  1. Having seen Coldspring for three years now I’d say the coach has done a great job. He has he built the core of a program that showed every indication of taking off, if the parents would get out of the way.

Hopefully the younger girls stick with it, there is a good coach and some real talent out in Coldspring and for a second there it looked like they were getting it together.

  2. Congratz to La Grange for putting it to Huffman tonight. We were out played, even if I don't think we were totally out matched. Huffman as a team has come a long way in maturity as well as talent but they still need to learn how to bring it together as a team when the chips are down. Tonight they let a rocky start steam roll into a big loss. IMHO it takes more patience when facing a pitcher like we saw from La Grange than was shown, the girls were over aggressive at times swinging at the "pitcher's pitch" and not picking one they could really drive.

Of course that is a major reason for being in this type of tournament early in the season is for the girls to learn such things. All in all a productive time so far for the Lady Falcons in the tournament. Hope they are able to learn from tonight's loss and apply it to the two games tomorrow.

  3. Different girl, will the Real Bailey Sousa please stand up?! Our Bailey Sousa is a four year varsity player at Huffman. She has mostly been a lefty slapper but has developed a huge amount of bat speed and power from the left side. Grand Slam and a deep deep ball that should have been HR (single in the books) number two aside from the 90MPH wind blowing in from center.

  4. The Lady Falcons did all that was asked of them, it had to end at some point but the way it ended was a travesty. This is not to say the the Sweeny girls were terrible and Huffman was phenomenal. Sweeny played a tough game and had some rough calls themselves. However and maybe this is my naivety, I would expect a group of competent refs for an area match up.

I would put forth that if three defenders roll over a Huffman girl going to the lane (never touching the ball) for no call there should not be a hand check foul called on Huffman 8 seconds later, If the refs are going to let it be physical (common in playoffs) then it should be called both ways.

I would put forth that if, a Huffman girl dives for a loose ball, grabbes it and then a full second, if not two, later has a Sweeny girl jump on top of her should not have the Huffman girl called for a foul. BTW, it was a blocking foul called on the Huffman girl not traveling. She was on the floor looking to pass.

I will grant that there are always two sides to every story and it is very recently that I watched this very emotional game. I will also put forth that I am certain that my thoughts will be very close to what they are now when I watch it on Hudl over the weekend.
