Houston and Setx falling way behind
PlayActionPass replied to Uncle Pig's topic in High School Football
Dude, you do NOT have to sacrifice one for the other. In fact, usually when you are successful in sports your test scores increase too because there is a positive moral around the school and the kids seem to take a little bit more pride in everything they do. -
That was very well said. And as a coach I appreciate the support. We do it because it is a calling. It is a lot like being a preacher. Lots of critics and people watching every move we make and every word we say. Perception is reality in our world and it is something most of us knew coming in. The bottom line is, as a AD/HFC you have be a politician to a certain extent and you have to be very aware of how you treat kids in today's society. Ultimately you have to win, or you lose your job. But, you have to win the way the community wants you to win, because you are an employee of the entire community.

Do you coach in HF?
-
So is the problem lack of leadership, support for other sports, scheme, overall coaches attitude?

That is a pretty harsh statement right there. What do you have to back it up?
-
Some bold statements right there with some serious allegations.

WB Coach's Reaction & UIL's Explanation

District 10-4A-D1 has it's own thread. -
WB Coach's Reaction & UIL's Explanation
PlayActionPass replied to BMTSoulja1's topic in High School Football
The UIL has a a difficult job and there is no way to make everybody happy. I'm sure all scenarios were explored and this is the only way they could get the numbers right and balance the districts. But as far as competition, this is a good deal for West Brook. I can see the Bruins competing for a District Championship and making a deep run. -
Yes, but they were all in a district playing against each other, they didn't get their door blown off until they got to the playoffs.
-
Beaumont ISD has done a disservice to the school, the kids, the parents and the community. The travel in the district they "probably" would have been in would not have been that bad. They would have replaced Navasota and the longest trip would have been Livingston. That is a trip both Ozen and Central have made numerous times.
-
My comment, you are crazy if you think a two round playoff team drops in classification and only finishes third in this district. Coldspring still has enough players to win this district.
-
Dude, don't sleep on Hempstead. They got better as the year went on and they have everybody coming back. They have some go-daddy's.
-
Ouch, ouch and ouch again.
-
This will be a very interesting District. Highly competitive week in and week out. Navasota and Silsbee have to be the top dogs initially.
-
May have something to do with the financial problems the District has been having. I've heard Magnet programs are a drain on the budget.

JEFF NATIONS NAMED NEW HC/AD AT DAYTON!

Has he decided what to do with the coaching staff yet? -
Hearing Barrier may be in line for a better gig than Garrison, any truth to the rumor?

Whats does Colmesneil have coming back??
PlayActionPass replied to jdb44's topic in High School Football
No, jdb44, the question was never answered directly. But, I do know they graduated 11 of 27 and the majority of touches on offense are gone. I know of both of the guys I think you are talking about and both would be great . They may be better that anyone that has ever been in Colmesneil. Not sure if either want to take on the daunting task of BUILDING a program from the sub basement up. -

I actually think the arguments for all involved have been supported by each others comments. We all know talent is necessary to win and especially to win championships. Good coaching can overcome some deficiencies, but not a total lack of genetic makeup. Great coaches can develop talent if given the amount of time necessary and great coaches can scheme and put the talent they do have in the best position to be successful. Now after watching some Colmesneil film, there was more talent on this years team than many are giving them credit for. -

Not really, but it easier to teach him to get in the way and sometimes that is all you need. And some of the best COACHES are not the winning-est coaches, this we can agree on. -

PlayActionPass replied to jdb44's topic in High School Football
That is very true. But part of the process is developing talent, putting kids in the best position to be successful, making the most of the skills that they do have and then getting them to give you everything that they have. That is coaching, coaching is not just X's and O's. -

Yes, Oldschool2, talent does matter. It is much easier to win with talent. Yes, talent beats coaching. We have all heard the argument and to some extent it is true. But, if you don't think coaching matters, then you are wrong. -

Not going to argue with you, but comparing high school football to the NBA might not be the best comparison. And to correct one misconception, Tyrone Swoopes went to Whitewright High School which has a similar enrollment as Colmesneil and they were still 1-9 his senior year.
