  1. Another awesome thing to read on this site today (the other being what Chester is doing for High Island) besides who is going to beat who and who is talking trash about someone else.  Wish I could have seen that.  It brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye to know that there is still some compassion in the world.  my deepest congratulations to the coaches of both schools.  Something like this puts a lot of things in the world in perspective.

  2. I haven't seen many replays of the blocked kicks that Tech has suffered but in my opinion, if you have two kickers and they are both getting kicks blocked I would look at the O line and get with the line coach.  Something is just not right and everyone else in the conference is seeing.  Now, if the kickers can't get it up off the ground then it is their problem, but BOTH kickers?  As a freshman, something like this can really get in your head, so I hope Carona is able to handle it and stay focused.  He has  along career ahead of him if he wants it.

  3. I have to say, I didn't give D'ville much of a chance at the beginning of the season.  I watched them play EC and thought they did well in spots.  They gave up some big plays though.  It great to see them pick it up after the EC game and get competitive.  Best of luck the rest of the way Pirates.  Buna is not going to be a push over by any stretch of the imagination but they are beatable.  Oh and by the way, that light pole will probably never get moved...I rememeber it being where it is as far back as 1985.  Every stadium has it traditions and stories, I guess Buna's has its light pole to be proud of!  LOL

  4. I agree with TheCardinalFan, inthis Kountze situation, one can only assume that the "AD/Trainer" was using his authority to get the coach to the sidelines.  Everyone sees an assistant coach go out and try to diffuse a situation like that all the time so there is no telling what they were talking about.

IF by some chance an AD (who is not the football head coach) is trying (during a game no less) to control the situation there are serious problems in that school.

  5. Budget doesn't have anything to do with hiring assistants.  Teaching jobs available plays an important part.  I have seen some ADs come in and have free reign to assemble the staff they want.  This may involve reassigning present coaches to lower (freshman or JV or even junior high positions) to make room for varsity assistants.  I have also seen ADs come in and the adiministration put a freeze on the staff, meaning no changes can be made for a year.  It just depends on the school board and admin and how bad they want a certain coach for AD.  e

  6. In grad school I once asked a professor what made a professional athlete's (let's use Ken Griffey Sr and K Griffey Jr for example) kid become a great athlete.  Was it his genetics or was it that he was around the game and its great players and their impact on him his whole life that helped make him a great athlete.  His answer was....YES.

I feel like you throw in some good athletes as well as a strong tradition and good coach and for the most part there will be success.  The parental support mentioned above is a definite positive as well.  That's why teams such as WOS, Newton, EC and several others are consistently competitive.  Every kid wants to play for his school's team.

When you go to a game and you watch the little boys hanging by the fence to high five the players as they run by and hear them talk about being a varsity player and going to the playoffs when they get to high school, THAT is where things all start to blend in and form a winning program.

Just my humble opinion, like everyone else.
