1. According to the books the annual "Battle of the Ax" is the oldest continual high school football rivalry in the state of Texas. First game was played in 1906. Since 1912, there have only been five years in which the game was not played, three of which were during World War I. 1949 was the first year in which the Ax was awarded to the winner of the game. Sherman High School (Sherman, TX) 59 victories Denison High School (Denison, TX) 35 victories (Denison 43, Sherman 28 2009) (Six games ended in a tie)

3. OMG, now hear this, it doesn't matter who beat who when and where, and whose jock was out of whack at what time. It only matters who wins on Saturday. And if anyone directly involved is making any plans based on anything that happened ten weeks ago, they need to turn in their resignation ASAP. Brenham is not Friendswood. And Dayton is not Waller. Come 6 PM Saturday Night, The Dayton Broncos and the Brenham Cubs are going to take the field, and may the best team win. That's it, plain and simple. And all this who shot Joe crap is going to mean nothing. Best of luck to both team, But I am going to be there representing my district, in hopes the best team from out district this year, will advance to the next bracket. And if they don't so be it, and all that's left is for me to root for the best of region three to win it all. Save some energy for the actual game, and don't blow it on the school yard......
4. You can't go by the Chronicle, those goobers actually believe in the Texans.......jeesh!
5. Glad I could be of service here's tractor supply link [Hidden Content]
6. Tractors Supply has some usually, call first, but if you want to poor boy it in a pinch, a one pound metal coffee can a short piece of shoelace and a 3/4" washer. Take a 16 penny nail or a Phillips head screwdriver you are not real fond of, and poke a hole in the center of the can bottom. Pull the shoelace through and tie the washer on the end hanging out of the open top. Pull the slack through the bottom till the washer if 3/4 to 1/2 way up inside the can while dangling. Tie a knot at the base of the bottom, and cut off the excess. Bingo, poorboy cowbell. Some people use soup cans, but nothing rings like Folgers or Community.
7. Well I hope both teams are up for this, this is going to be one for the books. I am sure Fiendswood, Katy, and Cinco Ranch will be drawing all the media spotlight to their deal, as they always do, but it would be nice if Channel 2 would get off their duffs and give these young men some descent positive publicity. These hack reporters around Houston try, but never really do them justice. But these two schools regrettably are too far outside the Beltway, to get a fair shake in the media. However, the cold weather is upon us, and it's going to be a perfect setting for some smash-mouth, good old fashion Texas High School Football. Hang on folks this one is gonna be good. Best of luck to both teams, and let them know down in Houston what a great game they will be missing.
8. Get there early if you want a seat, money says they over sell the seating.....
9. If your looking for Bear, it's about 51 miles East on Hwy 105, no appointment necessary......
10. It takes no leap of faith, nor does it take a lot of effort, to show a little class, and take your losses as well as your wins. But it does take the Man to stand tall and be better because of it.
11.

Brenham wins this one. Dayton will be outclassed and outcoached.
OUTCLASSED and OUTCOACHED? Really? Now that was a low blow. These are kids you are talking about. What rock did u slither out from under?
I said this in another thread, concerning a game leading up to this one.
Well if you saw the way some of the Angleton Assistant Coaches conducted themselves on the sidelines, it will shed a little light on the way the players acted. Finis Vanover usually keeps a pretty tidy ship, but there was a lot of that street thug BS going on that really should be left off the field. And that goes for any team, the gridiron is a battlefield, but it is also a place of respect.  I don't expect that in the Dayton Game, I have never seen anything but a class act come out of there.
I meant every word of it. Never seen ANYTHING but a class act come out of Dayton High School. Jerry Stewart is as classy as they come, he's not always a sweetheart, but he's straight up and no nonsense. Here's a good article on him, and a kid who I am really pulling for down the road, because he is just a really great kid, great skills and even better attitude. [Hidden Content] Like I said before, I expect this to be one of the great games of this year, maybe any year. Truckloads of talent are going to take the field on both sides, and it will be the one to see. I met a lot of really great Dayton fans after our loss to Crosby at Leonard Stadium, they gave Waller a beating on the field, but were top shelf fans and players off the field. I have a lot of friends kids playing in this game, and look forward to the show.
12. www.kbtx.com/home/headlines/77902307.html Has a short video, different from the Chron
13. Crunch numbers, pull out the Ouiji Boards, call the Amazing Kreskin for his prediction, whatever you want. Folk this is going to be the ticket to see. This game should be televised, it's going to be that good, and definately better than the Texans game.

15. Yeah it had a good view of the cheap shot #51 of Angleton gave Green after the winning score, forearm to the back of the head when he was on the ground in the endzone. Everyone wants to talk about Brenham's unsportsman like conduct, but they always seem to overlook this kind of stuff.
16. And you better get them in advance, the house will be packed
17. Highly recommend getting your tickets in advance, the stadium holds just under 10,000 people and Brenham and Dayton fans travel with their team. It is going to be packed, standing room only. They really should have put this game in a bigger venue. This match up is a rematch of last year, and it is going to be rocking in Rhodes Stadium Saturday Night, you can count on that.
18. 19. This game is going to be a battle to the last second. Two head coaches with great schemes, and truckload of great athletes on both sides. First and for most Dayton has to get pressure on Ty Schlottmann, if they don't it's going to be a long day. We shut down their offense with pressure, but don't think knocking Schlottmann out of the game would be a sure thing, because Brenham has depth, Senior Michael Buro is the back and he would start on most any other team. H proved his worth by coming in and throwing a TD pass in the third qtr. Brenham is 2 deep in all the key positions. They can keep fresh legs on the field. The history between these two teams will fuel some players, two step up. Dayton has a lot of speed, and even a bigger heart, this will be won or lost at the line of scrimmage. Dayton has a quick swarming D-line they need all they can get. This will be one to tune in to, I may make the trip just to see this one. These are the two strongest teams left in the playoffs as far as I am concerned, this one will be big for both teams and coaches. But I am leaning towards our district, Cubs by a touchdown 21-14.
20.

