  1. Yea, I know Dick, I am just venting. This has been a burr in my saddle for quite some time. As for the Tigers being a KNOWN power, well I would have to regard them as one and I know there are others out there who think so too. What do you have to do to be a known power? Win State? There are several teams in the top 20 that haven't done that. In fact, several haven't accomplished more than Silsbee has since the Tigers dropped down to 3A. In the 3 years that Silsbee has been 3A( this is the 4th year), the Tigers have made the final 8( regional finals ) twice, and the third round the other year. Last year, many considered that regional final with Hardin-Jefferson the real state championship, they were the best two teams in the state. This year, with a record of 21-5, recently beaten the then #3 ranked team, and all 5 of their losses coming against state ranked teams, one would think that is enough to have a reputation as a year in and year out top 20 team. Also, Silsbee wasn't too shabby when they were 4A, I believe they were known as a very solid 4A basketball program. Like you said Dick, this poll isn't very accurate and has the means of being very political. It seems to be a " who you know " not " how good you are" type poll.
  2. Still no Silsbee in the 3A poll. > Just what do these guys have to do to get some respect? This is a complete joke.
  3. I finally have come to the conclusion that Silsbee is the Rodney Dangerfield of boys high school basketball. NO RESPECT!!!! How can they not be in the top 20 state polls? 21-5, just beat the then #3 ranked team, all their losses were to state ranked teams at that time. These polls are a joke!
  4. After taking care of my sick wife the last 4 days, I am back on the broadcast trail. I will be in Pear Orchard Tuesday night bringing you live broadcast of the Central-Ozen game. I have not been to Ozen ( I'm sorry, it's still good ole Hebert to me ) since they built their new gym. The last time I was there I had a Silsbee Tiger uniform on and we played in the old gym. I am really looking forward to this great matchup and truely believe we'll have another great game to broadcast as we have had all season. It's getting down to crunch time with just 3 games remaining in district play and there is still several teams that have not locked up a playoff spot yet. This is exciting times with some of these games virtually being playoff games themselves. It's do or die time now and I'll be there to bring you the games live!! C'mon out and see me tomorrow night, if not, listen to it live here on Setxsports.com. Central-Ozen, gonna be a good one.
  5. I am looking forward to the Silsbee-Lumberton game. Get to renew this rivalry. Also, I am curious to see the Silsbee-Diboll game, we have never played them. Jasper and Newton goes without saying, that's old hat there.
  6. On the positive side, you have to go with Hardin and it's very good play this year, beating Kountze and EC. Others that could be considered would be Vidor, Nederland and Newton. On the negative side, you have to start with PAM and the Brown situiation, with even 4 teams going to the playoffs, they may not make it, need some help. Also, you could throw LCM and WOS in the dissapponting catagory with their play this year. LCM still has a chance at the playoffs, but slim, many expected more from them. WOS, what do you say, 20+ losses, never saw that coming.
  7. Silsbee the new #1!!!!! I can live with that. Just like all the other polls, it's about when you win. Now let's see if they can keep that ranking. Good job! p.s. Probably could of gotten away with having Silsbee and HJ as 1a and 1b, but it's about the here and now.
  8. Brown will not play the rest of the season, including the playoffs IF they make it.
  9. Easy, it was a one game wonder. But, you guys did only beat them by 12 the first time. Since that loss to HJ the first time, let's take a look at just what Jasper has done since then. Lost to Silsbee 66-47 19 point loss that Silsbee was up by 27 with 2 minutes left, garbage time after that. Beat Kirbyville 51-46 in OVERTIME! A team that Silsbee just beat by 60 Beat Orangefield 72-60 Good win, game was in Orangefield Beat BC 69-61 JEEZ Silsbee beat this team by 49, 102-53 Beat HF 57-56 won it on a last second jumper,C'MON Tigers beat the Longhorns by 68, 106-38 Beat WOS 68-57 we all know that WOS is just not that good this year, Silsbee beat them by 30 both times Lost to HJ 87-80 Bulldogs played well in this one, but wasn't that much of a difference in the last game against HJ What I am trying to say is this, Jasper is exactly who we thought they are, very streaky but inconsistant team that doesn't match up very well with a team like Silsbee. Tigers will win this one by 13 or more unless like Tiger 12 mentioned, Silsbee has a terrible game, then it could be closer. Case closed.
  10. That doesn't make your district tougher. You could make that statement for a whole lot of teams by putting them in the weakest district.
  11. Nabors 23 points 12 rebounds Lamar wins 89-67!!! Cards picked up the pace in the second half scoring 57 points.
  12. 10 minutes left McNeese 49 Lamar 57
  13. 11:32 left McNeese 41 Lamar 52
  14. 45-34 Lamar 15:45 left Attendance: 5417 Pack the house night
  15. 17 minutes left McNeese 29 Lamar 43 Cards extending the run to 26-8
  16. Halftime McNeese 25 Lamar 32 Lamar finishes half on a 15-4 run Mcneese has 13 turnovers Lamar has 6 McNeese record is 8-9, 2-3 in conf.
  17. 1:04 left McNeese 25 Lamar 30
  18. 5 minutes left in the half McNeese 23 Lamar 25 Very low scoring, fits McNeese style
  19. Ashton Hall and Brandon McThay are not suited up tonight, flu.
  20. 9:30 left in first half McNeese 21 Lamar 17
  21. Pipe dream. Silsbee will make playoffs, count on it.
  22. Silsbee will handle Jasper like last time. The Tigers have always had the Bulldogs number when it comes to basketball. Silsbee 80 Jasper 67
  23. I guess it all depends on how you define " toughest district". Some would say a tough district would be how their 3 teams did in the state playoffs, if all 3 or 2 of 3 advanced deep into the playoffs. To me, that would be saying that district had 3 of the best teams in the region if not the state. Others would say a tough district would be where 4-5 teams are playoff caliber but only 3 go, leaving 2 teams behind who are more than worthy of a playoff spot. To me, that's what makes a tough district. Like 21-3A in football, you had 2 teams left out of the playoffs that if you put them in alot of other districts, they would advance. In 24-2A, you have EC, Hardin and Kountze, but after that, not much to brag about. Six of one, half dozen of the other.
