1. • 59% of high school football and basketball players believe they will get a college scholarship. • 98 out of 100 high school athletes never play collegiate sports of any kind at any level. • Less than one out of every 100 high school athletes receive a scholarship of any kind to a Division I school. • Nationally, out of every 100 9th graders, 68 will graduate from high school, 40 will enter college directly, 27 are still enrolled in college in their second year, and 18 will graduate from college. These numbers include all students entered in college. - US Dept. of Education Only 1 in 16,000 high school athletes attains a professional career in sport Hey but lets spend more money. With that being said, I think every kid that is able should play high school football. I learned some of the most important lessons of my life on Friday nights, but spending money that is not there for a championship that might or might not happen is ridiculous. It would be hard for a small town in any part of the state with declining enrollment, state budget cuts, federal budget cuts, and increasing costs to put out 130K a year for the AD and spend millions of dollars on new facilities.
 2.
Last night should've shed some light on several people in this area. Schools from this area can't compete with schools from other parts of the state. Schools down here are not willing to do what it takes to win. It takes money. Why do you think certain schools are ''elite'' every year. Carthage, Tatum, Mart...the list goes on. Find out how much money they pay their coaches. The facilities they play and practice in. The number of coaches they have. Its no secret to the success. Last night the prides of SE Texas got embarrassed by schools who simply do what it takes to win. Navasota had 19 varsity football coaches..WOS had 9. Compare the money spent on facilities. Silsbee was recently beaten like a dog by Carthage. Carthage just passed a bond...strictly for football...on the biggest jumbotron in the state high school or college. They pay their A.D. over 130k. That's a school willing to do whatever it takes to win. Face it..if you don't do that families/kids will not move to your towns, top coaches will not work at your school, and you have no chance at winning football state championships.
I don't know where you are from or what you are smoking, but that was probably the dumbest remark I have ever read. To start with lets look at Newton. I was born there, and live there. The town supports the team and the coaches. They are in the hunt for a championship just as often as schools that pay out the butt or have state of the art facilities. Furthermore, people like you are why a growing number of the population dislike football programs. A lot of those state of the art facilities and paying a coach a 38,000 stipend for coaching football makes people mad. It is wasteful and unrealistic for most places.  The teams that continually win are usually the ones that the coaches are allowed to do their job and are not constantly bombarded by people trying to do their job for them.  Another thing is that winning is a tradition, once it is established the kids believe in the program and it makes the coach's job a lot easier.

How much time will Coach Barbay be given to turn Warren around?  It doesn't look very good at this point.
You could have Tom Landry back from the dead go in and coach the warriors and you would still get the same results they have gotten under Barbay and previous coach Ramsey.  Warren is in a district where they have the least talented team and very tealnted district.  Do you honestly think Warren will ever be able to compete with Newton,Anahuac, or EC?  Even Buna?  or Hardin? Can't blame the coach always.  You still have to have the tools in the shed to do the job.  A good carpenter has a hammer and nails right?  Samething in coaching.  No talent...very little chance of success! JMO
Talent comes and goes, Kirbyville is a good example. I remember at times Buna and Kirbyville went winless in district play. Both of these teams have had some recent success ( last 10 years or so). I also find the statement about talent to be funny, of course you need talent to win, but talent can be overrated. Sorry to use another kville example, but they were definetly the most talented team in the two state playoff games they were in. Blame it on coaching or choking, but if talent was the key to winning they would have had two championships. As for winning against EC, Anahuac, and Newton, the Warriors have beaten each of these teams in the past, some of them a long time ago, proving my point talent comes and goes. To be successful someone is going to have to come to Warren and get the community to buy into the program and support it, and most importantly stay there longer than 3 or four years.
