1. Boy, penny, you hit that nail on the head...I don't think any community would like to be judged solely on the actions of their biggest knuckleheads...we have our fair share in Nederland, but so does every one else...sounds to me like someone is trying to live a bit too vicariously through their 12 year old son...let the boys play ball, have fun, compete with every thing in 'em, and may the best team win
2. Great job, 11U Riders!!! Congrats on the win over an impressive field. Troy and his coaches do a great job with these kids. They are a great bunch of kids as well. Good luck at the WS.
3. I did make several Nederland games last year and here is my two cents...this particular group has talent, but they need to learn how to play together...to say they haven't been close to the playoffs is incorrect as well...this team had a legitimate shot to make it last year, but fell apart down the stretch...English has made Nederland basketball much better, it just had a long way to go from where it was...that is not a knock on anyone, but simply put, basketball was not relevant at Nederland at all until Brian came over...now it is, and I suspect that you will see Nederland in the playoffs very soon...English knows how to build a program and he realizes that you have to start by generating interest in the game and program and getting the younger kids playing as well...this never happened before in Nederland, but I would venture to say that there are more kids in Nederland playing basketball than ever before and that is from age 7/8 on up. The player to watch IMO next year is Forney...he will be a soph, but the kid has HUGE potential...if they can put team above self next year, and I know Brian is preaching that, then they will be pretty good next year and, I suspect, in the playoffs. English is definitely the right guy for Nederland basketball...just remember, that his job is a very long climb to the top from where it was...he will get them there!
4. I have a feeling beard will do a fine job of that...especially with the added speed he will bring. I think that Hanna will get the majority of the carries this year because Lumberton can't afford to take Beard out on defense. And not to mention that Hanna is a 215lbs guy that runs a legit 4.6. Don't get me wrong, I think Coach C did a GREAT job with our boys last year, but I don't think he used Hanna to his full advantage... Razor08, be careful using my name...pounce/titan will end up hating your guts...lol How is Lumberton going to be up front this year? Their O and D lines really impressed me last year and I was curious about how many of those kids are returning
5. unlv, it is time to get on the bandwagon or get out of the way...he is the coach and no amount of your complaining will change that...anything negative you say at this point is simply detrimental to the program...be a winner and make the most out of the situation at hand. I for one have been impressed with his attitude early on...IMO attitude is the single most important characteristic a good leader must have...he seems to have it, so I don't really care what his experience level is...i wish him well and will support the program.
6. Wow!! What a comeback. Losing the first game would have made the track to the championship very difficult.
7. So far, I am very impressed...the guy speaks like a winner and that attitude alone makes me feel good about the hire...this will not be an easy process, making LU footbal successful, but I like what I am hearing about and from the guy they chose to lead the ship.
8. Whether you agree with the decision or not, it is time to put that behind you and start supporting the program...lack of support is why this thing failed the last time...i personally cannot wait for the ball to get rolling and wish Coach Woodard or whoever gets the job the best of luck...can't wait to see some LU football
9. I could see that happening...the kid has some out and out speed as evidenced by his showings in track this season
10. CO and LC's 7th grade A teams played last night in the battle of 2 undefeated teams... Great game by both teams... LC is a very big and talented team and CO was short one of their starters but they did manage to beat LC in a tight one by a 34-31 count...I would think both programs have something to look forward to in the coming years.
11. CO handled Mauriceville by a large margin, 58-19 or something like that. They also played 3 games this weekend in the Nederland tournament and won all three with wins over St. Anne's, Port Neches, and Hamphire Fannett. Thursday should be a very interesting matchup between CO and LC.
12. Thanks. That sets up a very interesting match up for next Thursday bewteen two undefeated teams for the district title. CO is playing in a tournament this weekend so it's not a lock that they will be undefeated although they beat St. Annes last night by 16. They will however by perfect in district so this will be a showdown.
13. hey STJFL, did LC remain undefeated last night?
14.
Razor, I think they play Tuesday night, should be a great matchup to undefeateds going head to head good luck to both teams.
I believe they play each other on Thursday the 24th at LC.  You're correct, it should be a good one and will almost certainly be for the district title.
15. As is CO Wilson's 7th grade A team. That should be a great match up. CO won the Port Neches tournament this past weekend with wins over HF, Groves, and Central MS. Closest score was the HF game, which CO won by 17.
16. I could definitely live with JC at Dallas. Julius is as good as gone since he will be an unrestricted FA. Give the starting job to Barber and use Jamal as a change of pace back with his speed. Best of luck to JC! It is great to see a guy from this area have so much success. I think he could have had even more at Texas if used properly, but he is an amazing talent nonetheless.
17. ...and somehow, I suspect, Coach Gamble would have still put a winning team on the court.
18. I agree that a loss to Ozen is not the death knell for anyone in the district. I suppose that just about everybody will los to them. On the other hand, a team that can somehow play a near perfect game and beat Ozen has a distinct advantage over the rest. It is very early, but it looks like the district race is Ozen's to lose, as usual. The 2 and 3 spots should be contested between Central, LCM, Nederland, and PNG, although I don't know much about Dayton this year.
19. I have heard conflicting reports on exactly what happened, but if he did behave inappropriately, there is no place on a team for that. Who thinks Coach Gamble would have tolerated this behavior? You never heard of any of this when he was in charge at Lincoln. The guy ran a first rate program.
20. I thought Qualls was a very good set up man, but the need at closer was MUCH greater. I hate to see Qualls go, but they did get a first rate closer. Now if they could just shore up that starting rotation behind Oswalt?
21. 7th grade scores CO Wilson B 15 Port Neches B 8 CO Wilson A 52 Port Neches A 18
22. Dogs win a good one by the count of 57-53. Nederland was down by as many as 9, but stayed in the battle and won it in the end. Good, good win for a program on the rise. Spring was not big, but they did have a couple of real strong shooters who nailed several threes. Nederland is getting a couple of early season injuries behind them and they continue to improve.
23. I haven't seen much Lumberton bashing from Nederland. Most of our posters have pretty much tipped their caps to Lumberton and wished them well going forward. I will do the same here. They were the better team and clearly deserve to be in the playoffs. As for the Vidor fan who is gloating that our streak is over...well, the good news is that yours is still intact my friend. All good things must come to an end. Now it is time for the Dogs to start a new streak and I believe the talent coming down the pipe in the coming years will give us an opportunity to do just that. Best of luck to all of the local teams advancing. Bring some hardware back to SE Texas.
24. Hats off to Dayton...that was one of the smoothest performances I have seen in quite some time; absolutely dominant at just about every position; Dogs can either go into next week as a team backed into a corner or fold up the tent; i have a feeling about how they will respond, but we will see
