  1. I actually look for Nederland to be much stronger on the defensive side of the ball next year. Alot of talent is coming back plus offensive starter Chris Guiterrez is rumored to be moving to LB. The offense will be the bigger challenge as a great deal of talent is graduating, including Mosley and most of that great OL.
  2. That was probably more of a poor choice of words on my part. The consolation survivor did end up playing the championship game loser to see who got second. In this case, Barbers Hill A beat Beaumont to claim the second spot.
  3. BH beat LP and then Beaumont to claim second in the major division, so Nederland and BH advance to Nationals.
  4. Nederland ends up winning the championship with a 52-40 win over Beaumont. LP and BH were to play to see will face Beaumont for the consolation championship and berth in the national tournament alongside Nederland.
  5. Update from Nederland last night. Beaumont manhandled Port Neches, Nederland A beat LaPorte in 2OT to set up a championship match with Beaumont at 1pm today. In the consolation bracket, Nederland B beat Barbers Hill B and Barbers Hill A beat Lumberton by 2. So today, LP gets Nederland B and BH A gets Port Neches.
  6. The Laporte/Barbers Hill game was real good one. BH had plenty of opportunities to close LP out, but just could not do so. Nederland/LP should be a good one tonight. A good team will leave today as well when BH and Lumberton hook up in a consolation bracket game.
  7. From the National Division Major tournament in Nederland last night, Port Neches beat Nederland B, Beaumont beat Barber Hill B, LaPorte beat Barbers Hill A in a great double OT battle, and Nederland A beat Lumberton.
  8. Nederland Majors beat Bridge City 53-25 last night and beat Orangefield the night before. That score was something like 42-14 or something close to that.
  9. BH beat Nederland's B team but did not play Nederland A in the BH tournament. I think that BH has 2 teams as well in the major division.
  10. Nederland Major's went on to beat Beaumont and Gulf Coast on Saturday in Twin County.
  11. What age does each division represent? I have heard reference to juniors and majors. I thought there was a senior division as well.
  12. Brian will have these boys winning. If not this year, certainly I expect them to be very competetive next year. This team is already reaping the rewards of good coaching in that they have improved as the season progresses. Case in point, two pre-season losses to PNG, one by a large margin followed by a district win at the Reservation. Brian has these kids moving in the right direction and more importantly, beginning to believe in themselves. That is the single biggest component to building a winning program.
  13. Williams was great, but I will go with Mosley from Nederland.
  14. No stretch there. This kid is a legit 7 footer and he can flat play. Humble Christian is quite a team. I did not see the Ozen game but heard they handled them fairly easily. They also have a guard who shhots lights out and is already committed to Ball State. The big guy is going to A & M
  15. Jennings is not a terrible pick up but I think the Stros gave up too much for him. He is a relative bargain for 2007 at $5.5MM when you look at the contracts pitchers have been signing this off season. The biggest loss to me is Hirsch. Big guy with a live arm who I thought had some potential. I like Taveras but the bottom line is he has not proven to be a very good offensive player. A lead off guy with a .333 OBP just doesn't cut it plus he has absolutely no extra base power. Defensively, this will leave a big void in center. Diva, just so you will know, Roy O has been the Astros number one for several years already and he would be for just about any team in the league. Roy is one of the best in MLB, so while the rest of the rotation may be questionable, the number one is clearly in great hands. The Astros still need another bat IMO. They will be weaker defensively next year and will need to score more, plus the bullpen still has me nervous. I like Jennings, but would feel better if he were going to be our number 3, not number 2. This would put Williams at number 4 and we would be solid.
  16. Kensington, how can you say that Mosley's yards came late. Were you at the game? He had 71 yards alone on the opening drive! I also disagree with you about DJ. He played one of his better games of the year last Saturday and he continued to improve as the season wore on. He will be a true force next year
  17. I have some mixed feelings about this. To me, 4 is entirely too many and 3 may be too much. I feel very comfortable with 2 making it. When you go to three, you get a mixed bag...there are some very strong third place teams out there and some very weak ones. Heck, I remember one year not too long ago when WOS finshed 4th and was left out. Nederland went several rounds into the playoffs and it took a while before we played anyone who was as good as WOS was that year and they unfortunately stayed home. If I had to choose, I would say 2 teams make it.
  18. I've got a feeling that the Dogs might have a little playoff magic in 'em. If GP cannot stop the run, Mosley will add to his already impressive rushing total and GP may not see the ball much. Nederland 45, GP 28.
  19. West Orange won the junior division title with a 2-0 win over Woodville. WO got a safety late in the game for the only points. Nederland Black defeated WO to take the senior division crown. Final in that one was 12-0.
  20. The finals will be played this weekend at Hardin Jefferson stadium. I know that the Senior Division will be Nederland Black vs. West Orange. Nederland Black and Lumberton White played a physical, hard fought game with Nederland coming out on top 8-6, handing Lumberton their only loss of the season. WO came back in the second half to beat a scrappy Bridge City Red team. This should be a great game. I also know that Woodville will be one of the finalists in the Junior Division, but not sure about their opponent. Port NEches has one of the flag finalists as well.
  21. The regular season is over and the playoffs begin this weekend with first round games to be held in Nederland.
  22. Mosley did not take a beating against Central. I think he was in for maybe 2 plays before he was pulled. Bottom line was, he simply was not ready physically to play. Another week of rest should do him well and I expect him to be a go for MCM.
