1. The 'Cats have some serious young men on defense especially in Breed and Tyler so  I do not see Vidor running the ball. I have not seen them play but it has been said that Vidor's passing game is struggling. Tonight will not be a good time to try to "gel" hopefully that has taken place in practice for them this week. I will say politically correct or not.... I think its gonna be Ford and Co. all night! Three good backs a developing passing game, solid D. I could be wrong but I see Kville all the way! Kville more than 40 Vidor less than 14
2. The 'Cats just need to play their game. Kirbyville is a second half team and fresh legs or not I think Vidor will be the ones that will get wore down. I think you will not see as many substitutions from the Pirates side as people are expecting simply because they are going to have to keep there best in the game especially in the first half. As Vidor moves deeper into their roster they are going to lose speed, size or talent.  It may come down to who can take the fight out of the other team. This is not the game to play flat or loose confidence. If either team drops their head and gives up even for one set of downs it could go real bad. I would expect Kirbyville to try to jump out to an early lead to try to break the Pirates spirit. Vidor has what it takes to make this a great ball game. Good luck to both teams
3. I like to read these threads. Just for fun. I like high school football, love the fans, the rivalries the loyalty and even the smack talk. There are some good knowledgable people on here that can hold their own in a heated football debate. Then there are "the others". It just seems like some people are just on here to try to start mess. If you like football and want to defend or promote your views, opinions or feelings, Great! Why does it have to degenerate into personal attacks and stupid petty comments. Cant we all just get along and talk a little football?
4. Newton is a great team with a lot of talent. Anyone can have a bad night. I am sure that Barbay has had a chance to make adjustments and get their mind right. There is a lot of pride in Newton football and they will not want to get another L. Good luck Eagles
5. Seems that more than Newton had that problem. Not much to coment on not knowing who he is refering to. If it was my team I would say go back to the basics, give the boys something to focus on and the coaches need to man up and lead the team by example. Newton, Vidor who ever, both good teams with good coaches just off track a little.
6. The seating in Kirbyville is TERRIBLE! We keep season tickets and the seats are so narrow and no room to get by so we buy 4 seats for 2 people. People think Kirbyville fans stand up the whole game because they 're excited. WRONG! Its because the knees of the people behind you kill your spine! Love to have seen them add some high end seats when they added the new press box. Seat backs, arm rests and drink holders. I would have spent what ever it cost and I am sure a lot of others would have too.
7. I have not done this before so I am not sure if I am doing this right Here are some Ford clips. [Hidden Content]
8. I heard a lot of complaints that they were Orange-red too. Everyone liked the black home jerseys. The whole back in black, be afraid of the dark thing played well. Not that it matters in the long run people just dont like change most of the time.
9. MAN HAVE I BEEN FOLOWING THE WRONG THREAD! IT'S GETTING KIND OF HEATED ON THE VIDOR SIDE OF THE FIELD!   I think ole' Gilbert Grape here is just guilty of not being careful about how he states "the truth". Nothing wrong with speaking your mind but man..... Don't bash a kid by name. Yes I think your right no matter how much a team runs the ball, what ever the offense scheme, if you don't at leat have a threat of the pass it hurts your running game. If everyone can just move up to the line and grinds it out one inch at a time it does't take a lot of defensive planning. Kirbyville is a running team but we benifit from airing one out now and then no doubt about it. Be a fan and speak your mind but remember no one wants to hear that negative stuff. You said the boys read this and see what they need to work on. Would you want to see your wife or boss or mom bash you to tell you what you need to work on? You have some good points just tone it down and make positive suggestions. Truth is no coaches give a rip what you, me or anyone on here says. Its for our amusement only. So with that being said I hope Vidor give us a great game, I hope we beat the brakes off of them anyway and I hope Gilbert finds an outlet for his frustrations befor he implodes! good luck to all of the Vidor players Friday.
10. I would not be suprised to see a little change it the game plan this week. It seems that they have been expanding the O a little each week. They did not realy come to life in Coldspring until they passed a bit and spread the D out a little. The pass from Cucancic last week worked good. A little screen passing to any of the backs would get them out in the open and everyone knows that any one of the three is dangerous on an open field run. I also see very little written about Jones. It seems there is so much talk about Ford and a few others that people forget if Jones does not keep it together the cats are in trouble. Give Jones some love sometime! Everyone loved the Hazelwood boys and I'll admit that I thought we were doomed when Aarron graduated. But with little fan fare Jones has kept things going in the right direction. I guess a true team player does it because he can not for the glory. I'd just like to see him get the respect he deserves.