Manvel swarmed the run, kept pressure on Diggs and beat Angleton pretty soundly, if you watch the tapes you can see it can be done. Angleton has a weak pass defense, it's secondary is questionable. Brenham has a good balanced offense and that QB can pick apart a weak secondary if he has blocking. Brenham has a great pass defense and a really defend the run well too. Ask PNG. If Angleton does execute just right Brenham will pull this one out. The Cubs are a very opportunistic team, and force a lot of turnovers. However if they can't keep pressure on Diggs it is going to be a long day.
Angleton has a good pass defense not one QB has had a field day on them through the air. And they have faced some good passing teams friendswood, dawson, la marque, dickinson, and sam carter from alief hastings, even the jones qb had threw for over 2000 yards during the season and only got 70 on saturday. This defense is just peaking. They've only given up more then 14 points 3 times. Even manvel only got 14 on the defense they had 1 special teams td and a fumble return for a td. The defense as a whole is very good.
Wow what happened there Wildcat979, not hearing a whole lot anymore. **crickets** 22 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to put the cats asleep. Tried to warn you about that on dimensional offense, it's pretty easy to adjust for. Diggs may be a phenom and I take nothing from that kid, he is a hoss, but it takes eleven on the field to do what needs to be done, this deep in the playoffs. Brenham plays the full deal, run, pass, and defense. I told you Ty Schlottmann (15-of-26 passing, 226 yards) was the real deal. He is one of the best QB's in the state. Highly under-rated. The defense came out in the second half and shuts down the Cats and set the pace for the comeback. Coaches made some great adjustments and play calling, and the rest is history. So much for what the experts say, all their prediction brackets are shot to heck now. Not one picked Brenham, based on their loss to Waller. Just like the ole cliche' says, "On Any Given Sunday the Team that shows up to win will do so." What's not so surprising is Brenham pulls that trick play once a game almost every game. Glen West make ballsy calls like that all the time. There was just over two minutes left in the game and the Wildcats needed a QB that can pass, and it just wasn't there. And that second half defense, I just have one question, With it obvious Brenham isn't going to run the ball in the fourth quarter, how is it that Angleton NEVER put a one (much less two) safeties 15 yards deep. Angleton's back-up corners were out on an island by themselves. Ty Schlottmann will tear man coverage up all day long, he looks off receivers and sees the entire field. Angleton lost in the third round last year to Beaumont Central in the same fashion - not having a safety deep when they knew the other team was going to throw the ball. Angleton beat three teams this year who are in the regional finals, while they are stopped short again. Something in that scheme is going to have to change, or this vicious cycle will continue.
21. Hat's off for these great young men for doing such a selfless act, to save lives. N.L. Hines, Aaron Jenkins, Victor Blanco and Theo Edwards you all should be very proud, just a really great thing you guys have done. Just can't say it enough, great job gentleman. Not many people have the courage to do what the four of you did that night. You went out of your way at great personal risk to help another human being in need without any moral or legal obligation to do so. Many adults these days would look the other way or merely call 911 and expect a accolade. You men chose to act and save lives. The military calls people like that hero's. I'm sure your families, school, church, and entire community are very proud.
22. Well it's kind of a given, that every game is won or lost at the line of scrimmage, I think both of these teams are pretty well matched there. It's going to take something extra to overcome. Angleton is favored on all the brackets, by the writers and scouts. But there is only five points difference in scored points/game in favor of Angleton (36 pts/gm), and eight points difference in points allowed/game in favor of Brenham (13 pts/gm), so it's a toss up looking at stats. I think the difference will come from smart play and heart. Ball control is going to be a must. School       Q1     Q2     Q3     Q4        Final Angleton    11.6   9.0    10.0     6.8      36.5 Brenham    10.1   10.6    7.7     3.5      31.8 Angleton by a touchdown that's what the experts are saying Everyday count, but only one night matters, and that's game night. This will be the game to watch.......
23. The secret to Angleton's Defense lies in the D-line pressure. A short yardage passing scheme will keep the secondary chasing their tails. They are not great a man coverage and a zone canbe picked apart if the QB has time to choose his receiver. If Brenham line can protect Ty Schlottman they have half the war won. Brenham has a very good run defense, and if you think a 39.7 yards per game passing average isn't going to be easy to key on the run, well let's just wait and see. I take nothing from Diggs, he's a phenominal athlete, and gifted runner. But he's the leading rusher and him and Josey make up 75% of the offense. It's tough to figure out who's going to carry the ball isn't it. Like I said before, The Cubs are a very opportunistic team, and force a lot of turnovers. That will be key in this game, I am almost certain. Turnovers will be the difference for one team or another. Both teams have turnover ratios in the same ballpark, hard to compare since Diggs only has 18 completions all year and only 50 attempts. But time will tell.....
