1. The La Tech fans think they are better than all the ex-SLC schools, even those in the Sun Belt.  They think La Tech is CUSA material.
Yea, reading some of this stuff gets my blood to the boiling point. Is not like any of them are in the Top 25 in football, basketball or baseball. Don't know what they are so high and mighty about?
Actually isn't Utah State #25 in the basketball polls?  A Utah State fan was posting here the other day and basically their fan base is upset that they got left behind and didn't get to move up to the MWC.  If the WAC invite doesn't come then we'll feel the same way around here.
Here's what Scout says about him:
Not very fast but he is efficient in his running of the routes and in getting open. He has great hands and won't drop the ball then he takes off and runs tough. His speed will limit what schools he will get offered by and make being D1 tough, his hands and route running skills are above average.
[Hidden Content]

 5. Ford will decide between LU, SFA, and Texas A&M.  We'll know Wednesday at 9:30 am. [Hidden Content]
 6. I hope the best for Ben Jones but I'm guessing he just liked the coaches more at McNeese and will probably get more playing time there.  I didn't find much recruiting info on him so I suspect he wasn't highly recruited.

 9. Pomeroy Ratings for Lamar, 2003-2011 (about the same as RPI): 2003 - 248 (Mike Deane's last year) ---------- 2004 - 293 (Billy Tubbs took over) 2005 - 192 2006 - 202 ---------- 2007 - 227 (Roc took over) 2008 - 170 2009 - 215 2010 - 283 2011 - 230 (currently) Roller coaster ride of mediocrity!
 10.
Hey, I don't know if it is a great achievement or not. But, if there are only 27 public universities listed it must be pretty good.
The next step up is being a high research doctoral university so Lamar still has a ways to go, but Dr. Simmons has done wonders for Lamar.
 11.
You guys act like Lamar has had a such a storied history of winning. When was the last time Lamar won? Consistently? 25 yrs ago. Lots of coaches have been thru here and lost. heck even B Tubbs wasnt that great when he came back. Why not give a local guy and guy that would cut his arm off for this University as much time as he needs to get it rolling. If someone told u in 3 or 4 years Lamar would be the toast of the conference for an extended period of time. Would u sign up for that?
How much time would suggest?  10, 15 years?  Everybody was rooting for Roc when he got here and he's been given 5 years to make improvements and the program struggles to even make the SLC tourney.  Roc hasn't even taken the team to the SLC tourney finals and this is one of the worst conferences in the country.  The bottom line is you have to win, no matter how loyal and dedicated you are.
 12.
Here's the original drawing of the stadium back in 1964 when it was built showing the stadium bowled in. Now that there's the Montagne Center on the north end and a larger athletic complex on the south end, it limits capacity. [Hidden Content]
While at the last home game I was looking at how the athletic complex was built and it appears to me it was planned to wrap the seating around over the two lower ends of the building but still have room for seating between the field and the big scoreboard.  On the Montagne Center end there's room for some seating, like at Texas Tech's stadium where one end zone has a few seats between the field and that building.  There's enough room for a 30K to 40K seat stadium along with some big press boxes and suites on each side.
 13.

I don't know much about you guys.  How are your basketball/football teams?  Any facility upgrades?  What kind of alumni support do you have?
Your board doesn't seem very happy with Lamar joining. Would they be happier if the WAC lose it's FBS because not enough football schools. I remember USU and Lamar playing a few great games in basketball in the 80's.
I don't really blame them.  If Lamar indeed does join the WAC then hopefully Tidwell will hire the right coach this time and bring back some great basketball and big crowds.  I can see 6K+ crowds back in the Montagne like in the 1980s against Utah State, La Tech and New Mexico State.
 14.
LU looses another winable game Nicholls 78 - LU 71
Pomeroy had LU losing by 7 so Roc didn't disappoint!  :D
 15. I think both Texas State and UTSA will be charging their students $20/semester hour while Lamar is only charging $8.25/semester hour, but I would hope Lamar could support football through donations and ticket sales instead.  But Woodard and staff are severely underpaid compared to other FBS coaches so that's at least another $200K a year they'll need to spend on the program, plus the extra 23 scholarships, and they still have to start the softball program and build a field for them.
 16. I think they are trying to get both a 6th home game and the TCU game because that would mean more money and publicity for Lamar.  Would they be doing this if they weren't interested in joining the WAC?
 17. I believe Benson said any FCS team invited would be on Texas State's timeline to go FBS.  I think the NCAA rule is you must spend at least 2 years at the FCS level then 2 years transitioning to FBS.  Lamar was FCS this past year and will be FCS next year.  Getting invited to the WAC would mean they'd join in 2012 and would count as a FBS team but wouldn't be bowl eligible until 2014.  A few months ago Dr. Simmons stated in the Beaumont Enterprise the dream is for Lamar to be in Jan 1st bowl game in 2015.  Now is the time to take a big step forward towards that goal by joining the WAC.  I would assume Simmons and Tubbs are out talking to the big donors about this move because the stadium will need to be expanded.  It's a great FCS stadium but way too small for a FBS stadium.
Did Woodard pick on you when you were a kid or something?  Nobody here cares what you think about Woodard.  ::)
 19.

