1. Woodard need to shake up the coaching staff.  Get a new OC, DC, and O-line coach.

Earl Campbell couldnt run behind our line...all the hype about the line and the  running game...ditch it..chunk that tater I think dim whitten is using his brain a little on this one.....Ray grasping at straws
I think it is the blocking scheme up front that is the problem.  Either it is flawed or the line is not executing it properly.  On one play down near the goal the DE was lined up over the TE.  The tackle doubles  the DE on a run up the middle instead of getting upfield on a LB.  The DE has should have no chance lined up that far outside on a dive play. I hope that is just a result of the O Line being young.
Maybe it's the coaching.  Nathan Reeves coaches the offensive line and he had zero experience coaching that position before coming to Lamar.  Look at his bio:
Nathan Reeves is in his first full year with the Lamar football program after serving as an assistant for three years at Sam Houston State. In Huntsville, he was responsible for the Bearkat running backs and offensive video and scouting reports.
[Hidden Content] I find it curious some of the choices Woodard has made for assistant coaches.

 4. As the old saying goes, bad publicity is better than none.  Besides, the punishment can't be near as bad as Coach Roc's self-imposed 3 year ban of going to the SLC tourney.  ;D
 5. I wasn't at the game but from what I've read Texas State did not have to run that last play because time was running out, but instead they rushed to get that last play in before time expired.  But it's the coaches responsibility to keep the defense aware of what's going on.  Thinking the other team won't run a play is not much of an excuse.  Hope Woodard is more concerned about the lack of defense in the whole first half rather than on the last play of the game.
 6.
You  would think with all of Rays defensive experience they could make some quick adjustments during the game.  Their techniques on stopping the pass are horrible and this is another coordinator.  We have got to have a base defense and learn how to play it. Trickery lasts about a qtr then good technique wins. Give Cornel or Dan a call.
I agree. Why didn't Woodard hire a real DC this past offseason?
 7. Lamar owns the land at the corner of Virginia and MLK and they were hoping to get a developer to build some retail stores and/or restaurants there.  Not sure if Lamar had any takers on that. The $100 million capital campaign is up to $87 million now.  Along with the higher admission standards and a priority on retaining students, enrollment should be over 15K in the next few years. Lamar has about $178 million in new construction planned over the next 5 years.  Next year they have a new $3.5 million alumni and visitors center planned.  In 2013 they should start on a new $25 million science building, renovations to the Sezter Center and Vincent-Beck, plus the new softball stadium. The Lamar police will also be patrolling a larger area around the university to make that area safer. Even with a tighter state budget, great things are still happening at Lamar. Here's a side note: Karl Benson, the commissioner of the WAC, will be at the Lamar-Texas State game this Saturday.  It's probably more than a coincidence he chose this game to attend.
 8. Its simple, Lamar just needs to win and the fans will come.  In the the late 70's with Larry Keenan as head coach they started winning and they averaged over 16K a game.  In basketball, Tubbs and Foster kept winning year after year and attendance peaked to over 6K a game.  The problem with Lamar is they lose a lot more than they win so people lose interest and attendance dwindles.  All the other factors are minor compared to winning.
 9. Incarnate Ward lost to West Texas A&M 52-7 the week after they played us.  Unless the coaches work some miracle with the defense or it's a complete offensive shootout it could get ugly.
If not, fair enough. But the media in Huntsville (to my memory) didn't flaunt his troubles (which may be why I don't know the history very well), then as the savior of the football program either.
Is there any thread that you post on that you don't bring up players' past troubles?  ::)

Maybe we should give him a break, he probably didn't know the criminal record of some of his recruits either, yea, that's it. ::)
I can promise you Coach Woodard knew who was on the field and who wasn't. 58, you think Lamar is the only FCS school in the country that has 2 known players with a record. Yes, Dorsey was wrong for pushing down his girlfriend and Oden should not have got behind the wheel after drinking (he is over 21). When you say criminal record I think of things a little more serious. I'm sure 80% of the FCS programs in the nation would have given both these young men another opportunity.
Evidently 19 year olds who commit misdemeanors should NEVER be given a second chance to play football again.