11.
I am hearing from reliable sources in our football program that the goal is to be up by 6 TDs by halftime. They were told that if they did not humiliate Vidor then there would be a price to pay  the following week in practice. I don't agree with the humiliation bit. I was making some bold statements earlier this year about Vidor vs Kville and I still beleive it will be a blowout but in a weird way I feel sympathy for the Vidor palyers with being so young , small and having lack of experience. Why would you want to humiliate them ? I don't want my kid to be taught that way. Good luck to both teams.
As much as I would love to hear that Alverez is being more agressive (I love a get spitting mad on the sidelines coach). I would HIGHLY doubt that he would demand his team to "humiliate" anyone. He has way to much class for that. He always wants them to do their best, keep mistakes to a minimum and keep with the game plan. If nothing else He is way too nice! We ve had bad calls and cheep shots that he SHOULD HAVE LOST HIS MIND OVER and he is as calm as if he was in church. So I do not believe a word of it. If they were to ever get ahead by 6 TDs in the first 1/2 on Vidor or anyone else. You can bet he will call of the dogs because it would be STUPID to risk the health of your players just to make a point and what ever Alverez may or may not be.... He is not stupid. I do see him agressively reminding the boys what people might say about a true 2A team's chances against a 4A team. A little poking at wildcat with a stick to get their hair up. But he would never call for blood.
12. Sorry Lefty was not trying to quote you.  ;D
13.

I don't know on this one. With Vidor being a 4A school, and Kirbyville being a 3A. All I can say is that it will probably be a close game. If I had to choose one though, I would choose Vidor.
BC is 3A and even though I am sure they have more players than Kville it is nowhere near what Vidor suits up.  Kirbyville wins this game.  Not because of the reason everyone would expect....i.e. Ford an Co.  Rather, because of their defense.  I know that they hung with Texas High and almost won but they have no defense and I highly doubt they can stop the running machine that Kirbyville has.
This is the same old song and dance. Yes Vidor will probably suit up 60 boys and out of that sixty half will never see the field except from the sideline. Now your down to 30. Out of that thirty half will have a lot of heart and will do all that they can for thier team if it means sweating blood but will not be the "top" players. Now your down to 15. I'll wager that out of that top 15 (or the 17 you say we will use) all can keep up with Vidors top 15,  but only half of those boys will be legitimate playmakers every game so now were down to 7 or 8 players that will make things happen. Bring 100 if you want it will still come down to the boys  that have done the work and that have the heart and talent to make it happen. And as far as keeping fresh players on the field..... The 'Cats are very used to playing both ways if needed and if you think just keeping any old "fresh" player on the field will do it mabey a long night for the Pirates. Bring your best, play your best everyone else is just filling up the bus. I wish Vidor all the luck in the world and if they beat us straight up thats fine. I hope we could learn something from it. But if the best plan they have is just "We have more players than you." I think they will fall very short.
14. I will be honest. Because of scrimage info I was not the least bit worried about Vidor until the Texas High game. People had to give Vidor a second look because although T.H.S. is not a team anyone here would regularly follow all reports were that the Pirates looked good. After all that I have read (mostly from Pirate fans) it seems their powder is wet and ship is sinking. Anything can happen on a given Friday night and I sincerely hope Vidor has a great week of practice and shows us how they can realy play ball. With the Cats D on fire and the offense expanding to a 3 man show in the backfield and the ever present threat of Cucancic pulling one out of thin air I have to go with Kirbyville big. Kirbyville more than 40 Vidor less than 10
15. Just wondering what has happened to LOCAL rivalries? When I was playing a 40 minute bus ride was a long road trip and we had a cooler in the back of the bus for the sandwiches someones momma made. Now school has to be let out early, the team (and band) have to stop halfway and get something to eat, Charter busses are needed sometimes. Should we get a hotel or drive back after the game and get home at 2am? All of that is bad enough in the play offs but for a regular game? Come on, Vidor and a team from Texarkana? Kville vs Wills Point? Where the heck is Wills point? Part of the love of High School sports is the bragging rights and smack talk. At my job we have ex players from BC, Vidor, Central and so on and every week is a strole down memory lane back to glory days and a chance for a little hometown pride. All in good fun of course but lines are drawn and chalenges thrown down so dont even think about disrespecting my team! LOL. It seems these road trips are getting longer and longer and IMO any team you have to meet in the middle is just too far away!
