A lot of people may not like it but the court at the Montagne Center will be named Billy Tubbs Court. There is no other individual who has done more for the university from a player, assistant coach, head coach to AD. [Hidden Content] I hope they grant the request by Lamar. All four are important for various reasons to the university.

Lamar offensive coordinator looking to diversify attack
bigred360 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Way to stay classy on here BKJ885 as I'm not sure I would do the same if someone was talking about my son. Thing is Puddin, thinks the only way Lamar can win is to chuck it deep. There is no need of a running game or to be balanced offensively. Or to help the defense out by not going three and out every series with all three plays passes. ::) I do agree with him as there need to be an open competitive for the QB position. But it's going to come down to Johnson or Smith. Sorry Prewitt, Johnson is too athletic and Smith has a better arm. BTW Puddin, Lamar is going to use a little option this year on offense. 8) -

Lamar, SHS not primary WAC targets
bigred360 replied to coachacola's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
There is already talks with other schools about joining the SLC. I can't remember them right now but it is 3 or 4 schools and I believe they are DII, not sure. I see your point as I wouldn't want Lamar left in the SLC if another school leaves. That would leave only 7 football member schools so they would probably look at a DII school to move up. -

Bearkat25, I've posted on katfans from time to time and the vast majority of your alumni who post there don't want to make the jump to a FBS conference. Lamar, with our current administration will do what is best for Lamar. That might be staying in the SLC, I don't know and I'm not sure anyone who post here knows. However, if Lamar decides to leave the SLC and go to a FBS conference we aren't going to worry about how it affects other schools because we will be doing what is best for our university. I'm sure SHSU feels the same way. So I don't see how Lamar will be forcing SHSU hand in moving to another conference. -
Like a posted on katfans, if you guys go we will follow you. We will not let Txst and Lamar go FBS and us stay FCS. Why would we? In our capital campaign we raised over 61 million dollars in four years in a down economy so money isn't as big of a deal as some may think. If there is a reason to get behind something our alums will pony up the cash. (By the way the goal was 50 miilion in five years) I think our two schools are joined at the hip. Unfortunately, I think Lamar is driving this whole thing. You guys want to jump a lot more than we do. If Lamar wants to go bad enough the Lamar University "big wigs" will make it happen. Yall will jump and (by default) so will we.
Lamar has raised over $76 million of our capital campaign with a goal being $100 million. We've raise the $76 milion in about 4 years. There is going to be running our of the shotgun and the pistol ;D. I went to practice a couple of days ago and the QB's are running the option from both formations. Please don't get me depressed as I've been having a good day up to now. Lord I've read he is a pretty good OC on katfans so I hope that is true. -
Shoot, I don't care if it is a JUCO Head Coach who is a winner, as long as the man is A PROVEN WINNER! I could care less if our next coach WAS a big name but failed somewhere. I'm tired of seeing this program lose. Tidwell has a lot of contacts, so I am sure he knows someone who could bring some much needed success to our program.
Larry Tidwell has been on the Coach Roc radio show about 3 times this year. I'm scared to death he won't fire Roc!

Lord, how many times did I say we had to do both; run and pass the football and be diverse on offense. JJ, you need to get a printed copy of the BMT Enterprise for the full story. Now that we have some depth in the O-line and I've heard the QB's will be more involved in the running game we should do alot better rushing the ball than last year. -
I'd like someone going up the coaching ladder not down. JMHO.

Lamar's Johnson eyes starting QB job
bigred360 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sounds like he is a hard worker as he was still on the field after I left practice yesterday. -
Recruiting, you need someone with Texas ties especially for a school like Lamar who isn't going to get 4 and 5 star basketball players from all over the country. We have one from Oregon and Illinois, 2 from Florida and 3 from California and look at our record.

Honestly, I think it would be worth someone making 200K or more it they can get the program to where it was in the late 70 and early 80's. I remember reading at one point Lamar MBB was third in the state of Texas in attendance back then behind UT and UH.
I find that hard to believe.......I guarantee you that Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Baylor, SMU, TCU all average more than LU does in attendance!!!
Sorry, that is hard to believe but that was during the Pat Foster year's and we were going to the NCAA or NIT tournaments every year. Yes, we averaged over 6500 at home during that time. 8)

I agree with coachacola in the stadium can be expanded in stages.

One tells me LU has dropped the road game with South Dakota & the home game against Incarnate Word is the replacement. If that's the case - THAT IS PATHETIC.
what y'all have against Incarnate Word? y'all are sounding like the techsters talking about LU. We are a second year program and we are "Too Good"?..
Hoop has the right to his opinion but I agree puddin we are a second year program. Look around the country at all the games the Top 25 FBS programs play out of conference. I see no difference here. Woodard just wanting a home win before SLC play begins. -
This seems to fall on Lamar if they got 'vetoed' by the NCAA... either that or Bob West does not understand how FCS works (would be no surprise) The NCAA rules do no state 57 players, but equivalencies equaling 57 full rides... being averaged over a two-year period.
By the way, you meant do not state, right? -

I believe the BMT Enterprise addressed how many were on scholarship on the football team after the recent Feb signing period and stated a couple more could be added in a recent article. I just can't find it. I'm sure coachacola or one of those guys knows the correct answer or will be able to find the article. -

mffl, you must have a lot of sources being where you go to school and where your internship is. ;) Thanks for sharing this one even if it fell through due to some NCAA guideline. -
This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. If you continually bring on JUCO players cohesiveness is a problem. In todays D-1 world everyone is talented, the difference usually is on the bench.I like Roc but it's time for a change.
It's more than bringing in juco transfers. It is the way his teams respond to his coaching methods. His adjustments or lack there of during the game and at halftime. The way he treats his players and the interaction with other coaches on the staff. They (Lamar) has zero confidence and that is because of they way he pulls them from games not to see the court again. I like Roc as a person but it is the right time to make a change after this season.
