  1. To BrenhamFan:  I looks like Giddings & Needville are the strongest in Region IV; however two teams from Region III have played them, scores   Robinson 14 Giddings 4  and also Huffman 5 Needville 4
  2. Instead of thinking outside of the box...let's kick the box down on all sides....HOW ABOUT MCNEESE IN LAKE CHARLES!  :o
  3. Go Indians!  You have quietly established yourselves as a solid playoff team, Congrats!
  4. With Robinson, Jasper, Orangefield and Bridge City: Region III is fixing to have it's on version of the FINAL FOUR.  I think these 4 teams are by-far the best in the state. It was not that easy for anyone this weekend--Jasper got off a little lighter than the others; Orangefield got their nose-bloodied one time by WO-S; Robinson barely survived a fierce Mexia rebound; Bridge City had a great 3rd game out of Hayden Guidry--a promising big Freshman-- to survive 7-4 win in the third game over a surprisingly poised Huffman squad. I have seen both Jasper and Bridge City play recently and have NO IDEA how that series will play out.  At this level of play anyone can win because they can stay focused, they want it the most! I thought Coach Landry did a bright thing in the last game against the Falcons....he started a tall Freshman that tends to bring the ball high over his head and drive is down at a slight angle!  After facing that methodology of pitching; he then sends Matt Hicks as the "closer".  Matt's style of in-your-face horizontal pitching was too abrupt a change to adjust to for a very tired Falcon team--they could not handle Matt once again. The host of Sophomores at BC have done a good job thus far to improve enough each week to stay solidly in the hunt. Orangefield got their wake-up call from WO-S and responded very well.... and I think they might knock Robinson out this coming weekend. Can someone tell us their impressions of the games they observed this weekend also?
  5. Good chance they will use their best Pitcher(who caught last night).....Blaine Hashagen has a real good arm.  I look for BC to be quite aggressive on stealing today.  The BC team speed was a factor last night on assorted base running. Should be good games at 3:00 pm and later if needed....
  6. I am looking for Huffman to be quite resilient tonight.  They should have some depth; they are the largest enrollment school in Region III.  Should have a number of viable pitchers to choose from. May both teams play their hearts out tonight.
  7. Thanks for the Broadcast!  The shut-ins, folks with small children, nursing home folks and many many more will get to participate.
  8. A very mature and responsible reply! Thank you for sharing some fine thoughts.  If all our "sparkplugs" in the area decide to urge all facets of Lamar's Leadership: I think these folks might really re-think and find a way to make some baseball synergy happen. Again Thanks!  What a great place for H.S. Uth to get to play on occasion.
  9. I certainly think Jasper is a strong foe.  To have a great Pitcher like Sowell have a somewhat bad night and his team play solid ball behind him, certainly is to be admired.  Winning at this level requires winning in non-traditional ways in many cases.  Good Coaching can find a way to win.  Heart has a lot to do with playoff winning.
  10. As we all know the Coaches for each team will set the strategy.... We are all just guessing and that is about it.  I kind of feel that on the BC side they will not burn Hicks early on: maybe he will serve as a 3 inning closer in several games.  The Coaches make those decisions!  If I understand right: a Pitcher can pitch up to a max of 10 innings in a three game series.  It takes a tough fellow to be called upon to be able to do that!
  11. I just rolled in from the Jasper vs Hudson game; all I can say it was wild and wooly. Early on, Sowell walked 5 and hit two but Hudson seemed to not be strong enough to capitalize on all the folks that were on base during these first 3 innings. Likewise, Hudson committed 3 errors at third, plus two others and seemed to not be able to handle the ball in a number of situations.  Thus 5-0 early for Jasper, basically made on errors by Hudson's infield. The Jasper catcher(Ty Parker), did have a good hit to left field. Burleson came in for Jasper and immediately Hudson started hitting the ball and had several scores. Jasper then started to hit the Hudson pitcher; as he appeared to really tire.  It was 7-2 when I left but with so many-- hit batters, walks, errors-- it was hard to access the strength of Jasper relative to other teams left in the playoff brackets.
  12. Good luck to PNG, you are still in the arena when some good teams have bit the dust!
  13. Robertson or Rhodes Bellow or Laird
  14. To Fish:  Can you share with us the Pitchers that Huffman will call on in these three games.  A little details please?  I would guess we throw--Hayden Guidry(big Freshman); Mitch Hubbard(Sophomore); Forrest Zoch(Junior)-- in some order...
