Oh everyone this side of Houston knows what kind of program brehnam has year in and year out. But I think the Bulldogs are looking for a rematch of that great 3 game series from last years playoffs. Nederland should have another great team as well. I think Nederland or Brehnam comes out of Region 3 this year easy.

I couldn't agree more...This might sound selfish but I'm tired of just making it to the semi finals or to the championship and losing.  Winning the region is great and all but it gets old if you don't have a title to go with it.  In 2009 we won the region in baseball, track, cross country, soccer and girls soccer, along with becoming state finalist in football and volleyball.  I don't know weather to consider those things an accomplishment or to accept all of the choking?!  All I know is, that we need to come through the next time we're in that position.  Do you know if y'all are playing in the Brenham tournament?  I wanna check Nederland out before we see y'all in the playoffs?  Have you seen Brenham's junior SS, Drake Roberts?  That kid is out of this world good.  He's been commited to Arkansas since he was a freshman.
2. Montgomery- I got to see Dobbins, a first team all state HB; not to mention it came down to the final seconds.  14-7
Waller- It was a game that brought us back down to earth with a 1 point loss...fuel for the playoffs.  14-15
PNG- I saw my cubs almost blow a 20-0 lead, only to hang on at the end with a late interception.  27-21
Anglton- This was my favorite, as Brenham was down 21-0 at the half and it seemed like our season would end after this game.  In the second half we somehow slowed Angleton down and slowly made their come back.  With a few miutes left, coach West rolled the dice, with a fake fg.  The fg would have tied it, but after getting the 1st down, the next play we scored and went up 32-28.  Angleton had one more chance on a deep pass, but once again it was picked off.  32-28
Dayton- It was the rematch I'd waited a year to see.  Finally, a chance to redeem the 2008 blowout.  By half time we trailed again 14-0.  Dayton scored again and went up, 17-0.  Brenham didn't give up and started scoring and causing turnovers.  For the third week in a row a late interception sealed the deal.  30-24.
Aledo- After beating Tivy by 10 we were sceduled to make our second title appearance.  Aledo got out to a 14-0 lead, but once again we came back.  At the half it was 21-14, and our title was being taken away by a sophomore.  Gray, the sophomore, was also a first team all state HB.  After going down 28-14, we scored to make it 28-21.  With under 5 minutes left, we drove down to the Aledo 9 after starting at our own 20.  On 4th and 1 with 2 minutes left, West called a run up the middle.  It looked to be close, but was just short of the first down.  Three plays later, Gray broke free for a 89 yard td run, making it 35-21 and putting the last nail in the coffin.  35-21

All and all, it was a great season and next year looks promising.

They might suck, but if the stay at the top of Herschel Simms list of schools, they won't for long.  He's prolly best recruit in the state and he just a junior.  It doesn't hurt that OU cantacts him twice a week.  His style is alot like Adrian Peterson's.  Could be a future problem for other big 12 schools.

Nooooooooooo!! Oklahoma has and always will suck because of two things. The O and the U

Not really, I joined setxsports.com at the begining of the high school playoffs.  I'm not an OU fan or a Horn.  I'm an aggie and a wolverine fan.

Aledo was the real deal and will be that way for 2 more years...

yea and so will brenham. most of there playmakers were sophomores and juniors.
I agree and I hope it didn't look like I was dissing Brenham...These two teams will be be in the hunt the next two years....Going to be fun to watch!
Not at all...maybe by then we will have as much support for our football team, as we do for our baseball team.

Mark & the Brenham guys: glad you found your way here.!  :)  Visit again!

Ya, me too....I love football and anything that has to deal with it, so as long as football isbeing discussed on here, I'll be right in the middle of it.  I want to thank everybody that welcomed us, including the great friends i've made on here.  I wish we had something like this closer to Brenham, but since we don't, you guys will find me on here.  Thanks for the support against Tivy and Aledo.  Our boys gave it all the had, and unfortunatly we came up just short...literaly.  It will be a fight to get back there, but we will be up for the challenge next year.  I'm interested to see this turf that they are working on at Cub Stadium.  Should be beautiful.

