Didn't even list Richardson from Lee as players to watch.......possibly the best athlete in the district......just on a crappy team.
On the 17-A article, they didn't list Tim Cole as a top player. ::) (He's a 4 star recruit listed as the #17 OLB in the nation, according to scout.com.) The chronicle misses a lot of stuff. *Notice, they said the Dayton vs BH game is gonna be for the district championship. -

Your Team's Toughest Matchups
BrenhamFan replied to PN-G bamatex's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
1. Stratford (Home)- IMO, this is one of the most underrated teams in 4A. Last year we trailed the whole game before coming back and winning by 3. They return 2 D1 starters in the secondary, and have a D1 QB with some size that has transferred from a private school. This game will probably decide who wins the district. It's also the last game of the year, and it will be infront of a packed Cub stadium. All time, we are 1-0 against the Spartans. 2. Lamar (Away)- This is a large 5A school, that reloads D1 talent every year. They are a very athletic bunch, with a lot of size. This is usually our toughest game, but they lost a lot, including a pretty good QB, HB, CB & DT. Even losing that much D1 talent, they still have 4 or 5 more on their roster. Before the playoffs last year, we were the only loss on their schedule. All time were 2-2 against the Redskins, with the home team winning every time. (It's an away game this year.) 3. Montgomery (Away)- They lost Dobbins and Bolfing, they are far from a pushover. They are returning a physical HB in House, got lots of experience last year, between the lopsided wins and Dobbins injurys. Not sure how good their new QB is, but he does have 2 good WR's to throw to. The defense ain't too bad and it being an away game will make it a little tougher. All time were 10-0 against the Bears. 4. Lamar Consolidated (Away)- Considering this is the game that LHN wanted to broadcast, I'm assuming the Mustangs will be somewhat of a challenge. They are always an athletic bunch, and are the last Houston area team to win a state title. All time were 9-14 against the Mustangs. 5. Magnolia West (Away)- This game is kind of hard to judge. It reminds me of the Dayton vs BH game. Dayton beat BH 54-0, last year so even though they look like the second best team in 19-4A on paper, it's hard to take them seriously. MW looks better and better every year, and most of the district has noticed. However, we beat MW 55-0 last year, 28-7 the year before and 30-0 the first year we played them. If I remember correctly, the Brenham defense held this team to -27 yards of total offense last year. Nevertheless, they were a playoff team last year, and lost to a pretty good Willis team by 1, who they beat earlier in the season by 10. They feature a HB who finished 2nd in the Houston area in total yards, only behind La Marque's Tim Wright. All time were 3-0 against the Mustangs. 6. Huntsville (Home)- It's a good thing that the Hornets are returning their QB, LB and their best player Ford the HB. They will need all of the help the can get, as they are scheduled as Brenham's first opponent, since the Cubs embarrassing first round upset last year to Kingwood Park. I'm sure coach West will make sure to mention that Huntsville is in KP's district, and that we need to send a message to 18-4A, and the rest of the state. They have a new offensive coordinator who is installing a no huddle offense, and I'm not sure it will be ready in 2 weeks. To make it even harder on the Hornets, the game is in ice creamland. All time were 19-20-2 against the Hornets. 7. Waller (Home)- Even though the battle of the Brazos will be in Brenham this year, it doesn't matter much. It's a 30 minute drive (closest school on our schedule) and these two teams flat out don't like each other. You put those 2 things together and you have a rivalry. Everybody knows anything can happen in a rivalry game. (Look at the upset Waller pulled off 2 years ago) All time were 21-7 against the Bulldogs. 8. Magnolia (Away)- this team has been on a downward spiral over the last couple of years. We put up 72 against them last year, and I'm sure our back ups will see a lot of playing time this year as well. All time were 17-7 against the Bulldogs. 9. Northbrook (Home)- A new coach is not usually a success his first year and I don't think this will be an exception. Back ups will see a lot of time in this one. All time were 1-0 against the Raiders. 10. Spring Woods (Away)- Back ups will see a lot of time in this one also. All time were 1-0 against the Tigers. -
While I agree it's hot and was hot in the 60's we were all on grass.Even though you practice now after 5 pm just put a thermometer down on a art.turf field surrounded by a black track surface surrounded by a large set of alum.bleachers that's blocking the natural wind flow.Guarantee it's much hotter.Walked across the turf and could feel the heat through my purple tennis shoes ;)
We practice on real grass by the HS. We've never used our actual stadium for practice.

