Coach Bobby McGallion will also earn the fruit of last year's young team as plenty of experience in the skill positions have the Tigers poised to again challenge for the top of 21-3A. He will be joined in the backfield by 21-3A newcomer of the year Floyd Spearman (141 carries, 801 yd, 9 TD rusning; 16 catches, 163 yd, 2 TD receiving), but look for seniors Kendrick Scott ( 6 carries, 72 yards, 2 TD) and Yancy Brydson (18 carries, 59 yards, 2 TD) to also get some carries. Reed will have plenty of targets to seek out in the Silsbee spread as senior Jordan Holmes (2nd team all district, 13 catches, 261 yards, 1 TD in 2011) will lead that will include seniors Montana Garcia (1 catch, 34 yds)and LaDavian Barnes, as well as junior Zayon Jackson. The offensive line will feature senior center Ross Gilchriest, junior tackle Kanon Mackey (2nd team all district in 2011) and senior guard Dillon Morgan. 2012 Defense Defense: 5-0 Returning starters: 4 Four starters return from Silsbee's 2011 squad to man the 2012 defense. Up front, 21-3A Defensive Co-Newcomer of the Year, junior Seth Adams, will be joined by senior defensive ends Dusty Thibodeaux (2nd team all district) and Adam Valencia as well as junior defensive tackles Jamarcus Myers and Austin Roundtree. Senior linebackers Karl Elers will be joined by juniors Jack Gore and Colby LeBlanc. Senior safety Coy Bird and his junior counterpart Jordan Gore will lead the Tiger secondary. 2012 Key Games Silsbee will welcome former 4A district foe Port Neches-Groves to town to start the 2012 regular season on August 31st. The Battle of Village Creek will commence two weeks later on Septemeber 14th as the Tigers travel to Lumberton. Orangefield opens the 21-3A district schedule on September 28th followed by a key matchup at Bridge City on the October 12th. Silsbee hosts West Orange-Stark in the district finale on November 9th. [img][Hidden Content]] HIGH ISLAND CARDINALS 2011 Record: 1-8 Overall, 1-2 District (4th Place in District 14-1A-I) For the 2011 High Island Cardinals, the biggest problem from week to week was the ability to field a team to compete as fourteen players took the field for 11 man play. Nine of those young men never left the field. And yet the Cardinals were able to compete in most of the schedule. But after the season concluded, Jeff Jones faced the reality of a steadily decreasing enrollment that would preclude him from being able to field an 11 man team to compete, much less win. So he made a decision that saved football in High Island, Texas. He presented to the High Island ISD school board the idea of joining Chester as a Southeast Texas six man team. The UIL granted that wish in February. Jones has stepped aside so that Brent Williamson, a 6 man veteran who had lead several of his Gustine teams to the playoffs, could take the reigns. Williamson has a good crew of returning players whose success will be determined on how fast they learn the nuances of this new brand of football. Coaching Staff Head Coach: Brent Williamson Coaching Record: 1st year at High Island; 14-9 overall Stadium Information* Home Stadium: Cardinals Nest Stadium Address: 6th St at High School Rd., High Island, Texas 77623 Capacity: 1000 Playing surface: Natural 2011 Results

Opponent Score

Woodlands Christian 16-48

Colmesneil 6-51

Beaumont Legacy Christian 0-52

Galveston O'Connell 21-26

West Hardin 0-1 (F)

Hull-Daisetta 14-48

Burkeville# 16-34

Sabine Pass# 28-22

Evadale# 12-35

# - District games 2012 Offense Fortunately, Coach Williamson does have some skill players to help the transition as senior quarterback Justin Molen (1st team all district in 2011) returns along with seniors Lane Kahla, Ricky Guerrero (both 1st team all district wide receivers), John Garrett-Griffin and Jentry Weisinger (2nd team all district). Sophomore Michael Gutierrez will provide protection up front. 2012 Defense Junior linebacker Dylan Blake (1st team all district), Kahla (2nd team all district) and Guerrero (honorable mention) should team with junior Sevastion Lopez to form a strong base for the Cardinal defense. 2012 Key Games High Island will begin its stint as a six man team in Alvin when it takes on Fort Bend Christian on September 1st. District play for the Cardinals will not come until October 27th when Oakwood visits. Fellow SETX six man team Chester visits on November 9th to close out the regular season. Starting a fair sized O line and only losing 2 key players on their D, one of witch was out in the liberty game with a broke neck.. Losing Gilbert is big but having Cooper and Johnson in the backfield will put the 2 headed monster back in action!!!! It should be a fun year this year and I hope it is a safe season for all the teams in the area.. Good Luck guys ;D ;D
Is Coldspring returning the qb? He was a pretty decent runner from what I saw.
Yes, he is returning for his senior year.

