1. A credible ranking of who really are the best teams, meaning if these teams actually played each other and who would win, the rankings are pretty clear already after three weeks of play. Four teams stand out among all others, and this opinion is based on what coaches say who have scouted games and watched film. PA Titans are the best team in the Triangle. No one in our area can beat them. Size, speed, and depth. That puts them over the top. WO-S Mustangs. The only team who has the speed to match the Titans and stay on the field with them. The Titans size and depth would allow them to overpower the Mustangs and that is understandable. Nederland. On any given Friday they could beat WO-S and they proved what they have by taking the #3 ranked team to the limit. They do not have the speed, size and depth to hang with Port Arthur. Vidor. On any given Friday they can beat Nederland and might do it next week. They run an offense fitted towards the talent they have at their school. Coach Matthews is one of the top 5 coaches in the Triangle and is building a consistent winner. Like Nederalnd, speed, size, and depth would not allow them to beat Port Arthur, and I think WO-S speed would cause them problems even though they to could take the Mustangs out on any given Friday. These four are clearly the best, but Port Arthur is clearly the best among the four for this season.
 2.
Ok roger korby since you know everything about football tell me y they shoul stay in the 3-4. You sit obviously don't diddly poo about football! To run a 3-4 you need a awesome nose guard that Kelly doesn't have! You need 2 linemen that r awesome that Kelly has teu choose not to play them on defense for some reason. Need 4 linebackers who r mad men and I'm telling you right now Kelly doesn't have 1 linebacker on that team so you sir don't know anything about football good try though
Thanks for the compliment about my knowledge of football, but I do not and have never claimed that. You may want to refrain from juvenile remarks like that. Kelly is using what they have at nose guard. You are assuming that they have a 330 pound monster on the roster to line up over the center. They do not, but they are using what they have. Coach Holmes will stick with the 3-4 because that is the system he wants to establish for the program. Very similar to what Coach Long did when he took over at Kelly for the offense and that system eventually led to a state championship appearance. There are bumps in the road right now defensively, but the coach will not throw in the towel after two games. What is needed to make the system work is certainly better understood by Holmes than by me and, based on your ignorant remarks, definitely you. Kelly actually has a very good senior linebacker who is being recruited by some major colleges and a junior LB who is leading the team in tackles and caused a fumble last night and a sophomore outside LB who will probably be a collegiate strong safety down the road.
 3.
Wow. Oak Hill. If they continue to recruit like that they should be competitive in all sports. I guess Kelly is changing. New coach. Recruit heavy. I'm anxious to see how this all works out in the upcoming years.  Back to topic. I hate to see a team that went to State with their own players, get beat the way they are getting beat this year. I really believe if Hartsfield and the staff would have stayed, it wouldn't be like this.
Kelly is not recruiting any players. A ridiculous and unfounded assumption on your part. As for the coaching, the coaches who coordinated the program last year and kept everything Coach Long had in place are still there, Rabb and Knowles. Jason Smith and Frank Middleton are gone and they did a great job last season, but Rabb and Knowles were the keys. You do not seem to understand how important the horses on the field are. Kelly is young and rebuilding, and the mixture of the remaining assistants and the new ones in place are going to bring the program back in the next couple of seasons. What happened last season was a culmination of what started when last seasons group were freshmen and being groomed by Coach Long's system. In addition, there were exceptional players on that group.
 4.
Yikes! Not a good sign. They won't win a game this year. I can't remember Kelly ever being this bad and they have more transfers for football than ever. How does that work? Is Kelly giving scholarships ?
To answer your questions: 1) Kelly does not give scholarships for students to come play football. 2) Kelly DOES NOT have more transfers for football than ever. That is completely inaccurate. 3) Kelly has been this "bad" before. Kelly is a private "2A" sized school. Athletic talent has a tendency to be cyclical at the school and last years senior group was a rare athletically-talented deep group. Kelly will probably make TAPPS playoffs in football next season and make a deep run the following two seasons and then take another dip down after this current freshman group graduates.
Talked to a friend this week that said coach stump was mad at coach Matthews last week for running up the score on them.  Just wondering how much difference there is in a 38 point margin and a 35 point margin.
C I support Kelly, but Coach Stump was not trying to run up the score last night. The kids at Kelly made some critical 2nd half mistakes that put BC in immediate position to score, and the last score came with the 2nd team offense running a basic option running play that Kelly did not stop.
 5. Suggs was definitely a good coach, but Kenny Harrison is the best coach the Titans have had in their 10 years as a school.