Lots of good coaches out there. I think we could possibly get Quinn Snyder, he is coaching the Austin Torros NBDL team.
I like Snyder (I am a Duke fan) and would make that call - but I don't see it happening.  His first head gig wat at Mizzou - as much as it pains me to say it, LU would be quite a step down.  Plus, he is coaching - probably at a competitive salary.  If we do go to the WAC, both he and Gillespie will be stronger options, but not in the Southland. And I see BCG getting the Tech job, if the brass in Lubbock has the stones to part ways with Lil' Knight.
I think Snyder is now an assistant for the 76ers so I doubt he'll step down to this level.  BCG will probably get hired by Texas Tech or another higher-level school, but you never know.
 20. Finally something from KFDM:
Lamar University’s music department has joined the elite group of named university music departments becoming one of only a handful in Texas thanks to the generosity of Ray and Mary Moore, officials announced at a dedication today.

“We are forever grateful for the generous gift of $2 million from Mary and Ray Moore,” Simmons said. “Their generous gift brings the total giving to Lamar’s Investing in the Future comprehensive campaign to more than $76 million.”
[Hidden Content]
 21. Isn't this the last year of his 5 year contract?  I'm guessing Lamar will not renew his contract and both sides will say nice things about each other.  Maybe BCG will keep Roc as his top recruiter?  ;D
 22. For the remaining of the season I'll assume the women will win and the men will lose.
 23.
I was listening to the sports show prior to the Tidwell call in show on KLVI yeterday. So I called and asked them to speak with Tidwell about the situation with Roc. They had the nuts to get on the radio and say that this team was great and that ROC is doing a great job this year. All I could say is wow! They said that it was not Roc's fault that they shot 23%... and that they were taking high percentage shots... Our loses almost fall 100% on Roc's shoulders as he is unable to make adjustments and motivate his players.
KLVI is the voice of Lamar athletics so I doubt they would publicly say anything bad any of the coaches, matter how bad they may be doing.
 24.
BCG!!! BCG!!! BCG!!! BCG!!! BCG!!! BCG!!! BCG!!! BCG!!! I also listened to Roc's post game interview with Dave, it was pathetic!! "The right players played" What he is saying, "It's not my fault, never has been, never will be" I'll admit, shooting 23% will lose just about 98% of your games. But continue to jack up 3's (shot 30 of them), instead of working the ball for better opportunities (which could have helped the shooting percentage) is on Roc. They don't do any cutting or screening along the baseline and I don't think Roc knows what a give-and-go is. To have never led in a home game against NSU just about says it all. BCG, PLEASE!!!!!!!!
BCG did a ESPN radio interview very recently talking about Texas high school basketball.  He said Buna was a great basketball town and that the coach from there changed the way the UIL handled high school basketball players by letting them attend summer camps.  Texas Tech may be looking for a new coach this spring too but who knows, maybe Tubbs has some pull.  Joining the WAC would definitely be a plus.  BCG started at UTEP when they were in the WAC.
I thought that's why they're dropping Texas State. I don't see why they would drop South Dakota for Incarnate Word.
Maybe for another home game and to cut down on travelling?
