looks like he put something in a ledge/gutter with one hand, climbed on edge of ledge, dropped whatever it was, jumped down, and then retrieved and ran. Since the authorities found the rifle in the woods, I’d make the assumption that was it. I said it wasn’t in his pants leg first thing.

They’ve been alternating in Wells (soph QB) at least one drive per game. IMHO, he is the more athletic with the better arm. Saenz is the 3 year starter. Wells played the last quarter or so of the game. I think I heard he was 14/17/100+ & TD. He had a drop in the end zone & the TE dropped one also before the penalty that set them back to 4th & 25 I think when they still had time enough to close it to one score with time left. Like a couple of Bailey’s, the ball hit them right in the hands. I hear the two QB’s help each other and work together well with no jealousy. So, I’m just thinking it may be good to start Wells once and see how it goes. You can always bring Saenz back in. The biggest issue to me is still the D. Of course, Bailey was throwing dimes last night. I think it would have been hard for any defense to stop. He was ON. En fuego! They said the 4th level of the press box was full of scouts. So, his stock hopefully just doubled. -

I've been worried about LP's D ever since the previous DC left for Shadow Creek. I know the new DC is probably very good. But, this is the most porous LP D I've seen in a few years. Even when they are in position, they seem to have forgotten how to properly wrap up and tackle. Part of that is the opponents they've played as they're all well above average teams. But, if LP doesn't get these issues cleaned up for district, they may be looking at a trip away in the first round. They need this off week to regroup and focus on fundamentals again. I haven't seen any real improvement since Week 1. I think it will be good for them to also have some time without all the press. Press has been crawling all over since before the first game. Not sure how much of a distraction it has been. But, I can't think it would be helpful. Friendswood always plays LP tough, and they look like they are definitely a better squad than last year from the scores I've seen. Really tough game coming up. Hoping this loss will help them refocus, and start fixing some of the issues these good opponents have revealed. May also be time to give Wells his shot. He threw some nice balls last night, and showed some good scrambling skills. Still, to be 2-1 (vs 0-3 last year) against the same competition with all the hoopla is not a bad start. Just need to keep improving. -

I understand the restrooms even have a/c. Haven’t been able to take Mama to an actual game yet. Only a pep rally. As nice as everything is & handicap seating, elevators and all, she still has to have assistance in the restroom and there’s no family restroom. But, you can’t accommodate everyone all the time. We can still watch from home. So, that’s good. She misses the bands though.
