I think Pat Knight is doing the right thing here...Roc's laid back approach has been held over, apparently, to THIS year's team...In year one, Knight has got to let these guys know that those days are long gone, and I think he is slowly getting his point across....I know it will definitely help him in the future...Lamar will be better for it.
I am taking Nederland from both a talent and intellect perspective ;D
I am taking Nederland in this one, because they take FOUR teams to the playoffs and no matter HOW bad your district is, you SHOULD be able to beat a 4th place team from another...usually...so I am picking Nederland in this one since they were HANDED the top seed by Central's concession... ::) ::)...Plus Nash, Nederland IS more talented than Dayton! ;D 8)
One has absolutely nothing to do with the other....WOS beat Hardin Jeffersn in football too, but it has ZERO to do with them getting beat by HJ in basketball....Laporte's basketball team was terrible...SOMETHING is definitely wrong... ::)
West Brook talent is ok but its not good or deep for 5a if they were 4a , 3a then game plans and x and o's would work with some of what they have but Brook has not had an inside man in years or a good one on one guy to go to,hey i wish all the kids and schools from orn - pt arthur would win but West Brook don't even have a 200 pound guy on that team and no defenses guys , they are playing 5a basketball college is next and i do think there is not one West Brook player playing college ball. I guess that might be coach problem because the last 5-7 , 6' 8" guys that played at Brook or not in college.
in 2000, WB started a 6'9, a 6'8 and boasted two of the best guards in the area...missed the playoffs.... ::)....They have had some big and talented teams too...nope, thats not it... ::)

Fact: Since 1998, Westbrook has had MORE Division I basketball players than Ozen and Central....Since 1998 Westbrook has had ZERO regional tournament appearances, ZERO district championships, and FIVE playoff appearances...Since 1998... ::)...There is SOMETHING wrong....
WB has talent but not enough to compete with North Shore.
There is a reason for that too. Even at THAT, kids STILL go to Westbrook...They were in the regionals in 95, 96, and 97....Then it all just......stopped. The kids have BEEN there...

Westbrook HAS had talent for YEARS. Largest HS in BEAUMONT. Talent is definitely not an excuse. FOUR TEAMS make the playoffs and Westbrook does not get in....SOMETHING is not right with that picture.

I am still trying to figure out how this is a "weak schedule" Kountze (26-8 1st Place District) Nederland (27-7 Co-Champs with Central) Beaumont Central (21-9 Co-Champs with Nederland) Port Lavaca Calhoun (28-4 1st Place District--Ranked as high as #21) Corpus Christi Calallen (14-15 2nd Place Behind CC Ray) Kingwood Park (24-11 2nd Place District Behind Humble) Jacksonville (24-8 2nd Place District Behind Tyler) LC-M (4 Times) (19-15 4th Place District) Silsbee (2 Times) (23-7 Co-Champs with HJ) 3A #5 Ranked Team Is it as strong as some teams, no!!! But it is far from weak!!!! 12-1 in those 13 games. Only loss at Silsbee by 3 points. There are no more or no less weak teams on HJ's schedule than anyone else's!!!! No world beaters on there either!!! But non-district wins over good solid 4A teams and a solid 2A team in Kountze.
The schedule is not and never has been the problem in reality. Some feel the need to find a way to discredit a situation that they resent or envy, particularly if it is exceeding expectations. If you can't attack the won-loss record, the schedule is the next logical step. If for some reason that fails, then, even though it is quite a bit less credible, you will hear things like " the refs give them preferential treatment", or "their old coach is in the UIL" yadda, yadda, yadda. Bottom line is, if you are winning, you will always face some detractors and nothing can be done about that.
Seriously...you are right..but I think BLUEDOVE3 just likes to give you guys a hard time..I know he is one who can truly appreciate a good basketball program. As far as the schedule goes, you can really only play the teams locally, for the most part, unless its an out of town tournament, and being that HJ was probably one of the top areas teams, they just have to play whoever they can get to line up in front of them...36-1 is hard to argue against. -
Yes right into a Brookshire Royal team that has two '6"6 post players and swept Jones' Sealy team in district by scores of 101-81 and 86-70. ;) ::) The concession had more to do with Silsbee wanting to lineup a particular warm up opponent and prepare them for some match up problems than the route thru the brackets. I would say that BOTH games were lopsided, so a game at a neutral site SHOULD be anyone's game. U can't count a game that was played 68 days ago and not count one from 38 days ago.
You are right..I was thinking about the Ozen game in Nederland...I stand corrected...You guys COULD have had a shot to beat them if you would have played again...20-4A... :-X
Before your "glorious" return to this board, there were several experts(self perceived, of course) that voiced multiple complaints about how the inferior schedule of HJ as compared to other area notables would be a detriment. HJs record against those notables says that claim had no credibility in the least.
Ohhh, I see..perhaps my "glorious" return should have come earlier, so that me, in my infinite wisdom, could have refuted those claims about HJ's "soft as wet tissue paper" schedule in the pre-district... 8)
