I would never want athletics to be cut, there are too many positives. I played sports and understand the good, but I don't understand needing an incentive to pass. Why can't a student just want to be a good student and complete there high school education?
Because we live in the real world and some kids just need that motivation.
So what motivation are 'those' kids going to have to get through college? Especially the 95% who don't play college athletics?  They really need to be able to pass because they want to do well, not because they won't play if they fail. How about parents, college, careers, where is that motivation? Or are we basically saying, "Man I can't wait to get to school where I can barely squeeze by just to be able to play my sport." Sounds lazy to me
Sports help build a foundation that will last a lifetime. Sports teach time management, goal setting, dedication sacrifice and so many other things that will serve you well in life.

Will win some games but not really pretty to watch. Does Lubbock have an indoor football team; if so this may hurt their attendance? Seriously his teams tend to resemble football teams, but they do win.
 3. Will he have to sign a contract??  ;D
 4. The one coached by my daughter!  ;D
 5. Balbay on the bench for far too long and  Hill was on the court for far too long. Barnes did not seem to be that interested in the game.
 6. Good head on his shoulders here is a quote. Freshman catcher Jacob Felts On his first game playing catcher: It is definitely hard to fill [Cameron Rupp's] really big shoes. I am going to step in and do whatever I can, try to be consistent, and do whatever job I need to do to help the team win.

HA HA Good group of kids and CODY is great with them, Wade however has to find a different hat this year . That Gilligan one is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!
Huhhuhhuh. Excuse me I didn't understand what you said! How bout them Tigers!!
 8. I was on the board when we merged baseball and softbal at Orange Youth Baseball Softball. The boys played Pony Baseball and the girls played ASA softball. I believe you ought to go to one of the ASA board meetings to get some "ammo" the benefits of playing ASA softball for area girls. We used to play a lot of interleague with Port Neches, Groves, and Nederland back in the day and the competition was always real good. Hope this helps.

 10.
CC has brought teams up there for the last few years and we have played on the ELITE fields in the past and done quite well. However you never know where you will end up. Last year GTS played on some of the no so good fields as well as OCBirdwell/Brown. I did talk to CC and he said the girls really played good and some got some good looks and some offers. Great JOB LADIES! I am just glad I did not have that LOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG drive home Sunday evening.
Yes, I saw you sharing some stories with some folks Saturday, but had to hurry back with a blanket for someone.  ::)
 11.

Pretty open statement there MJ, how did the local teams fair? Understand that there was 120 teams there. Did the Weather hold out okay for the Toury?
Crush (Harrell) girls played great ball this weekend, maybe some of the best ball I've seen them play so far.  The pitching staff gave up three runs total and the offense crushed the ball against some very good teams.   Orange Crush (Harrell) 10 – S.A. Cougars 0 Orange Crush (Harrell) 3 – Alvin No Fears Gold 0 Orange Crush (Harrell) 4 – LaPorte Storm Gold 1 Orange Crush (Harrell) 10 -  Texas Attack 2 The only problem, unless you were playing at the main field, (Heritage Yards) no college coaches really knew where the girls were playing.  Had one College coach show up at our field, only because she seen softball being played, pulled out her schedule and it showed that no games were suppose to be played at the complex, she immediately called her boss  and told him that she found another field where they were playing softball.   Another coach found us, because his daughter’s team was moved to the complex as well, having two of our girls signed to his program already, he watched our game and was really thrilled with the Crush program and was further please with three juniors on the team.  So it wasn’t a total bust for us, but it would have been nice for the coaches to know where the girls were playing, especially when a team pays $500 or $600 to enter. Some teams were trimmed down from 5 games to three and four games only, one team I spoke with from Austin, only had two games for the weekend.  Luckily enough they were able to gain two more for the weekend.
MJ, on your thoughts:

You have to prove yourself and playup to the main fields. Sometimes it takes time but it does happen.
The other thing is that you have to continually stay in contct with the coaches and tell them when and where you are playing. They have Blackberrys and such and will get your messages, even on the road, and will find you.
Lastly keep your head up, It's never too late
12. He kind of looks like Bo Pellinni and yes oklahoma still sucks.

