1. According to the Beaumont Enterprise Evans doesn't want the job. [Hidden Content]
 2. Terry Evans says he's been offered to be Lon Kruger's assistant at OU and the LU job:
But Evans said he told Kruger to take the job and hire Evans onto his staff, a move which sources said OU officials would endorse. “I would absolutely love it,” Evans said. Evans played for Kruger during the 1990 U.S. Olympic Festival and said he mentioned that fact to OU athletic director Joe Castiglione. But later Friday, Evans said he had been offered the head coaching job at Lamar University and was contemplating it.
Which will he choose? [Hidden Content]
 3.
Mizzou State is hiring Purdue asistant Paul Lusk I thought.
I think you're right.  >:(
 4. Mizzou State can probably pay more than Lamar so if they want him they can probably get him, but I read somewhere that Mizzou State is after someone else.
 5.
Abatemarco absolutely positively NO!!!!  Let someone else take that risk, his track record doesn't justify the chance.  LU needs desperately to get this hire right!!!!
Which means they probably won't!!
 6.

Tidwell says "I have had no contact with any sources from the Western Athletic Conference. No phone calls or face to face contact."  He doesn't say if anyone else connected with Lamar has had contact with the WAC.  I would think Tubbs and/or Simmons would be the ones working behind the scenes with the WAC, not Tidwell.
No way! There's no way you leave out the AD in talks like that.
I have no idea if anyone at Lamar has talked to the WAC, but Tidwell until recently was the interim AD and he's been busy with women's BB team.  Of course Tidwell wouldn't be left out of the loop, but Tidwell wouldn't have to be the one who talks to Benson since Simmons would have the final say if Lamar joins the WAC or not.  Tidwell would need to let Simmons know if they can afford to go to the WAC or not.  And since Lamar likes to do things quietly then I could see Tubbs or someone else secretly talking to the WAC while Tidwell publicly says Lamar is happy in the SLC.

 8. Just hire Evans as HC and Cross as his assistant.  Evans will head to OU in 4 or 5 years and Cross will take over.  The program will be set for about 8-10 years.
 9. I always thought Roc was trying to run his program like Calipari but he couldn't get those types of players to Lamar.  He couldn't adjust his coaching to match his players.
 10. According to the Beaumont Enterprise, Tom Abatemarco wasn't interviewed and he's not in the top 8.
 11.
One of the coaches has Final Four assistant coaching experience as well!!! ;) ;)
It must be Tom Abatemarco then!  ;D
 12. I'm for Evans, but it's interesting that Seltzer was at OU for a while.  I guess Tubbs like these OU guys.
Kyle Locke, assistant at University of Washington.
...for the womens' team!
You ruined my joke, coach. ;D
You scared me, but with some of the coaches Lamar has hired in the past you just never know!  :o

 15. But Gilligan is a legend in these parts!  He's taking Lamar to the college world series....wait, he's taken Lamar to the super regionals.....wait, he's won a lot of games for Lamar!  You can't get rid of him.
 16. If Lamar wants to bet big then they hire Cross or Evans.  Hiring Abetamarco is not betting big, it's betting dumb.  If Abetamarco had never coached at Lamar would anyone here care about him?  So what that he won 20 games 22 years ago.  Tubbs won 17 games about 6 years ago and Roc won 19 just a few years ago and we're talking about how they failed to turn the program around, but hey, Abetamarco won 20 games 22 years ago so he'll return Lamar back to the glory days!  Come on UNLV, that's not a very compelling argument.
 17. Tom Abatemarco's coaching record: [tt]Team Years Record Sac State    1997-2000 13-66 (0.165) Drake        1988-1990 23-29 (0.442) Lamar        1986-1988 34-26 (0.567) Overall:  3 teams, 7 seasons, 70-121 (0.366)[/tt] [Hidden Content] Pat Knight's coaching record: [tt]Team Years Record Texas Tech 2007-2011 62-69 (0.473) Overall:  1 team, 4 seasons, 62-69 (0.473)[/tt] [Hidden Content] Alvin Brook's coaching record: [tt]Team Years Record Houston 1993-1998 54-84 (0.391) Overall:  1 team, 5 seasons, 54-84 (0.391)[/tt] [Hidden Content] Terry Evans' coaching record:
Evans is 193-80 in nine years at UCO -- including a 104-23 mark the last four seasons -- and has directed the Bronchos to seven national tournament appearances, including the last four in a row.  He also led the team to six Lone Star Conference North Division titles and two overall league crowns.
[Hidden Content] That's a .706 winning percentage.  The big difference is that he's been winning at the D2 level.  But I prefer someone who's proven he can win at the lower levels than someone who's proven he CANNOT win at the highest level.
 18.
Has the interviewing started yet?
Not yet.  Simmons is out of the country.  I think Tidwell said they plan to narrow it down to 5 or 10 candidates and then bring them on campus at that point.  They want to have a decision made by April 7th.
 19.
Chad Cooper gives some very good insightful information why the coach from Oklahoma would be a good applicant and possible fit for Lamar. I especially liked the fact that he recruits and wins in D-11. Sorry, but Lamar has a history of recruiting lower level players and obviously this coach has a skill and hitory  at putting good teams together without the big time players.
I'm liking Terry Evans more and more.
 20.
That is about one sad list when you look and see maybe 5 people on there that are even worth thinking about.  We may have already gone beyond the ability to salvage the program if this is the best we can hope to attract.  This is embarrassing.  This list shouldn't have been made public.
They had to release this list, it's the law.  But this list doesn't mean much.  The first applicants are normally the ones that apply for every opening out there.  The serious candidates talk to Tubbs and company behind the scenes then apply near the end of process.
 21. Here's the list from Bob West: Pat Knight Sean Sutton Don Skelton Matt Cross Tom Abatemarco Steve Green Alvin Brooks Glenn Cyprien [Hidden Content]
 22. People were throwing out big names for the football HC position and Lamar hired Woodard.  I bet they do the same for Cross.  I'd be for it.  Lamar's not going to pay big bucks for a name coach anyway unless they hire some over the hill retread that goes through the motions.  At least everyone seems to agree the Cross knows how to coach.
 23.

If anyone thinks it will be any place other than Frisco, you are off your rocker! This conference should go back to higher seeds venue. It is ridiculous for any Low Major conference that is only getting one bid no matter what the records are to be having a conference tourney that doesn't benefit the teams that played the best over the 16 game schedule. Every other year this conference sends a 16 seed for the slaughter leaving a 14 or 15 seed that could have an upset out in the cold. What good does that do the SLC??
The SLC should not have a tournament, period.
Without the SLC tourney then no conference games would be on ESPN.  Besides, if the best team in the SLC can't win the conference tourney then I doubt they will be able to win a game in the NCAA tourney.  The SLC is a weak basketball conference so it really doesn't matter what they do.
 24. It's funny to see these kinds of complaints when the team is winning.  Lamar's RPI continues to improve and with the meat of the schedule coming up they can really make some noise.
