  1. yes KPark is decent at girls Cross Country;)  3A champs in 07, 4A champs in 08 and probably 09.  They did lose one of the their top runners to College Park but they can almost plug and play some good runners.  I like that they are in our district even though that bumped to 2nd last year in district.  To get better you have to face the best.  We are hoping to join KPark at state this year as the top 3 teams at Region move on.

  2. Tackles - Jaime Harvey would join Robbins at Tackle.  Victor Mamich also did well about the time Kenny came through and went on to  UH.

Guards - Jimmy Sylvia I think was a 4 year starter and went on to college

    QB - Randy McCollum

LB - Pete Garner from 80's

Bobby Steck I think was one of the fastest to come through and was a good running back in real old days.

Of the ones I've seen in the last 30 years I would have say Troy Hansen at Running Back.

Jabo is the real historian....He can probably rattle off top 5 at every position.

  3. The one from Lincoln I was thinking of was Ranysha LeBlanc

this is her state meet results from UIL website

    1998

    5th - 100 Hurdles

    1999

    Silver - 100 Hurdles

    2000

Gold - 300 Hurdles 41.29 4A State Meet Conference Record

Gold - 100 Hurdles 13.51 4A State Meet Conference Record

Silver - Long Jump 19' 05"  *Lost to Chandi Jones from Bay City an all time great.

    4th in Mile Relay

    2001

    Gold - 100 Hurdles 13.84

    Gold - 300 Hurdles 42.26

    Bronze in Mile Relay

    Bronze - Long Jump 18' 10"

  4. not sure about best female athlete to come through setx....someone by the name of Babe comes to mind.

Recent history, she has to be top 3 in area.  Lincoln had a great girls hurdler about 10 years ago with comparable times but I can't remember if what other events she did.  I hope Alex brings home multiple golds.

Anyone that hasn't ever been to Austin to see the state track meet is missing one of the best sporting events around.  I have been to College national championship in track, world series, basketball finals and many other events and I think I enjoy the 2 days in Austin the most.

  5. and those 2 did okay in the 300.

  6. It's wierd how they can't just put Regionals on the weekend that State is scheduled and move state back 1 weekend.  That would still give the 2 week + delay and not have anything going till May 11th.  I agree those not pushed at District or those that were being team players like Dooley and saving energy are getting messed around in the deal.  Here is a link to the memo.  Academic contests are also being hit....but the track is the one getting the worse end of the deal.

This is the hidden content, please

  7. I think the color of the headband/prewrap must match the predominant color of the uniform.  They added Black or Beige as being acceptable this year also.

Here was the updated ruling this year on it from UIL website:

Any item that goes around the entire head (elastic strips/bands, pre-wrap, headbands, etc.) shall

meet the rule requirements regarding color, maximum size, logo restrictions and team

uniformity. Black and beige have also been added to the colors a team is permitted to wear.

  8. Tiebreaker info....

We tied with Kingwood Park and C.E. King. Now we have to have a playoff and see who gets 1st, 2nd and 3rd seed to go to state playoffs. So, here's the schedule:

    Friday, February 13 at 6:00.

    BH vs. Kingwood Park

    at Dayton

(we're the home team and will be wearing white)

    winner plays

    Saturday, February 14 at 2:00

    winner vs. C.E. King

    at Dayton

If we win Friday and Saturday, we get the 1st seed...If we lose Friday, we get the 3rd seed...

  9. yes KParks team does return all of their players and BH returns all but 1 (and she was out last night) next year.  Both teams also have some good players on JV that will be trying to move up next year.

KP has a good post and their whole team is full of hustlers and they stripped the ball from us many times last night and caused many turnovers. I was impressed at how quick they got in our face when we received the pass.  As far as pure speed, they don't have a whole lot, but they keep their motor running at all times and that makes up for it.

Coach Gober had the girls ready to play and they handled the pressure better than us.

  10. Well King looked good last night in beating us at our house...but we can get them.  Their coach has been coaching a long time (400 wins) and does a good job in keeping them under control which minimizes some of our defensive attack.  I was glad our players kept fighting after King jumped out to a good lead.

so respecting their win I have to go with....

