Shocker: A&M, not UT, is Texas college sports revenue king
OldTimer replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in College Sports Forum
Hey A&M has even closed the gap in golf as the men's and women's teams were closely ranked for 2017 - but (sigh) Texas was slightly ahead for both men and women's golf. But Hoops you are 100% right in Texas football rules - gonna be an interesting 2017-2018 campaign. Lets get her started. -
Shocker: A&M, not UT, is Texas college sports revenue king
OldTimer replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in College Sports Forum
Take the Stadium Expansion out and Texas still is the dominate $$$$$ maker in the state - period. But the question that should be asked is this - Why is the Texas overall athletic department not better????? They pay their coaches 10% more than Ohio State - 21% more that Alabama and just a mere 40% more than those poor Aggies. But the football team - well if the truth be known has been better, Basketball has been better - so on and so on. Recently those poor out-paid Aggies who everyone one likes to make fun of have out performed Texas in Football, Track (both men and women), Baseball, Softball and Basketball was basically a toss-up. Texas still is doing better is Women's Volleyball and Swimming (both men and women). So is the money being well spent???? Discuss (or for Texas fans become indignant) -
Funny thing is I was serious when I stated hope it works out for y'all. What I am waiting for is for when a certain team in the post Mack era has (1) a winning season and (2) wins a post season game - when that happens let's talk. I really do hope that is this season for "that team" - we will have to wait and see.
-
Good to see Texas expectations high - but I do vauguely remember a similar listing the year after Mack left and coach Strong took the helm. Hope it works out for y'all this time. And UTF boy you sound a lot like the Aggies of old as "this ain't last year" sounds a whole lot like "wait till next year" - just an opinion. Texas might just might want to wait to prove itself on the field before they start talking NC.
-
Good to be back even if only for a little while and on and off. But tell me if I am wrong - did you just cross baseball (2011 last football NC pfor Texas) and 1939 ( last football NC for A&M) - at least keep the discussion in the same sport!
-
You are right they were - but they were there? Not like many other teams that (1) failed to make post-season (2) lost in the Regionals (3) lost in the super's - Good year for an Aggie team that did much more than expected. Gotta give credit when credit is due.
-
Man been away for awhile good to see nothing has changed: Texas fans - Man we were really really good "back when" A&M was not supposed to get out of their regional as the 3 ranked team and if I remember right was one of the last 4 teams to be invited to the post season at all. I think even Texas fans can see how this A&M team performed much better than expected by even making it to the CWS.

He did do that did he not - but, What do I know as I am the Aggie supporter that wants to fire Sumlin and hire that Central Michigan coach. -

Just a quick question - is the Kentucky coach as good as Herman as he beat Louisville as well? -

Sorry dude - can't change "actual" history - Strong was the coach of choice after Saben - go back and read your Texas fans post on "Strong Coaching Pedigree" say pages 1 - 45. I was around man he was not a "supported" hire he was the CHOICE (after the untouchable Saben but then again so is every coaching search now) - but you are right he did not work out - hope ya'll have better luck with Herman. -

Everybody wanted Strong 3 years ago as well -
I tend to agree - but as an Aggie fan would love to see Texas get into another Strong with rose colored glasses again. Herman could turn the system around - or could be the next Strong - remember Strong had just 2 good years at Louisville and was average before that. In the big picture Herman is really new to the Head Coaching world. But hell who am I to talk I want Sumlin fired and have A&M hire the Western Michigan coach - really the same situation.

Offense is trying - just the defense is pitiful

Reports tonight that Knight will start vs. LSU???

Not sure I agree with this. Herman has just 2 season's under his belt with a team largely recruited by Tony Levine only 6 of his starters are Soph's or younger - so the rest were not his recruits. Texas will be a lot tougher horse to tame than the opponents that Houston faces. But again only time will tell. -

Jim Harbaugh to Texas - is that the Texas dream this search? No gonna happen. But like TexazBall if he even showed the slightest interest would jump on that one well before Herman. -

Strong appears to be done - I do think he is a good man just that big time college football is where wins are the only thing that matters and running a clean program comes in a distant 2nd. Now the question is going to be who is the next savior for the Longhorn Nation - Mack was too soft, Strong not soft enough (rules gotta have rules brother) now who is going to step up and take the challenge? Herman - while pulled off 2 big wins against Oklahoma and Louisville - he did lose to lowly SMU is that not kinda the issue at the moment - losing to teams you should beat? Saben - Texas's w*t dream - not going to happen but boy if it did Texas could be a dynasty again and soon Les Miles - funny even that the name is mentioned - if he had trouble at LSU Texas Alums's would eventually bury this guy Lane Kiffin - Heard this name mentioned - did he not fail fairly miserably at his last head coaching gig? Chip Kelly - this one just makes me laugh - his personality at Texas would be a major clash. Others who knows - gonna be an interesting ride so hang on. -
Still better than losing to Kansas
-
Even with that catch Strong would still be out - that close a game to Kansas when they were "turning it around" - nail in the coffin man.
-
Lol - A win is a win - but they better make some changes and get their head on straight or next week may be embarrassing.
-
My opinion: Strong is very likely a better coach than he has shown - just think that when you coach at Texas you have to be prepared to be EVERY teams big game and be ready to face every teams best. I think he is also a good man but likely will be out of a job - perhaps as early as Monday.
-
As as fan - does get old every year - Alabama was understandable but the last 2 weeks were winnable games - this 2nd half collapse was just hard to watch.

#4 Texas A&M @ Mississippi State/ A&M loses 35-28
OldTimer replied to king's topic in College Sports Forum
Sorry I kinda thought he sounded like a Horn fan - "Things are gonna be better next year when we get that next great recruiting class" - just paraphrasing - -
You may be right but I do not know one single Husky fan - but I do know a lot of Horn fans and most of them are fit to be tied that A&M is even mentioned in the discussion - I think it is funny. Would love to see Horn fans squirm if A&M were to pull of the incredible and make the playoffs - still a long long shot but not out of the realm of possibility. This was supposed to be a disaster year after the two QB's bolted and the A&M program (from outside sources) was in total disarray - now 7 - 1 and ranked No. 7 nationally and 4 in the playoff rankings - gotta admit it is good to be an A&M fan on this day - just hope it lasts - but today is a good day.
