No way any of this is correct because this one district is impossible. First of all, for Joaquin to get to Groveton they would have to go through Tenaha, Timpson, Garrison, and not far from Alto or Cushing. All are 2A Division 1. Garrison, Timpson, Tenaha, and Joaquin will be in district together. Question is who is going to be the other teams?

Now remove Joaquin and that could be a district, but there is going to be another East Texas district that will move District 10 to Region 4 or District 9 to Region 2

  2. There are lots of schools in East Texas and DFW metroplex that aren't rich per say that have built or are currently building state of the art facilities....it's called prioritizing!

You might want check where they got the money. Crockett (I know),  I think Colmesneil, Rusk, maybe Teneha(they did have deep playoff runs so maybe not) got their new gyms from the government. They have to take hurricane victims. They were not the only ones that built with government money. If you get new facilities you get money from the government, have a large business(coal, oil, or technology) move in, or you make lots of deep runs in football playoffs. Bonds are a hard sell to most communities, it does happen, but not a lot of times. I know East Bernard tried to get new facilities after their state championship year and the school board told the coaches if they won with the old facilities, why did they need new ones? The bond failed.

  3. There is a reason the same schools are successful every year. It is not a fluke. By successful I mean on a state level...not a local level. Let's look at schools that are recent powerhouses. Allen, Desoto, Aledo, Carthage, Gilmer, Tatum, Mart, Teneha, East Bernard, Brock.

These schools are successful because of the amount of emphasis they are putting on athletics. State of the art facilities..gym, fields, track, weight room, library, ag shop, ...school in general. Plus they have high salaries for their coaches/teachers, which attracts the best in the state in that profession. So kids are learning more than anywhere else in the state. Plus they have more coaches than most schools...meaning players are getting more individual attention.

Those are important details. Just go to one of those schools...you'll see immediately what I'm talking about. It takes money and commitment. Don't get me wrong...I know that's an issue down here. Population growth is stagnant. New business and industry is slow..making it hard on school budgets. But it seems like schools aren't even trying. There is a sense of satisfaction with being the "best in the area". That's a joke. Setx hasn't won a state championship in what..10 years in any sport. Um...that's a problem. Especially since there is so much athleticism down here. Probably as many or more big time D1 commits in the smaller schools than anywhere. And no titles? Hmm. Most of the time a SeTx school loses in the playoffs as soon as they meet a team from out of the area. Exception would be WOS and Newton this year...who both lost to overall less talented teams in the finals. Is that ok? Small school teams with SEC commits in football should not lose.

I guess the way of thinking is "things have always been like this and it's good enough"..

Every school board in this are need to take a field trip to any school in the Franklin/Teague district. You talking schools with 1/3 of Barbers Hill student body with nicer facilities. Nicer. And people here think Hardin has a nice field. That's a joke.

You can't use that area as fair comparison. They have ungodly amounts of coal money. Know for a fact that several schools in that area had to spend the extra money or send it to the state because of robin hood laws. They built new facilities and raised the pay for everybody just so they could keep it. Don't think SETX can do that. I'm not from the SETX, so not trying to make excuses.

  4. when i added it up i used $5, 5000 people and 600 games.

that put them making 2,250,000 million.

so on a bad year they are making 2+ million for doing nothing.

i would like to know what the money is used for.

Don't think you are close on the 5000 attendance. 3A and down will never get close to that number, except at a state final or semi-finals game maybe. Coached a very good now 2A Div 1 and we never came close to 5000 even in the state semi-finals. I'm not a numbers person, but not sure that it would even average 5000.

  5. Shoot, check out there records as a 4A school back in the '90s. I can promise you football is not a newfound success at Carthage. They have been good for a long time.

90's would have been 15 or so years ago. Baseball team has been real good at least since the early 80's, maybe longer. And they have always had a football AD.

  6. Their baseball team was very good 30 years ago. And has been since. Probably was before. Most of their football success is fairly recent( 15 years or so). And no the AD is not baseball. A football AD doesn't kill a program. There are lots of good AD's out there. In 17 years have always worked for good ones. Lucky I guess.

  7. All sports should be given the best chance to be successful. But I will agree that some schools should have a football AD. I will use Carthage as an example because they are usually in our district.. Football is their main sport. The school and community supports nothing but football. Seems they win state often...so if it aint broke don't try to fix it.... Also depends on the tradition of the school....... Now using Silsbee as an example....The AD should be the one that's most qualified reguardless of the sport seeing that all sports excel...All sports should be given the best chance to succeed...which usually means no UOS... :D

Carthage isn't a football first school. They have been extremely strong in baseball for a long time.