16. Being from Kirbyville I have heard alot of talk about how Kirbyville will not be able to repeat the success of the past few years because we have moved (back) up to 3A. As Kirbyville fans are quick to point out we were 3A in the past and it is not new to the team. This is NOT what this thread is about. I am looking for thoughts from real football fans on a realistic level. Not blind ramblings of hometown fanatics. That being said..... It seems that the general thought is that a 2A team is somehow less of a team because most of the most "talented" players have to play both ways which at a glance seems reasonable. 3A is more challenging for a smaller team moving up because they lack "depth" in the line up. But there is a REAL WORLD, PRACTICAL reason that I dissagree with that logic. In keeping up with not only Kville ball, but all of great local teams posted on this forum one thing is always true and always will be. Mabey five players make or break the team. It takes the whole teams effort but a small number change the tide. Let me take two players of my choice away from any team out there and I can hurt their Friday night performance no matter how big they are. Thats why one injury of a key player can hurt a whole teams chances. (Keep following me I promise this goes somewhere.) No matter what team we play, weather it is a 2A team or a 4A team the compitition ends up playing its very best players to match up with our best players. You see the same young men on both teams on almost every play. You here the same names until you know the opposing teams standouts as well as your own. Its no secret who our star players are and right now Vidors coaches are (or should be) making adjustments to compensate for it. Who is fast enough to catch Ford or Haywood in the open field, who is physical enough to cover Cucancic, who can block Tyler or Breed? That coach is going to play who he has to trying to win and that means SOMEONE IS GOING TO PLAY BOTH WAYS WEATHER THEY DID LAST WEEK OR NOT. At least our guys and the rest of the iron men of small town Texas football have the conditioning and aggressiveness to do it not just this week but every game. They do it from Pee Wee through Varsity.  Now my theory goes to hell If we have to move up to 5a. But even then with some of those teams might not have the "Depth" to handle a State ranked 2 or 3 A team. I would have bet money on Muleshoe against just about anyone. My point is simply this... when you get right down to is even if your 3A or even 4A  and you have twice as many boys to choose from You still have to match your opponent man for man and some talent is hard to match. Thats why they get the scholarships, the respect and the recognition. You see the same 25 boys names on this site every week no matter what thread you read.  I know its a team sport but at ANY level the chosen few make or break you. Any thoughts.
17. Can someone post the stats from the Kirbyville / Coldspring stats?
18. I think the cats go in with a slight edge just because it will be Newton's first game. Kirbyville got off to a good start and has a week to work out a few kinks. That being said Newton is always one of the better games of the year just because of the level of intensity that both teams bring to the table. They both realy want to win braging rights for the year. The cats have alot of the rivalry type games this year. Nobody wants to lose to Jasper and the WO game will be one to watch. A great line up but the Newton game never lets you down! Good luck eagles but I think the cats take this one. Kville 35 Newton 14
19. The defense had a FANTASTIC game! Second half the cats' O looked like they were starting to knock some of the rust off. As for the rest of the season.. As much as I  love to watch him run it can't just be the Ford show. He has got a lot of talent but he is a marked man if our playbook consists of #1 to the left, #1 to the right, #1 up the middle. It's not productive and it is just going to get a great athlete injured. The second half Alverez opened it up more with the pass and let a few other backs get a hand on the ball and things started to happen. There is no doubt that Ford is one of our key players. I am just saying, give the guy half a chance to perform like we all know he can. Also what happended with Cucancic? He blocked tons, made one key run but he was not utilized like you would expect last years district mvp. As for little Will Tyler. The young man was a machine last night. Great seeing him on offense. With his speed(for his build) strength and agressive style he could soften up a defense so that our shake and bake runners can pick them apart. Put the ball in his hands and the D wont have to come after him, he will be heading straight for them. LOVE IT! Way to go cat's you made us proud.