Don't know why i got zapped but I got a lot to catch up on. ;D
Must have been something you said, oh never mind you would have been gone a long time ago.
 14.
My daughter is playing for the GT Shockers and just started in August with them as their catcher.  She has learned so much from Coach Trout, Coach Jimmy and the other coaches on the team. They have worked with her to prepare her both physically & mentally for the next level of college play.  I thought she was a good athlete and a good catcher, but they worked with her, changed a lot of things she was doing in her catching and batting, and WOW!  The difference in her abilities are almost like a totally different girl.  They have taken her athletic ability and desire to be better and channeled that towards becoming a GREAT catcher and player.  The Elite Showcase in Dallas this weekend was my daughter's first test of her mental & physical aspect.  She was tired, hurting, and aggravated but the Coaches didn't LET her give in to those factors.  By Sunday AM, she was better and more focused for it. She took everything they had to say to her, listened to the lessons they were teaching, and put it together.  The improvements I see in her emotionally and physically are tremendous. She is getting contacted by colleges and she is becoming even more focused on her future. She is a Junior and the only thing we regret is not going to the Shockers earlier!  I am sure that there are many coaches, all with different styles of teaching, in our area who could do some of the same things, but I am here to tell you that my daughter truly loves playing for the Shockers and their coaches!  They are definitely NOT easy to play for.  Coach Trout is very hard on the girls, but he pushes them to work harder and they are better for it.  My older daughter played college ball.  When she was being recruited, she thought her coach was the nicest guy she had ever met.......that all changed when she got to the school!  I wouldn't dare post what she thought of him after that, but she RESPECTED him and learned from him.  She has shared those thoughts with her younger sister.  College is a world where Mom & Dad can't fix the problems for them. They have to learn to handle every good & bad situation and learn from it. I think that Coach Trout's coaching style, as hard as it is, had already helped my soft & kind hearted daughter to toughen up some and be able to handle the college softball world that she wants to play in.  Coach Trout doesn't miss anything.  He is always looking for a way to improve the player.  He is always thinking and coaching.  Even when they do something really good, there is still lessons to be learned from it.  It is amazing to watch the girls rally around each other.  Especially when one is struggling and the coaches are on them.  The girls will be huddled around their teammate talking to them.  EVERY girl on the Shockers team has a BAD day, so EVERY girl has gone through the tough time when the coaches are on them.  They really pull each other together. GREAT Weekend girls!  I am so very proud that my Daughter plays with you guys!
Just had to comment to your post, it reminded me of something I used to tell kids. "The Coach that recruits you ain't the one that coaches you". All the girls that have gone off to college understand that one. The minute you step on campus the honeymoon is over.
 15.
Man some of you guys are comical. I don't have daughters so , I may not understand. But I work with someone who does have girls playing therefore I follow sometimes. I just come over from the football forum just to keep up. I got to be honest it is entertaining at times. Some of you need to get a life. Notice I said some not all. I have noticed one group that gets on here immediately after a tournament and mention how well they did or how high they finished even if another local team finished higher with no mention. There is another group that wants to be the premier organization , one that can compete with some of the better Houston orgs. But in reality I have only seen one group really do that(and i'm talking lately). That team was made up of mostly girls from one town ( yes, it pains me to say my arch rival  ;)). I even remember posts saying it couldn't be done with girls just from one town. Believe me I couldn't pull for them but it was fun watching them prove everyone wrong. Well anyway , thanks for the entertaing reading. I work days and don't get to see any soap operas. ;) :) It is nice to hear of the increase in girls getting scholarships though , so those of you who volunteer your time should be proud and commended.
I have to disagree with you on this one the GTS Shocker qualification for Gold Nationals is easily the biggest accomplishment lately, but like you said your not a softball guy and you don't understand the differences between the National Softball Organizations.
 16. I guess the bottom line is, it doesn't matter what initiated the change, the fact is a lot of girls are getting opportunities now. It used to not be that way.
 17. The creation of the GT Shocker organization has gotten a lot of local organizations to be more pro-active as it relates to college recruitment. That's a great thing and because of it a lot more kids from our area are getting a chance to play college ball. But as, has been said by everyone including Craig, a lot of people have gotten on board and because of this our girls are getting their chance. Thanks and Congrats to everyone that has helped. Too many names to name and I wouldn't want to leave anyone out. Also if talk to anyone who has had a chance to play at the next level, I bet they would be more than willing to pass on what they have learned. It's not complicated, but you can't know what you do not know.