The first round of the playoffs. 7. "The Hill is for Real!" Need I say more? 6. Smoking baby. Again, need I say more? 5. Dayton. 4. Is it Mont Belvieu or Mount Bellview? ;D (Don't ask a Dayton fan.... :D) 3. Despite coaching changes for both teams, games in four separate stadiums and brand new playbooks, BH still lost to PN-G four times in three years. 2. The uniforms. 1. Dayton again.
I don't know of many that still do that. But, the ones I've heard of are keeping it pretty brief and the water breaks are frequent (every 10-15 min). People work in this stuff for hours a day. It can be done when the proper measures are taken. Coaches are much smarter about hydration, etc. than in years past.
We're one of the schools that still do it, but coaches have been very cautious. The first practice of the day starts aound 6:30 AM & our second practice starts at 5:00 PM. That way we can avoid the heat of the day.

Lets push our network and our weight around until someone leaves, blows up this conference, we go indy and whoever leaves first gets the blame. And if not we get everything we want in this conference. This Network was setup for UT to go independent, just when it happens I don't think they arfe in a hurry, but they know it is going to happen! (Here's how Huntsville compares to Brenham so far) Article from the Huntsville Item Varsity veterans like Aundra Long and Daniel Hazlewood admitted they were a little surprised by what took place on the practice fields at Huntsville High School on Monday evening. Guys were racing to the football, throwing it well, catching it, too. “I thought we did really, really well,†said Long, one of the top returning players on the Hornets’ offensive line. “I was glad to see everybody moving and everybody hustling. You can tell everybody wants to be good this year by the effort they gave today.†Hazlewood, the Hornets’ starting quarterback, looked like a little kid after practice. He was more than a little fired up about the team’s precision both offensively and defensively. “It was so tight. Our tempo was so tight,†Hazlewood said. “The tempo was like bang, bang, bang — it was just clicking. I loved what I saw. Just imagine what we’re going to look like three weeks into this.†Like the players, the Hornets’ head coach, a hard man to please, was thrilled with what he witnessed during his team’s three-hour-plus workout. “I was very, very impressed with the way practice went today,†coach Shane Martin said. “I was most impressed by how the kids handled everything. That was a great first day, one of the best first days I’ve ever had in my coaching career. “We came here today with a sense of urgency and we got a lot of work done. It just seemed like a whole new group out there.†Martin and his assistant coaches told the Hornets a few months ago that things were going to speed up this season. Huntsville, which went 4-7 last season and lost to Montgomery in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs, hopes to use its speed to wear out opponents on both offense and defense. The players seem to like that game plan, as they flew around all evening, starting with a 90-minute defensive session and finishing with a 90-minute offensive workout. Even after running a 10-minute no-huddle offensive set, called NASCAR by new coordinator Mike Martinez, the Hornets kept their chin straps buckled and ran hard through their brief end-of-workout wind sprints. “We’re speeding everything up,†Long said. “We want to keep other teams on their heels.†“Yeah, we’re going to tire them out,†said linebacker Bridge Blount. “Today, we looked strong and we looked fast. Even though we were all tired, we worked through it because we want to play deep into December.†Keep practicing like they did on the first day and Martin says the Hornets can accomplish their lofty goals this season. The players held a team meeting following the lopsided loss to Montgomery last fall and committed themselves to making the 2011 season better and more memorable. So far, so good, say the players and coaches who left the practice field exhausted but content late Monday night. “That hard work that started with these kids after the Montgomery game, all that hard work they put in until May,†Martin said, “sometimes that seems to go away. That didn’t happen with these guys. They lifted and ran during the summer. And today, everybody from the biggest lineman to the skinniest skill guy, they were running full blast all over the field. That made me feel good to be part of the Hornets.†The Hornets will work out three more nights in T-shirts, shorts and helmets. Then on Friday morning, they’ll put on shoulder pads and pants and start hitting. Martin wants to see three more workouts like the one Monday. If the Hornets can do that, they’ll be in great shape, the coach says, for Saturday’s intrasquad scrimmage scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with the freshman teams. “I want us to eliminate our busts offensively and defensively over the next couple of days,†Martin said. “You do that by practicing hard and polishing what you’ve learned. I want to be ready for that first day of pads, not just so we can go knock the snot out of each other, but so we can have a controlled, productive workout Friday morning. “If we do that, Saturday should be a great day for our Green and White watermelon scrimmage. Every day is a great day when you’re on that grass playing and coaching football.†::)
