However if I was President of Lamar, I would dot my "i" and cross all my "t" before announcing. I think this what Lamar is doing. If Lamar was not making the move, I think they would have stopped all this FBS talk by now. There is no rush, as frustrating as it is, to announce today. I'd start worrying after April is nothing is announced. The WAC forum has not researched Lamar. Many there believe Lamar is a start up program instead of a return to football school. Many there don't know Lamar was in the same conference with Central Florida, North Texas, and ULL. Many there don't know Lamar was once in the Sunbelt. Many there don't know Lamar played at FBS level. They think Lamar is an academically low school. They don't know Lamar is one of the top engineering schools and 1 of only 17 doctoral research schools nation wide. Also on the track for Tier 1.

On track for tier one? - Negative. Here is a list of future Tier one schools: UTA, Texas Tech, UTSA, U of H, UNT, UTD
You fruit of the looms don't know nothing about nothing. A phrase i use here often. Lamar is on track for tier 1. Lamar is lagging behind the schools you mentioned. It was announced a few years ago and I posted it on the other Lamar forum before it shut down. Lamar tier 1 won't happen over night. Lamar will be an 80 million dollar research. UT-Austin is 300 million in comparison. Texas wants the school named after the Father of Education to be tier 1.

I forgot that UNLV made that post. Everyone knows that everything UNLV posts lacks credence...
Nah, I don't agree with everything UNLV post but some of his comments have merit.

Wow, that is surprising as Lamar brought a .180 batting average into this game. Go Cards! -
Dang, you guy got a pretty good schedule with most of your difficult games at home. I see you losing to McNeese in Lake Charles but SHSU could win the conference if you get past SFA. Lamar will be better than you think on defense and your stud RB won't be running all over this team compared to last season as there were a couple of red-shirt guys who will added to the defense like Blake Chavis who is Billy Chavis brother and signed with A&M out of HS and and will likely start at one defensive end. Then another A&M transfer, Dorsey who is sitting out spring drills due to a back injury will probably start in the D - Line as he is athletic and big at about 300lbs. Then we have an Iowa transfer in Coleman who is looking like a beast this spring who will start in the D - line. The LB's have played together since junior college and we should get Anthony Beard back from injury at LB who is a transfer from SMU. We have a athletic and experienced defensive backfield with one starter Branden Thomas timed at 4.3 in the forty and returned one INT for a pick 6 last season. I know a lot of people don't think there are many players who can run 4.3 but he wasn't timed by a HS coach but by a strength and conditioning coach at the college level. All our starting DB are returning and they compete with a passing offense every day in practice. So, I agree we addressed several needs on the offensive side of the ball in recruiting especially in the O - line and another running back. Then added West Virginia transfer in Jeremy Johnson who is in a very competitive battle for the starting QB position which may not be settled until the fall. There are 4 guys who are really competing and each brings something different to the table. We are going to be a lot better than last season and the two losses I talked about us losing by 9 points last season was, one McNeese by 3 and Georgia State by 6 both being on the road.
-
Your right, I misread JJ's post but he is still a little off as it (football program) was dorment for not just 10 + seasons but more like 20+ years. BTW, we lost 2 games by a total of 9 points so we were close to being 7-4 instead of 5-6. Really, for our first year outside SFA we were pretty good. I think you'll see drastic improvement in all phases of the Cardinals football team this year. Interested in SHSU football schedule but it has yet to be released.
-
I was with you until the last sentence. We couldn't be a doormat for 10+ year if this is just our second year of the program. Secondly, this defense is going to be a lot better than you think because they will have played in the 4-2-5 scheme for a year. A few of the guys played other positions in the past and will have a second season at their position. Then you can't put a limit to the amount of improvement being able to workout in the new Athletic Complex will have on the whole team. The weight and conditioning facility is really aweome as I have been able to see it first hand. This team with over 20 seniors will do better the TT prediction of 4-7 but probably not as good as my wishful 8-3. BTW, there are still a couple of scholarships open and if a good RB becomes available Lamar will sign them.
-
Agree, I don't see us winning at SFA for all the reasons you listed.
-
Jack, thanks for the information as it makes a lot of sense with a few people who frequent this forum having knowledge of the possible move to the WAC. BTW, I posted that Billy Tubbs was in Dallas at the time of the WAC meetings.
bigred - I was not 'smiting' you - if you were indicating that...
I wonder why Lamar chose to drop the South Dakota game with a $100K buyout fee and not Texas State which wouldn't have cost Lamar a penny? Maybe dropping the Texas State game wouldn't have set well in the eyes of the WAC?
If Lamar put it out there that they were willing to drop that game, they must have looked into the possibilities of doing so. Lamar's best bet would be to move the USD game back a year when they have seven SLC games instead of eight, that way you avoid the buyout likely too...
Nah, TT I know it wasn't you. Some of my fellow Red Bird faithful didn't like a few of my post on this subject. Well, I guess you live and learn, right? 8) -

