Maybe they are talking to a NAIA conference. GAWD, No way would the WAC allow a member to play a NAIA or at a FCS. Is this Lamar saying no FBS?
Lamar and SHSU to the WAC in 2013!
And where did you get THAT information? I feel like there's a new WAC comment every few days.
Just having fun.  But there's some good threads over on bobcatreport.com talking about the WAC, SBC, SHSU, LU and other related stuff.

 3. Langston bailed on Lamar so this was a last minute replacement team.  Langston will have to pay Lamar $100K for cancelling.

if texas st finishes with a RPI in the top 35, and wins regular season conference and then someone else wins the tourney they will get 2 in...
A few years ago, TSU won the regular season, and SHSU won the tourney, both teams went into the NCAA tourneys.
The SLC is a top 10 conference in baseball.  They should be getting at least 2 teams into the tourney every year.
 5. Interesting....
The contract lets Lamar back out of the deal at no cost if the school is reclassified to the Football Bowl Subdivision before June 1, 2013. The buyout otherwise is $500,000. Lamar is currently classified as a Football Championship Subdivision school and a member of the Southland Conference. Lamar coach Ray Woodard said he does not know of plans for the school to change conference affiliation.
Why even include that in the contract if Lamar had no plans to join the WAC or Sun Belt in the near future?
 6. If Pat Knight can get Lamar in the SLC tourney every year it'll be a bring improvement!  But Lamar's my team so even if they suck again for the next 5 years I'll hang in here and get excited when the next coach is hired.
 7. Buzz Williams offered Roc a job last year.  He'll end up somewhere.  Some guys are better suited as assistants than as head coaches.
 8.

Pat Knight: HE'S AWESOME BABY!
::)
Come on bluedove, it's time to drink the kool-aid!  :D
 9. I think Lamar plays Oklahoma State in 2013 and Texas A&M in 2014, not that playing OSU will be any easier than playing A&M!
 10. According to the Beaumont Enterprise:
Knight was one of four finalists for the position, according to a list obtained through the Texas Freedom of Information Act. Other finalists were Houston associate head coach Alvin Brooks, Northern Arizona coach Michael Adras and former Monmouth coach David Calloway.
Looks like Tidwell was targeting experienced D1 head coaches only. 11.
What is this inane belief that Lamar will move up to a bigger conference. Do you guys not know that football is the main driver to promotion to a new league?  We would have to dominate for the next 10 years to get a nod to move up.  I am sure our baseball, tennis, and golf success will help at that point but really McNeesen SFA, & Sam Houston have a way better chance to get called up first!
Do you know that Dr. Simmons has publicly stated he wants Lamar to be bowl eligible by 2015?  And the main driver to moving up to a better conference is money.  UTSA is moving up and they haven't even played one down of football in their history!  These are not crazy internet rumors, it's definitely a possibility.
 12.
Did anyone hear what I heard? He said at one point he talked too much then talked about the WAC and then said I think you will see a big surprise in the spring. What does he know? It just makes you think.
Here's an interesting rumor from the Sun Belt board:
Not to change the subject of the thread, but the rumor in town this weekend is that the WAC will definitely extend invites to Lamar and Sam Houston within a few days. The Southland will then have to seek replacements for Lamar, Sam Houston, UTSA and Texas State. A possible hurdle is that Lamar has apparently been open about it's desire to return to the Sunbelt and there's obviously pressure on Sam to remin with SFA, etc. The next couple of weeks could be interesting. 13.
Any WAC news. BRI seem to already think LU is in.
Hopefully June!!
 14. ...and in an unexpected move Tidwell names Tom Abatemarco the new HC at Lamar!!  (Sorry UNLV, couldn't resist.)
 15. Can anybody win again at Lamar?  They've tried all different types of coaches since the 1980s and haven't had much success.  Now it's Pat Knight's turn.  I hope he's the one!
 16.
Just got confirmation from a Lamar source, it's Pat Knight. Expect a news conference tomorrow.
Any details on his salary?  I'm thinking at least $150K with incentives.
 17. Pat Knight wasn't my first choice but if he can win then with his name alone should bring more press to Lamar than if Lamar was winning with a no-name coach.  But first we'll see if he can be the first in a long time to actually win here on a consistent basis!!
 18.
Seem to me Knight DOES NOT have the track record or experience for the job ;)
That's never been a problem for Lamar in the past!  ;D
 19. If Abatemarco had taken Lamar to the NCAA tourney with a 25+ win season and won a game there then I would open to him coming back.  But just winning 20 games then winning less and less after that is not a good sign.  He just now got back into the college game.  According to that article I posted it took him 4 years before CU finally brought him back as an assistant.  I understand he was last successful coach Lamar has had before the program fell off a cliff but I don't see any evidence he can bring that success back.
 20.

This coaching hunt is turning into a circus. We won't get anyone good. Evans is an idiot. If he had the job, he should have taken it. He will be assisting for a long time. Anyone for Abatemarco Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah?
The only thing worse than Abatemarco would be Knight or Tic Price.  If we hire Tic Price I may give away all of my LU possessions and walk around with bag over my head.
Yet this forum is making excuses for Knight. So what does that tell you?
You keep making excuses for Abatemarco so there goes your credibility!!
 21. UNLV, I just don't get this obsession with Abatemarco.  So what he won 20 games for Lamar 22 years ago.  How many NCAA tourney games did Lamar go to when he was the coach? ZERO!!  How many schools are trying to hire him as their head coach? ZERO!!  How many HS and JUCO kids will be impressed by his experience as a WNBA assistant? ZERO!!  How many east coast kids will he recruit since he hasn't live on the east coast for decades?  ZERO!! Here's a great article about him from 2007:  [Hidden Content] I like this quote:
Fans of Tom Abatemarco -- both of them -- who thought he might soon be coaching in the Big 12 Conference evidently are mistaken.
22. More rumors that Evans still open to coaching at Lamar!
 23. If Knight gets the job I hope he can get Matt Cross as an assistant.
 24.

According to the Beaumont Enterprise Evans doesn't want the job. [Hidden Content]
WOW!!!
I think Evans is determined to coach at OU so he'll probably end up as an assistant there.  So who's next on the list?  Maybe Crutchfield at ORU will sneak in and get the job?
