  1. Well evidently there are some college coaches and people with doctorates that think differently.  Don Monson made the quote, he is the coach that put Gonzaga on the map, which many do not know, before he left for Minnesota and Few got the job.  Brian McCormick makes a good argument for the first part, I will post his article below.  To begin an argument by saying because you are not something you have no idea or have not been asked is small minded, most people, and I am in no way saying I could be a college coach, but some people dont wont to coach college, or do not know the people they need to know.  That is not sound logic.  That is like saying a person who has never played basketball can not coach or a person who has never operated on someone can not become a doctor or know anything about that field of study.  Here is article for you:
  2. Kountzer, you are correct.  High school basketball is losing all of the purity that it has, the charter and magnet schools and UIL and TEA not being able to be on the same page have allowed the AAU "characters" to come in a start a school around a group of kids or for a coach to pretty much say open campus. There is not purity in HS basketball and it will lose its allure as it has already done for some people that use to like high school hoops, and like most things I suspect it will run a cycle and something will happen in a few years to curve the way it is done now because you could easliy put an asterick by many of the State Championships as it has been the last 3-7 years.  High School coaches are worried about the purity of basketball in this state, which cause alot of quality coaches to leave or wait until the UIL finally does something.  Most know about Yates and Kimball, Triple A Academy, these places do not know what they are doing to High School basketball.  They will end up ruining basketball, when basketball was finally gaining a foot hold on football in this State.
  3. When I talk about Houston, I mean the Greater Houston area.  Not just inner city Houston.  It is all Houston to me whether or not they call it so.  It is one big town, you cant tell where one ends and the other begins.
Football will always be number 1 in Texas and Baseball is 2nd in Houston Area.  I didnt say I liked it, that is just the way it is.
Has basketball been on the rise in Houston and Texas, yes, over the past 15 years basketball has become much more prevelant.
Once again Dickie dosent know what he talking about.  He lives in his own little bubble reality.
  4. SXSW has impacted the State Tournament for some time.  I remember 15 years back when I was a kid and my dad took me, we stayed in the Omni downtown and I met Robert Duvall, Bill Paxton, Willie Nelson, and more.  We always had to book when we left the tournament for the next year and they were charging 250 a night back then.
I would hate to see it leave the Drum, alot of memories for me there, and being at State Capitol and in Austin always had the right feel, but if they have to I would rather see it moved to San Antonio than any other place. JMO
  5. You can learn alot about the character of a person by what they say.  Not reputation.  Character. (John Wooden)
Now character can lead to a negative outlook on someones character, which you have done to yourself.  In alot of ways you are your own worst enemy.

The racial crap is enough, there are players from all races of people who have been great ball players.

You dont see others on this message board constantly bragging about their accomplishments, their pedigrees, ect  in their life, although I am sure many have had quite a few in basketball and other things.  The insecure person is the one that will yell out his accomplishments, saying look at me, look at me.  The reason all threads turn to you DV is because you make them about you because you are really an insecure person.  You talk first and think later and that is not a good thing to do in life.
And no I am not going to discuss my accomplishments and failures, they have all been learning experiences.
I just hope you dont go on a coaching message board and act like this, the reception will not be good.
  6. People sense what they want to sense.  I couldnt believe that statement was brought up, that Nash was for South Dakota or thought there reasons for being ahead were because of race, that was a low blow that deserves an apologize.  South Dakota was playing more intelligent ball and Vermont over Lamar for that factor.  You can be a lay basketball fan and see that.

Dickie you remind me of this quote" It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt".
    Abraham Linocoln
And this was the most foolish thing you have said or insuated  on this message board as of yet, that your basketball intellect is higher than others on this board.  Anyone that has to bring this up is a very insecure person.
  7. Vermont beats Lamar 9 times out of 10 or maybe even 10.  They ran much better sets and played much better defense.  Lamar played too much 1 on 1 (aka real basketball)  and their defense was poor at best, or at least Vermont made it look very poor.  Will they get beat by NC, more than likely yes, because NC has both.
Your only argument against Larry Bird is Magic and Michael Jordan?  Three of the top players of all time.

  8. If a team gets a good shot from the player that they want then it is hard to argue.  But Yates does relies more on defense to create offense.  Please diagram or show me a set play that Yates or Kimball ran?  I would love to see it.

Basketball comes down to execution most of the time.  See:  Flower Mound    They ran multiple screener the screener and small on big screens.  They hardly ever played 1 on 1 ball, and defense was what they "hung their hat on".  Garland Namman Forest had 5 points in the first 14 minutes.  Fort Bend's #3 struggled all night.
  9. Dickie, from what I have heard from other coaches is that their opinion is that Yates does do a decent to good job, dont talk back to other players or refs, but do not run alot of sets and that could be because they rely on defensive pressure to get most of their points.  But to me they were not as bad as Fort Bend, Fort Bend played 1 on 1 all game and got beat because of that.  Same goes for Kimball.  That is why over the past 10-12 years you dont see alot of interest in 4a games.
The disgust with Yates and Kimball is how they obtain the players that we have, the head of Dallas AAU was sitting behind Kimball bench.  And we know all the stories from Yates.  The argument isnt that they dont play hard, or that they are not good, it is how they get players to their schools, which when you get right down to it, is cheating (if the rumors are true).

Dove, Marcus and Garland Namman Forest beat Yates by 15 this year.  And I also say alot of other teams that knocked on the drafted team's door in the program guide.
  10. I played 2A in the school year and played against the best AAU players in the nation during the summer.  To say small school isnt "real" basketball, is not very intelligent.
You could actually make the argument, except for Flower Mound in 5a, that 4a and 5a (this year)do not play real basketball.  No question tonight that Fort Bend had better 1 on 1 players and they just got beat by a team that sales out on defense and EXECUTES on offense.  Fort Bend never ran a play, and I wont even bother with 4a, that is such a disaster, both Kimball and Yates are known to gain players illegally and it looked liked an And 1 mix tape. The only good thing about that game was Yates got beat, but Kimball is just about as bad at recruitment as Yates.
Does the game speed up?  Yes.  Can some 1a-3a players play right along with them?  Yes.
I would say in 1-3a there is more stratagy involved than in the higher qualifications, except for Flower Mound, and that is why they have been there 3 years in a row and won it twice and there coach has been there 5 straight years.
And to answer your question of who people would rather watch, small college or large or NBA.  I know many people that do not watch NBA ball and would much rather watch the Division 2 and 3 National Finals.
  11. Dickie, I didnt say it was a good call or a bad call.  From the looks of it, yes it looks like a bad call.  But, being a conservative and having watched and know how the liberal media work, I can think past a 30 second clip with my own mind and see that there may not be enough information to make a conclusion.
  12. I usually side against the officials, but from this story there is not enough information to know what happened.  You cant watch a 30 second clip and understand the atmosphere for the 2 hour period.  It reminds me of the Republican candidate race and some of them showing a TV ad making the other candidate appear in a negative way when it is only a half-truth.
So I dont know if it was a good call or not, not enough info, but that is what yahoo and the media like to do, is get people "stirred" up.