Heck, Lamar would have had to notify them in December that they were not going to return the game this season. Last I heard Coach Tidwell was attempting to schedule them in a future year. Seems I'm getting beat to death with smites about this subject! :D :D -
They said Tubbs was voted Coach of the Year in 83 and 85, but I looked up the AP Coach of the Year, and it listed Guy Lewis (83) and Bill Frieder (85). What organization gave him the award?
Tubbs was the Big Eight Coach of the Year in 1984, 1985, 1988 and 1989, and was named Basketball Weekly National Coach of the Year in 1983 and 1985. TT, remember when Lamar and TCU were attempting to schedule a game. That was over a month ago and I'm confident that the SD game was going to be nixed then. After the NCAA ruled against the TCU-Lamar game, Lamar scheduled a home game with IW. Coach Tidwell has over 35 years of coaching experience with several of those years in the college ranks. I think he knows the right way to do things like backing out of a contract. He just got the full time AD position so I doubt he wants to do anything to make Dr. Simmons think twice about his decision on Coach Tidwell as the AD at Lamar University. Yes, this is SETXsports.com and I think its a sports forum. I just thought making it personal, you could see that you nor I am perfect; neither is Coach Woodard or Coach Tidwell. Sorry, I thought you could empathize with the administration at Lamar. You don't make it personal every time you talk negative about Jeremy Johnson? You are judging the actions of Coach Tidwell and Coach Woodard. You don't know me so I could care less if you judge me or not. I'm not going to list all my accomplishments just to be okay with you. BTW, I'm sure Coach Tidwell and Coach Woodard don't care that you think they were wrong about dropping the SD game and I heard Coach Tidwell state, "Anyone that doesn't like it can contact me." So there you are, call him or give him a email. Did he call you to ask if it was okay? Now, I'll close with SD will probably get $100,000 from Lamar because of the negative publicity coming from their AD. I doubt we will schedule them in the future. Now, please let's move on. I will, can you? -

Man, there is no reason to keep this debate going as you and puddin can think what you want. Again, there was a contract and both schools signed it and there was a buyout clause. I don't have a problem with it, the two of you do. That is cool with me. Now, that is funny "you better be careful". Get real. I believe it was you. ::) -

I called them and told them of my personal issues and the reason I was going with St E and they wished me the best with my father. We'll, obviously Coach Tidwell and Coach Woodard thought is was the right thing to do in adding an additional home game and dropping SD.
Just looks like you are putting your resume on this site.....I have a hard enough time getting my HS kids to believe that your word means something, and then Lamar pulls this.....
My resume, you are kidding, right? I just named the places I've worked the past 15 years. I didn't list salary, job duties and etc. I'm not making it personal. You guys are by calling out the AD at Lamar University and if my memory serves me correct one of you also had problems with Coach Tubbs. You might want to look at your on lives before you judge another man. Then posting them on a public forum. -
well, thats an apple to oranges analogy buy taking job B, are you putting the other company in a bad spot? are you paying company A to get out of the contract? this isnt the first time SD has been hosed down south...think they are ever going to wanna come back? Better hope company B works out for ya....aint getting any references from Ole company A like I said before, I have nothing against playing IW...but SD go hosed
No, it isn't money is green isn't it? There is no difference as "your word is your word", right? I'm sure if there was a signing bonus you would have to pay company A back. Company B has worked out great for me, as I had a job in Houston at Hermann Memorial, then Christus called and offered more and I was able to be closer to my father who was dying of cancer. If it wasn't for personal issues, I was perfectly happy at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. ;) As for references, I'm doing pretty good as I've worked for Baylor Medical Center, Harris Methodist and Christus St.Elizabeth. Three Top 100 hospitals in the US and my nursing school was #1 in the state of Texas. I would post my GPA, but that would probably be bragging too much. :D :D