Nederland Bulldogs state bound !
WOSgrad replied to Ned11str8's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Come on guys, like I said before hope springs eternal....or at least til Week 0. -
I must have struck a nerve with you to get two re posts out of that! :'( Who cares if your a "setx pollster", you cant even get your facts right, Vidor went to the playoffs two out of the last three years. And let me make it clear since you cant understand what im talking about, I am not referring to the poll, I am referring to you degrading Vidor for no reason other than to make yourself feel better. And im sure with your unbiased polling that Vidor would be at the top of your poll....we know better than that :) :)
What tvc did was offer insight as to why Vidor might not be in a state wide poll, and if I might say so, a pretty accurate insight (although Vidor's last playoff win before last season was in the Johnson administration, not Kennedy). Rightly or wrongly, the guys in the state polls especially those whose organizations do not have a real presence in either the Houston area or the Triangle, look at a team's history. And in the case of Vidor, they are a team that has had. outside of the last few years, mostly a record of futility. It is very similar to the situation that the Nederland basketball team faced last year as they failed to crack the TABC poll during the season despite their success. The success of the Pirates over the last few years is something that has been celebrated by this board as a whole and tvc specifically. It was a thrill to be part of the broadcast team that called their victory over Montgomery last year and as I currently have family members that are employed specifically by the Vidor ISD athletic department, I have reason to wish for their continued success. But outside of our small little area of the state, two playoff wins in three years after a playoff drought of 8 years and one of 23 years before that is what is on paper and for most of these folks paper is all that they see. It is not an attempt at bashing, it is laying out fact in giving an explanation to some folks, who even though they have by history on this board a RABID loyalty to Vidor, evidently had a lot less problem with tvc's explanation than you did, as to why the Pirates are not in preseason polls. If you find that degrading, perhaps an order of an extra layer of skin is in order, because your current set is a bit too thin.

Not a real big loss, fellas. Of the ones that have been traded, he is closer to being one of those that the Astros could have done without a couple of years back.

2012 Orange Community Christian Lions Team Preview
Larry is a phenominal guy and will do a great job at CCS. The rest of the staff is still intact with Chris Bellard, Dan Brack, and Johnny Robinson. These guys are all very dedicated and should have a very successful year in six man. I look for that team to compete very strongly for a State ring this year. I know they are only a second year program, but they have talent that most public schools would like to have. Good Luck Lions!!! It was an honor to coach you boys!!
Coach, I know those guys felt it was an honor to play for you. I understand that you are now on the LC-M staff. Coach Crouch has made a very good addition to the staff. Good luck this season.....after Week 0 that is. :) -

Plus Angleton has played Dayton the past 2 years and will now play Nederland the next 2, so I was just wondering. You did a heck of a job with the ones you've done so far.
First, I do appreciate the kind words and I am sincerely flattered at a request to do others. Now for a reason that I did ones for schools that you had mentioned was that they are now district mates of SETX schools Baytown Lee and Goose Creek Memorial who are now in 24-4A with Friendswood, Galena Park, Galveston Ball, Pearland Dawson, Santa Fe and Texas City. I followed that course with every district 3A and above (I didn't do it for 2A and below because of lack of response from the schools outside of SETX to my questionnaire). I am not real sure about doing another at this point as I have not been in contact with Coach Roark so he has not had the opportunity to fill out my questionnaire (although it is much shorter than the ones sent by DCTF or FNF) and I wish not to post merely a rehash of Angleton's DCTF entry for legal reasons. Plus, to fufill the request would probably lead to more requests and that is a load that I am not sure I would be able to do as I have moved on to other tasks in preparation of the upcoming season. As a measure of appreciation, though, I will do this. If you can remind me in April of 2013, I will add Angleton to my list for next year. Boy I hope I know what I am getting into, lol!
Hey Grad You are doing a great job. but just one small question. what about silsbee are you going to do one for them?
Silsbee's preview is due to be released on Thursday. -
I did. But not all do.
Take this crap to a Houston area board. ;)

I'm pretty new to Texas HS football. Came across this board during the '10 season when I was trying to figure out whether my kids' HS team, which seemed to be doing pretty well, was for real or not. I've posted a little but read quite a bit on here since then. Been reading and posting on a few other boards since then as well, but the shear volume of postings here is just amazing, even more so given the relatively small geo footprint for SE TX. You guys always post more than on any other board, even state-wide ones. And the postings have a great combination of insights, trash talking, homerism (is that a word?) and - compared to some other boards - humility and good sportsmanship when one's team looses. So, even being out of the official SE TX / Golden Triangle area, I keep coming back here to see what's going on and what people think about SE TX.. All that said . . . AIN'T NO WAAAAYYYYYYYY PAM IS GOING TO BEAT MANVEL if they do meet up in the playoffs!!!!!!! ;D La Porte / Manvel - now that could be a game for the ages, but I'll still favor the Mavericks. Oh . . . and, ah, Hoka Hey!
Thanks for the kind words and all folks, regardless of geography are always welcome.