    King

    BH

Dayton - Will be very tough and they will be fired up for our game

KP - Coach Gober is very good and will have them ready.

but if King wins it won't be as an undefeated champ again.  Very tough team but with their star post leaving to go to Atascosita it brought their overall level down and I'm expecting the top 4 teams to beat each other up a little and the champ (or co-champs) may come away with a couple of losses.

  11. I would like to say thanks to BH146 for keeping the BH Sports Report up since 2001 and wish you a good luck in your retirement.  You helped mend my brothers and I when you were athletic trainor and you have kept a lot of fans abreast of sports activities at BH.  You'll be missed....though we know we'll still see you around with your camera.

A Time to Reflect, A Time to Say Thanks, A Time to Say Good-bye

In the summer of 2001, the idea of a sports website dedicated to the coverage of Barbers Hill High School sports began with the sole purpose of providing scores.

Oh my!  So much has transversed from that time.  A new school, a new sport, a move to a higher classification are a few of the major changes which were shared with a vast(?) yet unknown audience.  When the Barbers Hill Sports Report began, this site administrator did not have a clue of HTML , JPEGs or the use of video clips.  And my word, who could have guessed the firestorm from something called “a message boardâ€.

The vision was to provide a service until someone from the school could organize and implement a website that would give extensive coverage of all athletic contests.  I am sorry, I cannot wait any longer.  Well into its eighth year, its time to pull the plug on this website.  There are some who feel it is past time, wondering if the site is appropriate.  I can only say that the sole purpose has always been to promote the students at BHHS.  For those who felt otherwise, there was no intent for the material posted to be given in a negative light.  But on the whole, I have received much praise and graditude for the tremendous amount of time I spend in presenting information on the website.  To you, I want to say thank you very much.  Those words of praise have been the capital which has funded each year of existance of the BHSR.

Perhaps more than anything else, the decision to end the Barbers Hill Sports Report is based on the fact that I am retiring at the end of the school year.  I am not exactly sure what it is like to live on a reduced, fixed income but I do know it requires reducing expenses as much as possible.  Though eTeamz provides a free site, this site costs me money because of the way I have structured my site and the amount of data uploaded.  Photos and files quickly eat away at space.  And the site provides no income.  There are no stipends for running the website.  There are no ads.  As a matter of fact, I don’t recall anyone inquiring about advertising on this site.  Thus, there is no justification for continuing the BHSR.

As I stated before, I started the website for the athletes at BHHS.  But I must admit, I was the recipient of the existence of the Barbers Hill Sports Report.  I was challenged to learn much about the workings of the World Wide Web, applying media to my site and eventually the field of photography.

The desire of providing better than adequate photos for the site has led me into a hobby which will give me many hours of enjoyment during my retirement years.  Photography also provided a connection with many students whom I would never have met especially considering the growth of our school.  Hopefully this will be something I can continue with BH as long as I live in the area.

So as we begin the 2009 year, Barbers Hill will be looking forward to the culmination of the basketball seasons and competing in the spring sports.  And I will do my best to report the accomplishments be it varsity or sub-varsity squads.

Here’s to a happy and prosperous New Year!

  12. Region III's meet is Saturday in Humble (fast flat course).

Quite a few local teams and individuals are participating (I know I'm missing quite a few)

    1A Girls 10:00

    1A Boys  10:20

    2A Girls 10:50 Deweyville

    2A Boys  11:10 Deweyville

3A Girls 11:40 Bridge City, Hardin Jefferson, Hamshire Fannett and I assume Huffman (I know they are some very good individuals

3A Boys  12:00 Bridge City, Silsbee, Hamshire Fannett

    4A Girls 12:30 Barbers Hill

    4A Boys  12:50 Barbers Hill

    5A Girls 1:20

    5A Boys  1:40  West Brook

BC boys and BH girls made it to state last year and hopefully there will be more that make it this year.  There are also a few individuals who made it last year that may make the return trip.

BC girls and some of the Huffman girl individuals have a good chance to make the Austin trip.  Of course the race has to be run.  Teams usually need all 7 to have good races.  Our girls team came in last year with an outside shot and hit on all the cylinders at the right time.

    Good luck all.

  13. Hey the nome gym is one of my all time favorites.  Sorry to hear about the gyms.  I understand BH has a lot of damage to fieldhouse and the court there is buckled.  The middle school court and the high school auxillary gym also has floor damage and probably will need to be replaced.