It's always fun to watch losers from the same district join forces.  Of course, you both have the same thing in common, getting beat by the coogs this year.
Too bad we didn't get to show your "superstar" Merka what a D1 defense looks like.  We beat him last year on what alot of people said was a rebuilding year for us.  Maybe next year?  I'm sure growing up watching Crosby, he's seen Dayton spank them year in and year out.  So they beat Dayton once recently, in a fluke game, but couldn't get by a second year program in the playoff, even with the most talent they will ever have.  Looking at the last 10 years or so of Crosby vs Dayton, you can't even call it a rivalry, due to the fact that Crosby doesn't win enough.  Crosby football is simply not on the same level.  They usually don't make it through the second round, where Dayton year in and year out is in the quarters or semis.  Even last year one of Crosby's better runs, Dayton still made it a game further and that was after losing Green and Dugat.
8.
Should hear a lot from both these teams over the next couple of years.  The fact that we are going to get to enjoy Mr. Grey and Mr. Bishop for the next two years is amazing.  There are numerous other juniors and sophomores that will be returning as well.  What is going to hurt is having to replace Michael Williams, Danny Heiss and Dillon Hawkins.  They may not get all the praise that JGrey does but they have been keys to our success.

And how about Trey Ozee.  He is fantastic young man that is a real leader on this team.  Not a lot of players would have responded the way he did when he went out early in the season and by the time he came back found that his job had been given to a sophomore.  He certainly contributed in his new position for the rest of the season and was a big part of the overall success.  The fact that he got to start his last high school game in his old position and then put us in a position to win was just a fantastic end for a great kid!

Brenham was a great team with great fans and I would not be surprised if our paths cross again over the next few years.  Congrats for a fantastic season!
Amen to that....I would be surprised if both teams arnt playing in atleast the quarter finals within the next 2 years.
9. Ty Schlottmann (QB) Derek Edwards (WR) and Desmond Mathis (CB) are all D1 recruits that will be seniors.  We also have 4 other D1 recruits that will be juniors in, Troy Green (HB), Jesse Baker (OLB), Tim Cole (OLB), Robert Felder (CB).  Malcolm Brown (DT) (will be a junior) is 6-3, 285 and by the end of the offseason, he will prolly be joining the list.  That's just our D1 talent that's returning, their are lots of others as well.  Brenham will be pretty stacked.  At the start of the 09' season we had 3 D1 recruits.  In 2010 we will have atleast 7 maybe 8, with 4 or 5 of them only being juniors.  From what I unnderstand, PNG, Dayton and Montgomery should be pretty good next year as well.  In other words region 3 should be interesting. I can't wait.

1942- Brenham went 12-0, beating Alamo Hieghts 14-13 in the regional final.  They wern't crowned state champs because that was as far as a 1A school was allowed to go.
1971- Brenham went 13-1, losing to Gregory Portland in the semi finals 49-22.
1972- Brenham went 13-1 losing to Uvalde 27-21 in the semi finals on trick play, as time expired.
2002- Brenham went 14-2 losing to Denton Ryan in the state championship game 38-8.
2005- Brenham went 14-1 losing to Corpus Cristi Calallen, 31-17 in the semi finals.
2009- Brenham went 13-3 losing to Aledo, 35-21 in the state championship.

Yes, I know that there are post season accolades, recruiting and all-star games to come.  But hey, when the last competitive down of playoff football has been played, it is time to close the chapter.

Of course, congratulations to players, coaches, support staff, and communities all of those teams, whether public or private, who were able to navigate their way to their respective state championships.  It is a long and arduous journey and your perserverance and success should be marveled at by all.  However, the congratulations should not and do not stop there.

All of the young men from the communities that make up South East Texas who put a football uniform deserve them as well.  These young men, whether they played for the largest school in umbrella, Beaumont West Brook, or the smallest, Chester, or any size in between, deserve them as they made the commitment to represent their individual communities and Southeast Texas as a whole.  I for one am here to tell them that regardless of the won-loss record that may have resulted, that they are have done us proud.  Some of these gentlemen will be back next year in the very same uniforms, some will go on to play at the college level and even perhaps, in the NFL...but many of them will never put on a pair of football cleats ever again.  Regardless, I would like to thank them for allowing us to look into their lives and entertaining us on the past few Thursday, Friday and Saturday's.

