1. I do realize all of that.  But I don't see Lamar joining a power conference anytime soon so they will never be place where a good coach will stay for a long time.  I'm sure Lamar can find a coach that can win 20 games a year against easy competition and make it to the NCAA tourney every 3 or 4 years only to get blown out in the first round.  What's Tidwell to do?  Find a hot young coach that will bring instant success then leave in 3 or 4 years or bring in an older "name" coach that will stick around and win 20 games a year but not really win any "big" games.  I prefer the high risk/high reward option of a young coach.
 2.
And there lies the problem, if a coach thinks LU is a stepping stone, can you imagine what the recruits are thinking.
90% of teams in D1 are stepping stones so that's nothing unique to Lamar.  The key is making Lamar a program that keeps attracting the up and coming coaches.  That's what they had in the 80's so now they have to rebuild back up to that.
 3. Are these guys being told that they'll be coaching in the WAC soon?
 4.
All of you guys are idiots. Whoever the next coach is, you guys will be calling for him to be fired in mid season anyway so it doesn't matter who Lamar brings in.
If Lamar brings in another coach who can't coach then of course we'll want him fired.  Lamar's track record in hiring good coaches hasn't been that good these past 20 years so some of us old folks are getting a little jaded.  It's pretty sad that these days we get excited when they make the SLC tourney, and for Roc that goal was unreachable!   ::)
 5. If Roc is back next year then it'll mean that winning isn't that important to Simmons and Tidwell.
 6. Tidwell had no experience as a college head coach but he did spend 18 years as a high school head coach:
A native of Sanger, Texas, Tidwell made four stops (Frisco, Lexington, Schulenburg and Mexia) during 18 years in Texas high schools, compiling a 283-65 (.813) career record as a head coach. In women's basketball, his teams made 10 state playoff appearances.
[Hidden Content] Rodney Terry also has never been a head coach at the college level but here's his high school coaching record:
He spent one season (1995-96) as the varsity coach at Angleton (Texas) High School and two years as the head coach at Somerville (Texas) High School. Terry posted a 15-13 mark at Angleton and a 49-21 overall record at Somerville, where he led the school to the Class 2A state semifinals in 1993-94.
[Hidden Content] Big difference in head coaching experience.  Maybe he's a great X and O guy, but do we really want to risk another 4 or 5 years to find out?
 7. I agree with Green Menace so hopefully Rodney Terry at UT will not be considered for the LU job.
 8. This must be the reason why Roc was clearing out his office, to make room for the return of Giovanine!!  :D :D
 9.
Think about it, what would be the point in being a FBS with all these non-football schools.
I agree.  I think they are aiming for a 10/12 setup with Seattle and Denver the two basketball schools and they'll try to find two football schools out west so they can have divisions.
 10. The Site Admin over on BobcatReport.com (Jack) said he talked to someone in the UTA athletic department and was told it's all wishful thinking and it's not going to happen.  Jack maintains that Lamar is the only other SLC school that has a shot at the WAC.  From what I've read the WAC will meet in April and invites will go out then.  Probably waiting until March Madness is over.
 11.
Just so you know, it's teams like Lamar (this year) that helped make the conference one of the worst.
We know!  That's why we want Roc gone!
 12.

But they actually interviewed Floyd.
Yeah imagine that...They didn't even so much as send a letter of interest to the other guys when they were available. ::) Point is every program passes on someone that makes it big at some point. Even the big dogs get it wrong sometimes!
Lamar seems to get it wrong a lot of times!!
 13. I predict BCG will go to Tech and he'll hire Roc for his staff.
 14.
The idea of Abatemarco is a total joke.  Also, you guys can go ahead and forget about LU paying someone $200k.  Not happening.  They will have to pay roc next year so that would be 300k plus for head coaching salaries for next year.  NOT HAPPENING!!!!!!  Rodney Terry or Alvin Brooks will be our next head coach.  Mark it down.
Roc will be an assistant somewhere next year and Lamar will not have to pay him.  Rodney Terry has been an assistant coach at the D1 level for the last 16+ years and Alvin Brooks failed as HC at Houston so the future does indeed look bright for Lamar basketball!
 15.

I still say bring back Abatemarco. Yes he is annoying, but he is a great X and O guy who can turn the program into a winner, not in 5 years but in the first year. Tom Penders would be my second choice sense many of LU players were his recruits.
Abatemarco is a fool
Abatemarco is winding up his first season as assistant at Colorado, correct?  Fool or not, he IS a better X & O coach than given credit for---just think his reputation here in the past puts him out of the picture before applications are even taken (if they are).  Just PLEASE don't bring back Newell
based on what?  his record as a head coach? some people arent meant to be head coaches, and abatemarco is one of em
I agree.  Lamar needs to say no to "has beens" and assistants that can "grow" into a head coach.  Bring in a proven winner, even a head coach from a lower level who has shown time and again they can quickly turn a program around and win.  Someone who has moved up the ranks and still wins, no matter the level.
 16. Not to worry, Roc will find a way to lose Saturday!  :D
 17.

If we win and Nicholls looses we are in
Not necessarily. You would both be 8-8, and so would Nicholls, & SELA. Assuming UTSA loses, which you would probably also need because you've split the series with Nicholls and SELA has the advantage. The SLC is supposed to release all the scenarios around noon, but Lamar basically has to win, and have a lot of help.
Nicholls and SELA are both 8-7 and they play each other Saturday so one will be 8-8 after the game.  The tiebreaker rules are confusing but it looks like Lamar would get in over Nicholls due to the fact Lamar would be 1-1 against McNeese while Nicholls is 0-2 against them.
 18. Why in the heck did they give Roc a SIX year contract at $135K per year to begin with?  He was NEVER a head coach before this job, and being a local guy that loves LAMAR, did they even have to pay him that much?  If he loves LAMAR as much as he says he does, he would quit after this season and not take the money.
 19. Here's what Pomeroy is predicting for the last four games: 70-62 loss to SFA 81-79 win over SHSU 87-82 win over Texas State 79-74 loss to McNeese State
 20. Over at BobcatReport.com (another Texas State sports forum), the Site Admin is reporting that a WAC official said that the conference is looking to add Lamar, Seattle and Utah Valley State.  That would be 8 for football, 11 for basketball.  I think the ultimate goal is 9/12.  He also said Montana wants to join the WAC but they are tied to Montana State which does not want to go. [Hidden Content]
 21. I wonder why Lamar chose to drop the South Dakota game with a $100K buyout fee and not Texas State which wouldn't have cost Lamar a penny?  Maybe dropping the Texas State game wouldn't have set well in the eyes of the WAC?
 22. I watched some of the first half online and I thought Lamar was going to lose big.  I'm pleasantly surprised they turned the tables and came back from big halftime deficit, even if TAMU-CC is pretty bad this year.  Can they keep it up against SHSU, SFA, Texas State and McNeese, the top 4 teams in the conference?
 23. Like basketball, the expectations for the baseball program are dropping so now we're just happy to be competitive in the SLC and losing to these types of schools seems to be no big deal.
