  4. I agree completely. All students, especially in such a small population as a basketball team, require close scrutiny of the grades to ensure eligilbity. At risk students, which I think we can probably all agree the particular student was, certainly require closer watching. That didn't happen and the price has been paid..
  5. No argument there. In my home growing up, no pass no play was implemented long before the Texas Legislature ever considered it. Computer error, human error, it doesn't matter. Like you said the kid was apparently close enough to being below the line that closer watching was warranted. It didn't happen and the Mustangs will pay the price. But if Tramaine Hancock looks at a grade on the computer and it shows passing, I don't think that anyone could say that he only used due diligence if he asked for a diagnostic of the WO-C CISD computers.
  6. Now I never said 14 in Port Neches......it was 7.
  7. Coach Robinson took the game thinking that he would be in a 6 team district. The UIL wrecked that one.
  8. Now, before we go asking for mass firings, let's let the facts be revealed. The version of facts as I have been told indicates that there was no intentional part on player, teacher, coach or administrator to skirt the rules or no negligence on the part of anyone in the athletic department. The fault as I have been told, lies as the feet of a faulty computer. Reportedly, the computer in which a failing grade was entered, showed a passing grade. This wasn't revealed until the WO-S athletic secretary was checking this student's grades to confirm eligibility for the track season and learned of the student's actual grade. I have not learned whether the teacher who entered the grade new of the glitch. At that point, WO-S had no choice but to self report to the 22-4A DEC which ruled that the Mustangs had to forfeit their 4 district wins. But the rule is clear if a student is failing, he is ineligible. If he is ineligible, any game or games in which he played are forfeited, regardless of the level of knowledge of the failing grade.
  9. West Sabine: Wk 1 - Frankston Wk 2 - Beckville Wk 3 - Hemphill Wk 4 - Timpson Wk 5 - Wk 6 - West Sabine is currently looking for a Wk 5 or Wk 6 game.
  10. I have just received word that Gilmer and Newton will play Week 5
  11. The grass does look awful high there when certain Orange County teams play over there, too. LOL!
  12. I find it difficult to buy your proclamation of innocence, as within the very post in which you claim to do so, you proceed to write this: You know, two years ago I didn't hear a chorus of "Newton is scared of us" when Newton refused to play. In fact, no mention was EVER made about it until Coach Johnston made his admission in the Enterprise last year. But you see, this is just another reminder that words and actions have consequences, and yes, WO-S' refusal IS a consequence of those words of last year and those actions of a couple of years ago. I think the coach you claim to be doing bidding for can confirm that for you if he wants to give an ACCURATE rendition of the facts as they occurred yesterday. It is unfortunate as a game that I believe helps both teams will go 4 straight years without being played. But before you go off again (only to backtrack as you have just done, yet taking another swipe in doing so), you may want to consider that the reason that Newton does not have at least an eighth game lies as much in the Newton athletic offices as anywhere. Don't blame WO-S, Carthage and Gilmer for that.
  13. Ahhh, I thought I had moved them. My mistake which has been corrected. Thanks for the heads up.
  14. And some of the biggest Eagle fans outside of Newton wear blue and silver on Friday nights. And no, the ramblings of a couple of idiots won't change that. But what was this thread about? We are told by the person who started this was to show how hard the Newton staff was working to put a schedule together. Really? Did anyone think for one moment that W.T. Johnston, Steve Fentress or Greg Neece have just been sitting on their thumbs? If anyone who knows how difficult it is, it is the fans of WO-S who have seen for years their coaching staff go though the same struggles that Newton is facing this year. Most years, the average Mustang fan would have plenty of sympathy. But your comrades, one purportedly doing the bidding of a member of the Newton coaching staff and another who is a member of the Newton broadcast team, decided to go and take a swipe at possibly the only school that might really knows what they are going through only to protest that they are really supporters of WO-S. BS! Given the events of 2 years ago, such words from them are nothing but the height of hypocrisy and believe me, WO-S alum will let their feelings known about it.
  15. revised to reflect the current UIL and TAPPS realignments
  16. Updated after 1/30 results and today's DEC meetings.
  17. And we didn't know that already? Hattie, who I KNOW to be an important part of the Newton program, has been on here giving the info on the games that Newton needed for a month here. He repeated that today. Heck, I forwarded the info about Newton's schedule, put on facebook and put them damned thing in a tweet that I attached a hashtag that meant it was seen statewide. No, this was a case of Newton fan (AGAIN) who tried to get on this site and run some sorting shaming scam. Have you ever seen Gilmer's strength of non-district schedule? How about Carthage? I'll clue you in, as outstanding a team as the Eagles have this season, for either of those schools to take on Newton would be a PROHIBITIVE drop in their strength of schedule. I love the Newton Eagles, I hope they kick butt all the way to Arlington and back. But this constant tugging on Superman's cape is gonna bring you and some of your Newton brethren nothing but embarrassment!
  18. I'd swear you were there because as I understand it, this is EXACTLY what Coach Thompson conveyed to Newton when they came calling.
