Season at a glance: The season started off with almost a complete new coaching staff.  A completely different offense was installed.  22 or 23 of the Eagles are underclassmen.  Three quality, but very different QB's fighting for #1 spot.  The pre-season pick for QB was overshadowed by excellent play from K. Denny who is a freshman and new to BH schools.  His dad is the new baseball coach taking over for long-time coach Gill Staulbaum. Receivers moved from the spread to running back and a few new ones stepped in.  Defensive leadership was found in Senior Bellard, and Senior safety Morton made a name for himself on both offense and defense.  Morton brought back memories of the Mason Fisher high-flying catches many of us remember.  The defense started off a little slow, however after getting a "beating" (as Coach Gage Put it) they played very good defense and allowed very few points the next several games.  Offensively they started out rusty, but still managed to beat Nederland, and ended up with only 1 district loss and captured 2nd place in district.  Should have won their first playoff game, but turnovers and a few really bad penalties kept them down, as had happened in the Dayton game.  A 3rd and inches play-call did not help matters either, but we all wished we had something back. Overall the team exceeded expectations by most. The future is bright for Bh with 22 or 23 returning next season, with most key players returning.  There are a number of players expected to step-up in the varsity role and a lot of very young kids who are already there.  I assume the offense will gain complexity as the kids get used to the basics and we will see more pass/run balance as the kids develop.  Experience, talent, and quality coaching should take the Eagles well into the playoffs next season.  The kids have really taken to this new staff and the staff seems to really be interested in the kids.  As it often is in Region III, just depend on who you draw and who wants it more.  Exciting times on the "Ant Mound"......."Bump"........"Hill".....or whatever you want to call us.
Well said JJ....very impressed w/ what Gage has done in 1st year. Equally impressed w/ how the kids responded to new coaches and change. Where are all the outsiders that thought BH was stupid getting rid of Price ?
Gage still has not done anything Price did. So, I am still not impressed. All you gage supporters will realize the mistake you made by getting rid of a coach like coach price. That is the problem  in BH, the fans run the athletic program. What I mean by that is, the best players don'y play but players who parents have the most money plays. That will never happen over here in Jerry's Program. Thats why we will put another 54-0 Whoooooopin on the hill next year for coach Price again. I don't have time to talk about this any more. We have more important issues to deal with like kp this saturday. So tell gage to come get a seat and learn what a 21 century offense looks like and not a ice age one.
I will agree with you on the community/parent issue. Too much input.....even in the interview/hiring process. That will have to change to move to the next level.....in my opinion. I will say that I think Coach Gage got as much out of his team as he could........
Not in my opinion .... there were a couple of players, whose names made the headlines a couple of weeks down the stretch that he had on the sidelines during the last quarter of the game ..... that's not how you win playoff games.  Agree completely with the parents being WAY to involved.  All District Picks were turned in last week, so we will see if he gives credit where credit is due or if the parents made that call as well. [/quote BH Football .... I agree, especially if you are referencing #34, #20, #85, etc ...... I never saw the coach reference any of them and I was seriously trying to figure out what the heck he was thinking during the PN-G game.  Those three players might have been recognized by the local paper (and even some of the competitions papers), but I never saw any write-up where the HC ever recognized them.  Morton was brilliant during the GP game and every game thereafter.  Newcombe was in the headlines a couple of weeks in a row.  Morton caused a huge fumble at the beginning of the PN-G game and then watched what BH fans hoped would be their first score of the night, fumbled in the redzone (once again).  Newcombe scored the first TD of the game for BH, has anyone seen the tackles that kid breaks and how he fights and picks up the extra yards when they are needed. Clay McDonald was huge in the 2nd half of the Crosby game ...... any many other games. These young guys, along with many other on that team are what carried this BH team all season and if it weren't for the local newspapers, we might have never known it. Bottom Line is ...... BH will not be able to compete with anyone in 19-4a as long as politics continue to "play a roll" in the "playing time" during the games... no pun intended. Review the game tapes from the Dayton Spanking all the way through the Crosby game and tell me which players truly stand-out.  It will open everyone's eyes to the true politics involved in the way the BH game is played .......  Seriously "Just Sayin" what so many others would like to say themselves.
 2.
Parents are involved alot for a fact. But changing the coach for bh was jus a excuse for losing I think..in 06 when price was still the coach the team was great the players were awsome after that it was sort of winless.. I don't think its so much of the coach for losing or winning its what the players bring out to the feild..now for the coaches they have to connect with every player on the team bring out the best in them (ex. Stewart) care about the players, teach them to better in every aspect of the game, how to show and play with heart on the feild. Price was a good coach to the players but could have done a better job by connecting with the players. Hopefully gage can provide that at the hill. Good luck to the eagles and all the returning players for next year!