Congratulations go out to the coaches who guided them as well.  These people, not for the money, but for the love of this game and the young men who surrounded them, have taken it upon themselves to guide these young men.  And they have have allowed themselves to judged depending on the collective results of teenagers.  Some may not seem patient but that is probably only because the abundant amount patience finally gave out.  That they have taken on the role as surrogate, and sometimes, sole, caretakers of these young guys should be enough to earn our thanks, but all too often in a result oriented world, they get our scorn.  For their ability to forge on despite that, they earn my respect.

To the parents, the sacrifices that you have made can never be measured.  And the bands, cheerleaders, drill teams and booster, thank you for making our entertainment complete and providing us with the exciting atmosphere that is Texas High School Football.

This is my first full football season as a mod/admin at setxsports.com and it has been a blast.  There are many who made it so fun.

My OT Scoreboard Show broadcast partner and the board owner, Jordan Wilson.  Words cannot express the gratitude that all of us have for your efforts in putting this little playpen together for all of us to play in.  We undoubtedly take it for granted but know that your vision and hard work are appreciated.

My buddy and fellow WO-S fan KFDMCOOP who has been after me for at least 3 years now to join the staff.  I'm grateful that you never gave up.

To my guide, bobcatfan4life.  He had said at the beginning of the season he said he was stepping back, but he was never far way.  AND THANK GOD FOR THAT!  Because goodness knows I needed him often.

To the broadcasters during the football season, Gabe, Joey and Corey, Mike and Tim, Bobby and Donnie, Kent and Dave, Jereme, Dennis, Adam, Coach Brack and Dennis Sedtal.  Thanks guy for entertaining me on Monday and Friday nights.  You guys made it sound so easy when I know for certain that it wasn't.

To my correspondents, who dutifully got scores to me during the season and made my job in updating the scores a lot easier:

And on behalf of the staff, thanks to all of you fans and supporters of the setx schools for making setxsports.com part of you day during the football season as well as those fans who were from schools from outside of our area who chimed in from time to time....we may have not always acted like it, but we were glad to have you here.  We will rest, but we will not be far as we will keep you apprised on the post season awards, including the Willie Ray Smith Awards and the colleges our young men are moving on to.  The rest will be also shorter than usual as setxsports.com will bring to you LIVE the UIL Realignment on February 1.   And of course, THIS FORUM NEVER GOES DORMANT SO KEEP THE TOPICS COMING.

It has been a fun year and I look forward to many more!!!

Are you kidding? Crosby wont schedule Brenham or Dayton unless they get unlucky and get Dayton back in district. I kinda hope that Dayton and Crosby are in different districts because it sure makes alot of fun to beat the (insert four letter word here) out of them in the first round of the playoffs.
Lol  Your prolly right.  That would be penciling in an early loss for them.  It would help them get use to what they will see in the playoffs.  That's what we do, schedule somebody like 5A Lamar.  It would help them out.
16. Hey, here's an idea....maybe Crosby should try to schedule Brenham in the next year or 2.  I heard something about D1 recruits, good coaching and success.  I've seen Crosby and while they're not a bad football team, they're no where near the level of Brenham or Dayton in any of those 3 categories.  Look at the recent resumes of the 3.  Dayton and Brenham have both made deep playoff runs lately, including both teams making appearances in the state championship.  Crosby is good, but not on that level.  Ya, Crosby beat Dayton 28-0, but the post season is alot more important and it's where Crosby always falls short and Brenham and Dayton shine.  A big part of this is prolly coaching.  While Crosby has some D1 talent, it's not much as Brenham or Dayton.  Not even close.  I know Merka is yalls star, but if Brenham plays Crosby next year, we have a defense that is full of D1 talent, that will make him look like a fish out of water.  Both OLB's are D1 sophomores, we have a D1 CB who is a junior and by the end of the offseason, Malcolm Brown will prolly be on the D1 list as well.  Pretty good on offense too, as we will have D1 talent in, Ty Schlottmann, Troy Green and I'm sure you've heard of Derek Edwards?  Hopefully we will get to play y'all next year, but y'all are going to have to step it up or else get use to seeing Brenham vs Dayton in the region 3 championship.