  15. Directions please to the Morris Frank Park in Lufkin---coming in from Huntington?
  16. To ETBU:  I read your "dust off" comments and started laughing--I remember when 3ADL started out in 2001 and Paratrooper, ETBU, and I; kind of kept that thing alive early-on by starting "gross-discussion" just to get folks stirred enough to join & post!  ;D Your 'dust off BC' post was started by a real pro--right?  Will see you next Saturday.  My hope for both teams is that they both can play to the best of their ability and have a good playoff experience.
  17. Kind of getting tired of seeing Obummer on the TV news. Think I will drive up to Lufkin to see the Lufkin Hudson vs Jasper game Wednesday night. Maybe go early enough to get a fine meal at Dean's in Huntington ....then beat it over to Lufkin Life is good!    ;D I suspect that Bridge City, Orangefield, Jasper & Robinson: are the four best teams in all of 3A.  It's one of these that will possibly win the State 3A Champion..... maybe.    :o
  18. This is not going to be necessarily a slam dunk about Lamar at all.  It is just an avenue to get some attitudes change possibly If, say the Friday night games for WO-S vs OF and BC vs Huffman were played at HS fields--first game Friday AND all other games second or even third played all day at Lamar that might benefit Lamar U. If Lamar would just charge $4000 for whatever ends up being played on Saturday; I guarantee the crowds would arrive and see all the games.  Yes, Lamar just might be chosen by good players at these contest to play and attend college in the Golden Triangle.  A friend of mine said that with these teams bunched together--THE COLLEGE SCOUTS--would attend, as well. It was an enjoyable Saturday at Nacogdoches: to watch OF and BC take on the 24-3A top foes(in back-to-back games).  Maybe a little pressure to the Representative(both Democratic and Republicans) about Lamar's history of showing little interest in sports supported by the taxpayers of the community--might change their attitude. While I am at it, every effort has been made to get college level Softball at Lamar University Beaumont and they just have presented us with--passive resistance. Remember, the creaking hinge gets the oil.  I am going to call a few Politicians and see if they can't take some type of action to get Lamar to be more community-friendly in their Athletic Department! I know we could draw a big crowd at that stadium Saturday, if Lamar would settle for $4000.00 for whatever games need be played for the UIL Playoffs! Comments on anyway we can get their Reagents or Top Bureaucrats attention?
  19. Only word out and I have no idea if it is reliable is that--number of games & location will be determined by Monday evening.  I would like to see 2/3 games; that way the winner would get in a little more playing time and batting practice that week. I would like Lamar Stadium in Beaumont.  It seems a lot of spectators will come to see a HS playoff game played at that college field.
  20. Agree Bleed Orange,  and to Bobcat55, when you added in a- second post- that your reasoning was that the Falcons may have sustained some pitcher problems... it kind of took the--edge--off the remark, so-to-speak.  Communications has always been a problem for all.  We write thinking in one vein: someone reading has only the-- printed words--and has no idea of the intend or back ground expanded thoughts of the writer. We have all on discussion boards said to ourselves, "Wow, how did he get THAT out to the simple statement that I wrote"  ;D
  21. Actually when I posted this it was meant to be a poetic-type compliment.  I was just saying the OF has never had a team of this caliber; as this fine Bobcat team, in their history.  I was not intending this to be taken as a bad remark.  I played baseball and football against the Bobcats way back in the late 1950s and have followed them closely and even had kinfolk star at OF. I maintain my belief that-- all the stars aligned this year-- and this is the best OF has ever fielded on a baseball diamond. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now as to the real topic of this thread.  At this level any team has the capability to group their hits and win a game.  Example, Bullard was 10-0 in District and Mexia was a 3rd team without a stellar record; yet, they pulled out a win.  Yes they will again play a team that 10-run ruled them twice, this next weekend.....But that kind of proves-- determination-- that they made it to this point and beat a top 10 ranked Bullard team in the playoffs.
  22. We knew you folks could take a joke......we were just having fun too    ;D Jasper an Hudson can both be salty, should be exciting!
  23. Good job Evadale!  We ate supper last night at "Dean's" in Huntington.  The Evadale team was there--they are a good bunch. They are hoping to schedule some 3A & 4A better teams JVs next season in preseason.  They have a great attitude, those Rebels do.    8)