PA Titans 2. Mustangs of WO-S 3. Nederland 4. The Vidorians 5. West Sabine
??? West Sabine? Absolutely! Watch them play. Like Wo-S takes out the 4A's, West SAbine would do the same with 2A's, 3A's and some 4A's. Ask anyone who has seen them play and ask coaches who have scouted them. They have the horses; they are that good.

i know. i only put them in bold because the thread was refering to the big school poll.
If 3A's are included, then West Sabine belongs. This is a strong team.
 7. Man, was I wrong! My prediction before the game was WS 68 WH 0. I'll try to be a bit more accurate on my West Sabine prediction next week.

 9. Another special season is unfolding for the Titans. Their defensive speed will make it tough on anyone in their district playing against them. Coach Kenny Harrison has the Titans primed for another run that will see them playing in December again. Their defense is the key.
 10. 1. PA Titans 2. Mustangs of WO-S 3. Nederland 4. The Vidorians 5. West Sabine
 11. Oh my, the Mustangs have a sweet team this season. Their defense is the very best in the area outside the PA Titans.
 12.
What happened to Kelly?
Total rebuilding year after losing 19 seniors. No getting around that. Whoever made the comment that they need to get out of the defense they are running does not know diddly-poo about football. They have a lot of kids playing varsity football for the first time. This may very well be a rough year for them all season, but the experience gained will pay dividends for the next two seasons that follow.

4a vs 3a
Would NED beating WB this year be an upset? 4A vs 5A?  ???
Nederland would beat West Brook. This season they are the better team. Buddy, Jags over WO-S? You would not make that prediction if you have seen the Mustangs play this season. They have the fastest sideline to sideline pursuit defense in the Triangle outside of the PA Titans. Ask those who watched the game at PN-G last week. Upset for the week? I will take Kelly over BC in a tight one.
 16.

52-14 at halftime; that says it all. West Sabine can beat quite a few 3As in the SE Texas area and a few 4As. They are that good for those of you who have not seen them play. Barring injury, their run in the playoffs will be, at the very least, deep.
I think that depth might get them against those schools, but congrats on the win.
Depth in matters in the big games when injury or fatigue is a problem. The QB abd TB would start for teams in 3A, 4A and 5A. Those two are exceptional players. Their line has exceptional size for a 1A and can block players in the higher class sizes. Regardless of the classification, when you have talent you can play with anybody. West Sabine is the real deal.
 17. Will be tough for Central to score against the Mustangs defense. WO-S will most certainly score. Shutout is a possibility in this game. Too bad the Mustangs are not still a 4A team. The coaching at WO-S is as outstanding as the talent that is churned out of Orange year after year. Hopefully the district administration will be as supportive of the players and coaches as the school and community are. This is a special group this season.
 18. Saw the film of this game, and WO-S defensive pursuit is incredible. Only Memorial could handle them in this area.
 19. Proud of the Kountze Lions! Way to make a difference Coach Frank!

 21. Kenny Harrison is proving himself to be one of the top 5 head coaches in Southeast Texas. Congrats to the Titans. No rebuilding with Coach Harrison; just reloading.
 22.
I think you are off on a few points. What 4a teams around here could west Sabine beat? They might be a good 1a but I doubt they could beat many 3as. 600 yards rushing to 150 total yards doesn't sound like good coaching. Being a decent player has nothing to do with coaching either. If that were the criteria, they would have kept Frank Middleton. He really played in the NFL, I couldn't find Kerry Bennett on any Redskins roster.
I am not off on any points. I will not name any 4A teams because I do not want to offend any players, but I know talent when I see it, and West Sabine has talent. You are too caught up with their 1A label. If that meant what you think it does, Colt McCoy would not have been a star for UT and a NFL starter. Good coaching? Does that apply to every team that does not win regularly? West Sabine could beat Sabine Pass 160-0. They are both 1A. Your mentality would boil the problem down to bad coaching at Sabine Pass. Any sensible football knows that is not the problem at Sabine Pass. Frank is at Kountze because Frank wants to coach at Kountze. No one ran him off from Kelly. Of course being a good player does not equate to being a good coach. Holmes, however, is a good coach. Bennett signed with the Redskins but suffered a career-ending severe knee injury. He has done an impressive job as a coach so far. He will be a huge benefit to the program during the off-season.