 13. Can someone please explain this?  This is from Chris Dabe:
Lamar was without regular starting middle linebacker Jacody Coleman when Incarnate Word scored touchdowns the first two times it had the ball Saturday. Coleman did not play until Incarnate Word’s third possession, after the visiting Cardinals matched Lamar for its first two scores. Asked why Coleman, Lamar’s leading tackler with 19 through three games, did not play the first two series, Woodard said, “I don’t know. I didn’t know that. That’s news to me.” Regular starting defensive tackle Adren Dorsey also did not play the first two series.
Link: [Hidden Content]

 15. For us out-of-towners it was nice that ESPN3 picked it up so I watched it online.  Of course I could have watched it online straight from the Lamar website too.  Watching it online the stadium looked almost full in the first half.  Besides McNeese, the other SLC schools are lucky to break 10K for a home game except for maybe a rivalry game.
 16.

Lamar can't have 12-16 coaches at the FCS level, but they could hire a couple more coaches.  There's no reason they shouldn't have all the coaches allowed at their level.
McNeese has 10 assistant position coaches and 2 strength and conditioning coaches. Lamar can at least have that! I also agree we need to a experienced Defensive Coordinator.
Woodard should definitely hire an experienced Defensive coordinator.
 17.
The defensive staff seems to be overwhelmed with the situation in hand.  We need to get us something we can hang or hat on and play it.  We need a coordinator who is not in training as our 2 are.  I see very little technique being played and trying stunting to cover up our weaknesses is not the answer.  How about the fake when we should have known the possibility for a 2 pt play was there!  I wish this team well but they need more team play and a better display of leadership.  Now I am sure that some will see this as a bash but it is what I see and think needs to be corrected, you may disagree but at least state what you see and think.
Their guy could have walked into the endzone on that fake extra point kick.  Did it even cross the coaches minds that they might try for 2 or did they just not care?

 19. I think Lamar is missing Roger Hinshaw as their defensive coordinator.  He was the most experienced coach on the staff last year, now they have two guys sharing the duty.  One was a high school coach and the other doesn't have that much college experience.

 21.

I can't believe you guys are still talking about this.  If you look at the game stats Prewitt has negative rushing yards while Bevil and Johnson did not (all games, not just Texas College).  Because Prewitt is the better passer, he did pretty well last year to finish the season with two home games against relatively weak teams.  With no rushing game whatsoever Lamar needed an accurate (if not spectacular) passer.  But he's not the best fit for the offense that Lamar wants to run this year.  But I bet he'll move up fast on the depth chart if Bevil throws a ton of interceptions like he did last year.  Johnson hasn't played enough to know if he can throw the ball accurately at this level.
when people post  nonsense....you know they were on the couch and not at the game coach..why did prewitt have negative rushing yards???? A SHOTGUN SNAP THAT MISSED HIM BY 5 FEET!!! Get the real info before posting jibberish
What's his excuse for the other games?
 22. I watched the UT-BYU game last night.  The UT offense was floundering with Gilbert at QB in the first half.  Did Mack Brown stick with him in the 2nd?  No, he used 2 QBs and the UT offense came alive and won the game.  Woodard was asked by Chris Dabe why he stayed with Bevil and Woodard said the Bevil had not done enough wrong to take him out.  Isn't being down 20-0 enough of a reason, especially since Woodard knows the 3 QBs are pretty even at this point in the season? If Johnson is the QB of the future, let him play now and prove his worth.  If Woodard wants to run a lot then let Prewitt be the QB because then he should be able to find the open receiver if Lamar has a half decent run game.  This game should prove that Bevil is not the answer.  The offense is lackluster when he doesn't play aggresively, and he turns the ball over a lot when he does.  Put him back at WR and let Johnson prove his worth.  If Johnson doesn't cut it this year then let Prewitt lead this team in conference play.

 25. Johnson is a freshman who really hasn't played any games yet, the Texas College game was more like a scrimmage.  The coaches said they were going to run all night and that's basically what they did.  Nobody knows how well he'll do yet at this level so he's going to be given every chance to succeed until he proves otherwise.  I personally would prefer Prewitt starting until JJ proves he's a better QB and let Bevil be a receiver, but it just seems like Woodard is going with the most experience.  Maybe Woodard didn't want to give away his hand to South Alabama and will start Prewitt on saturday.
