  1. Pet peeve....when Bands play while their team is on offense. I attend a lot of Katy games.....everyone sits and makes no noise while they are on offense. On defense...it's crazy....then the opposite side of the field is like "Hey...we can get loud too...watch this"....meanwhile....an offensive lineman jumps early. I love a band that's in tune with the game...not just playing to be playing.
  2. I also coached little league football.....NEVER AGAIN.....it was never about the kids...it was about Coach A and Coach B being rivals when they were in HS and wanting to beat each other....it was single mom's looking for father figures.....taking the best players putting at QB, all the others on the Oline so they can meet their quota of playing time...etc...not saying ALL leagues were like that....but I'd never do it again
  3. I love HS football....not as much as I USED to, but I love it.....it used to be pure and everyone played for the love of the game.....it used to be my side of town, vs your side of town....east vs west, north vs South...etc.....lots of passion and bragging rights. We could go to the mall, get into with some guys and no one would get shot....it would be "We'll see you on the field"...Today we live in an era where kids feel entitled and parents hover like helicopters...Jr, to them is the best player in the world. Katy has lost a few players so far this season because "daddy thought Jr should be getting more touches" Those who come close to fighting....well, I Think they have other issues. Some of the guys on the 6A board, I have to remind that these are KIDS playing a game.....
  4. I remember that...Saturday night game, threat of weather/storms kept a lot of people back...weather turned out perfect right before kick.....pretty sure PNG didn't have as far as a drive.
  5. I'm around these guys daily......they are trying to write their on chapter in Katy history....very hungry and don't like the fact that they were written off after non-district play.
  6. In other words, I would have been more concerned about this team if they would have opened the season with Kingwood, Travis, Alief Elsik etc....winning every game by 50. After last seasons epic team, they would have had a false sense of confidence and would've laid an egg their first tough game in the playoffs......They will go into the playoffs 8-2 and VERY dangerous if they stay healthy.
  7. Only team I see playing with them RIGHT NOW in D1 is Dickinson.......but all that could change come playoff time.....
  8. Katy will be fine.....opening the season AT Westlake, vs Klein Collins and at the Woodlands is like opening the season with Regional championship, state semi's....and state finals. They are still looking for the right combination on defense.....I wouldn't bet against them come playoff time. Westlake was a D1 finalist....still undefeated vs Texas Team...lost their 2 offensive weapons in the Katy game....lost without them to a team from Nevada Klein Collins hammered everyone's Region 3 favoriter Lamar Woodlands beat two state champs back to back(Katy,George ranch) This non district schedule will help Katy in the long run.
  9. Badie has a horrible throwing motion....WR's were open all night but constantly had to come back to the ball.....that actually cost them on the last 1st down attempt.
  10. Trust me.....when I was at Reagan there was really nothing to brag about. So State finalist in 1920(0-0 tie) was a badge of honor for us lol
  11. Maybe thats when they changed the name....it was Houston Heights before it was reagan. [Hidden Content]
  12. Pretty sure it was before that....they went to state in 1920
  13. They tied for a state title in 1920......Dan Rather is an Alumn
  14. Westfield's "weaknesses" are the QB and DB spots. Don't think Trinity will toss it around much....plus traveling on a Friday....Westfield has a chance....as slim as it is.
  15. They bused us in from 1st Ward, the West End and 4th Ward to go to Reagan.....certain parts of 4th Ward(Near Montrose) also went to Lamar. Honestly I don't think Reagan is at the level of CROSBY yet in terms of football despite being 6A. Maybe "Heights" can prove me wrong......I wouldnt be mad about it either lol
  16. They have an Awesome, player friendly coach who goes above and beyond to get his kids noticed and recruited....but they aren't at the "Lamar" level yet.
  17. Reagan...err Heights HS....I played for them in the early 90's(Showing my age).....LAST years team would've kept it.......within 21 of Crosby....this team isn't as good as last years. Crosby wins going away. Like all HISD schools not named Lamar....they struggle vs non-HISD Schools......losing to the Strake Jesuit's, Katy Taylor's FB Travis' and other 4th place teams in the area.
  18. Not surprised at this outcome and actually this is the BEST thing that could have happened to this Katy team. Following what many said was the best HS team ever...this team could've had a sense of entitlement.....road the coat tails of the 2015 team...and a win over Westlake, they would have really thought their sh!t didnt stink.....this was good for them. 3 hours away, vs a GREAT QB, a GREAT coach vs a team that was a state finalist last season and many predict them to be back this season, Katy took a brand new secondary, a QB that had minimal varsity experience and a soph RB....and lost by 3. They got punched in the mouth early....dug themselves out of a hole and eventually got the lead back....never quit...that was a positive to me. They didnt win, but this team will be really good....don't sleep on them. Westlake on the other hand will go as far as Sam Elihnger takes them....he's the real deal. One of those once in a lifetime ball players...Vince Young, Johnny Manziel, Russel Sheppard etc......they didnt leave unscaved though....tore meniscus in both knees.....he has to finish the season for Westlake to make noise in the playoffs.
  19. Miami Booker T Washington beat Cedar Hill in 2012... I think
  20. Truth. I know a lot of players that go to the Lab. Former RB Donovonn Young is now back in Katy training kids as well. These kids are dedicated They have 300 kids show up to player led workouts...they don't go on summer vacations...etc. They have nearly 500 kids in the program, that's why I never buy into the "D1 vs D2" thing. Totally enrollment means nothing if you don't have boys in the football program. I've seen D1 schools with less than 50 players on the varsity roster....Katy will have 89 SENIORS ALONE....on the Varsity Roster that will be around 105. These kids grow up wanting to be Katy tigers. However, they way Katy is growing, the Dynamic is changing....kids that didn't grow up in Katy...are now playing in Katy and contray to popular belief, HS transfers don't usually make it at Katy and end up leaving or going back to their original school or ending up at Morton Ranch or Cinco Ranch. I can thing of maybe two transfers that made an impact at Katy after playing varsity for another HS. Donovonn Young(Played as soph at Humble before coming BACK to Katy) and Isiaiah Brown(played at Judson as a soph).....Stud athletes don't like having to COMPETE with Kids that are smaller, slower, less physical underclassmen. These players know their role in the Katy system. A kid that runs a 4.8 and knows what he's supposed to do is better than a 4.5 kid who does not.
  21. Tell that to the baseball team that had to forefit all games because a "violation" that will be taken OUT of the rule books(no longer against the rules) when school starts in 3 weeks. UIL made the right call for Katy...AD was at fault. Katy got probation....and if that's not enough...the kid they are on probabtion for has since changed schools AGAIN lol
  22. Clear as day....4 years of eligibility are up. In terms of "Pull"....I think Westlake and Dodge have waaaayyyy more pull than Katy. Imagine if Coach Joseph had a "Coach Joseph RB Camp" in Austin and Dallas and stud RB's dads all of a sudden got jobs on Katy's staff.
