  1. Nash hasnt been able to win because he hasnt had anyone to help.  He had Amare for a little while and they went to conference finals two years, and some believe would have won it all if Donaguehy wouldnt havent cheated.  But think of all the players that Nash made relevant, Joe Johnson, Marion, Richardson, Amare to an extent (he hasnt been near as successful since leaving).
They have an article on the Internet showing stats of where these players were at and where they are now because of benifiting from playing with Nash.  Yall are crazy if you think Kyle LOwery is even close to Nash.  Nash is a top 3 PG right now at 35.  3and 4 years ago, he was the best in the NBA, 2 years in a row.
  2. Man, people dont give Nash enough credit.  The dude averages 16-17 PPG and right at 11 assists=22 more points (league leader at the moment), shoots 50% from floor, 42% from 3 for career, and 93 percent from FT line, for his career.  He hardly ever takes a bad shot and still puts up these numbers. Only player to be a 180 shooter for his career.  35 years old.  6 or 7 on all time assists and will probably end up 2 or 3 when finished.
  3. Nederland fans, take it as a compliment that so many people are talking about Nederland, no one would being saying anything unless they were doing good things.  No matter how good you are people are always going to talk about you, mostly because of jealousy, so take it as a compliment and ignore the rest.  I know it is tough to do, but that is what I would hope I would do.
  4. Aggies had the best scenerio.  3 teams at the most, but even more than that it should be based on the number of teams in district.  There are teams that will make the playoffs that have a losing playoff record.
Nash, you are correct too, it is a "leftist:" agenda where everyone can feel good, everyone gets a ribbon, that is how our society is becoming very very fast.
WOS, I agree too, UIL wants more of a cut and when you play more games you will have more money.
But for 3 teams to go to playoffs in a 4-5 team district or 4 teams in a 5-6 team district is wrong.
  5. Im sorry, I must have been brought up different than some others, but Houston Yates dont scare me or intimidate me at all.  I played against the best Houston had to offer for 5 straight summers and Im from right here in little old East Texas.
Yates is in for more of an awakening than HJ or Silsbee.
This reminds me of when I was growing up, and we would hear of a player from New York or Los Angelos, people would think and even college coaches recruit them on this basis, but when it gets right down to it, they are no different than me and you.  A friend of mine that played for the Detroit Pistons, told me I would see this and he was absolutly correct.
  6. Really a sad situation, this is one reason coaches are considering getting out of coaching for dealing with situations like this.  People can be more jealous, deceitful, self-centered, non-trusting, and cruel, than anytime ever before and effect so many people in the spin.  Sad.  God coaches, with parents and administration screwing things up.
  7. I know this changes the subject a little, but could someone describe the Basketball program at Nederland before Coach English, lets say the 10 years before he got there.  I do research on programs that have built themselves from the bottom up, and the outward appearance at Nederland is that.  Was Nederald very successful at anything?  What was the emphasis sport for Nederland?  Just curious.
  8. First in Indiana, they still do not have classifications.
Second, I think it is very resonable to think Nederland, maybe not this year, but with coach English building it the way he has, could win a State Title.  I have seen teams from West Texas at Austin, that the "buzz" in the crowd was how bad they would get beat, people picking 20-30 point loss for the team out of West Texas.  They would execute to near perfection, and flusterate the other team so much that they would give up.  This is not a single occurance, I have seen this many times.
  9. Shooting 22 percent is tough to overcome and normally a loss will result.  Everyone has games like that, you just have to either hope it is against a very weak opponent or not at a critical time in the season, such as the playoffs.  Nederland sounds like they had an off night, believe me, for anyone that has played basketball, can understand this happening on occasion.
I remember my Junior year, we were loaded, class 2A, ranked 1 all year, clearly had the best team in the state, could have argued the best in 3A, started 6'7" Jamie Kendrick (Baylor), Drew Henson 6'5" (pithed in college), Josh Jones 6'2" (ETBU DII), Clint Cover 6'2" (dang good shooter), Andre Austin 5'9 (played college football).  We had beat 4A and 5A teams all year, Region Quarter beat Paris 104-44, and the next game in Region Semi's we didnt shoot the ball as well as possible but not terrible, but they shot 72 percent from the floor and 31-32 from the FT line, and we was still in the game.  If we would have played them 10 more times we would have won them all, but that is HS basketball, the next day they lost to EC, whom no one thought would go to Austin.
My point is the nature of HS basketball, or basketball period when it is a one and done scenerio. A team can get hot, or another can have an off night.  Nederland shouldnt feel humiliated, they should feel fortunate that their off game was only a district game and wont effect them making the playoffs.
  10. Without a doubt, that is beyond noteworthy, but that is not the comparison that was given above.
But there is a difference between a team that goes from the BOTTOM with very low potential, and does what you have said, and a team that has the very high potential and does the same.
  11. You could actually make the argument on a program rebuilding standpoint, that Nederland's success(or any school that has done the same) over the past few years is bigger than a state tournament apperance by a school that is loaded for one year.  IMO it could be considered a tougher acccomplishment.
I really admire what Coach English has done against the odds he has faced and obstacles he has had to overcome.
  12. I know it is a little North, but is still East Texas, but at Troup my senior year we finished a 10-11 year district winning streak, right at 148 straight district games I believe without a loss.  The next year Troup was down a little and lost the streak.  That was 88-98 or 87-98.
They also at that time (I bet it is broken now) but they had the National HS most 3 pointers in a game certification, plaque and all, it was pretty cool.  I believe it was 23 (3's).