I heard that Gage basically said in his "meet the coaches" that "he goes more by "what he's heard" (as it relates to his hiring policies) ..... It kind of appears that same policy was initially used on "who he played" at the beginning of the season ..... He tried to make McMillan a QB, I'm guessing due to the fact that he was available for Spring Practice versus his two best options (who were both playing Varsity Baseball).  I am not a Price supporter, but at the same time ..... why not look at the best QB for the position rather than trying to mold a good RB for the position ...... It wasted too much valuable time and I still think the best option for the QB position was never even truly given GAge's time ..... I know plenty of those parents, fans, etc ..... who watched any of the Sophmore or JV games from last season know what/who is being referenced .... The true question is does this coaching staff want a gifted athlete to make a choice between baseball and football ........ If they do, it appears that maybe Gage and his coaching staff just might be "rolling with the 21st century" vs the old school way that a lot of us experienced. In Texas, we used to play both sides during football season and didn't miss a beat between basketball, track and baseball season .... maybe the old school way is what we need to get back to and start worrying more about character and these kids futures vs how many state championships a coach can get in his career.
 3. Soooooo many NEW players in the headlines for The Hill lately ..... maybe they are 4 Real ???
 4. I've been a regular reader of these forums for many years, but after the ridiculous lack of acknowledgment for so many kids fighting and getting hurt on that field the last couple of weeks, I finally had to create the account and comment.  BH had so much talent being wasted on the sideline during the first game against Santa Fe.  There were a couple of kids that "got trucked" and should have been on the field.  During the Lumberton game, the same thing happened, at least during the first quarter and a half. How many fumbles did McMillan have at QB and how many did he have at RB ????  How many fumbles did the FB TRULY have?? What is amazing is that NO ONE has mentioned broken tackles .... How about the blocks leading to the Touchdowns or more importantly the numerous plays BEFORE those plays resulting in touchdowns ..... WHY ISN"T ANYONE BRINGING THESE THINGS UP??  ANYONE CAN RUN A K/OFF BACK FOR A TOUCHDOWN WHEN THERE IS AMAZING BLOCKING ON THE FIELD .... MY NIECE COULD'VE RUN THAT KICK OFF BACK DURING THE SANTA FE GAME ..... I hope BH Coaches wake up soon and learn to "eat their own crow" as far as the QB position is concerned; otherwise, it's going to be an UNEVENTFUL season all the way around.  (IE:  Baytown Sun Article Dated August 16, 2010:  "Last year’s running back Andrew McMillan, a junior this year, isn’t competing at running back because he’s taking snaps under center. It was McMillan’s speed that Gage likes in leaning toward making McMillan the Eagles’ next quarterback.  “He has great acceleration, and you need that at quarterback,” Gage said. “You don’t have to be the best athlete, but you have to have the impact, and you have to have some leadership qualities. You have to have some confidence. You have to be someone the guys respect a lot, so there is a little added pressure.” So, what now ????? Is it back to McMillan at RB??? TOO BAD they were in such a hurry during the Spring to make their decision on QB .... Had they have taken some time and actually looked at the other candidates, there probably wouldn't be any need to "Eat Crow" on their part.  Talk to the fans of the Sophomore and JV Teams from last year and see what they have to say about those QB's.  Check into game videos (there are actually a couple of them for the underclass teams) BOTTOM LINE, QUIT focusing on McMillan and Duke and start watching the plays by the other kids on the field. Don't even get me started on the Quality Helmets (vs the cheapest ones, which anyone attending the last two games and scrimmage have witnessed)?  What happened, did they sacrifice the overall well being of the players on the field for a darn tunnel?? Additionally, I hear "through the grapevine" that BH has a NEW "thing" this year, where they name an Offensive MVP, Defensive MVP and Special Teams MVP at the beginning of each week (following the game).  I would LOVE to be in the room when those kids are named, actually, I'd rather be in the room with the coaches when they are reviewing the game film to make that determination.  Heck, at least I would know that they actually watched the game video.  Although, I'd still be clueless as to the "chosen ones". WAKE UP BH Coaching Staff or you guys are in for a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT this year!!!  I only hope the talented players, who aren't mentioned or recognized during your weekly meetings, don't get so frustrated that they give-up all together. Please DO NOT make any snide remarks, unless you have watched the full game videos the last couple of weeks .... I PROMISE you will come to the same conclusion that we are all HAVING TO DEAL WITH.  JUST SAYIN .... the truth. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED FAN P.S.  When and where does the BH Booster Club meet?  Do the coaches attend the Booster Club Meetings?  If so, has anyone questioned the helmets or anything else for that matter?
