  1. Heheh Newton was similarly represented in 2005 after winning the title.
  2. They should be out shortly now that everyone is finished.
  3. what the crowd sees from the stands and what you see on the sideline are completely different...there were 3 calls, personal foul calls, that were completely superfluous...two of them involved players tripping over downed players, no pushing, no shoving... Refs have a hard job, no doubt...but if you're not sure, you can't throw the flags...and they weren't sure, they were just showing precaution...you've got to let the kids play!!! You can turn that same comment around and it is just as valid. What you see on the sideline and what you see from an elevated position are completely different. There is a reason coaches climb stairs and sit in the pressbox and it is not because they want to tone their calves. There is no statewide conspiracy be referees, and there was no agenda Saturday. Dayton won and gets to play for a state title next week. Be happy about it. At the end of the day complaining about refs is a loser's game and Dayton are winners.
  4. I'll say this. I was at the game and I saw only 1 call a thought was "bad".
  5. Instant replay in HS sports is a terrible, horrible, fiscally irresponsible idea.
  6. He is clearly down and in posession of the ball in #5. That being said, calling it live at full speed is quite different than frame-by-frame stills a week later.
  7. Every year a couple teams around the state have fans that do that. It is a taunt. The reference being that your football season is over and basketball season starts as you are eliminated. Normally you hear of this in Bi-district or Area, usually by a team that is new to the playoff scene.
  8. Not to mention he never said "We did not play anyone good" or whatever ECBucFan twisted it into. What he said was a response to a question by a reporter about a win by a big margin, in the context of a discussion about gearing up for a playoff run. His actual response was "Well we haven't beat anyone good yet." The obvious reference being the losses to CC, Diboll, and Kirbyville. His inference was to slow down on the back patting. Sure, indirectly that says the team he just beat was not very good, but guess what..they were not. The main point here is that anyone with their feelings hurt over that comment are going a pretty good bit out of their way to get offended.
  9. It all depends on what list you are looking at.
  10. I live in the Austin area and have been seeing these kids all season. LT would likely be playing next week even if placed in the 5A bracket. No joke.
  11. I like Kirbyville in this game, but who knows. I'll say this. These two teams had the toughest path to the title game (as compared to the other two regions in 2A D1)
  12. Add Newton. With ~2 minutes left in the game, trailing 21-18, and faces 4th and goal from the 2 Newton elected to try for a TD instead of a game tying FG. The DF defense stopped Newton and went on to win. The outcome was different than the two above, but the call was equally monumental.
  13. Dang, that is classless. Almost as bad as a coach (twice) going on TV, smirking after a win, and saying "Well, we just didn't play anybody any good". Guess if you dish it out, you have to take it. Dude are you STILL singing that same song? We get it. In your reality Curtis Barbay is a classless meanie-butt and you filter any comments in such a way as to reinforce your reality. The rest of us live in a different reality. Give it a rest.
  14. Hehe people have a way of filtering info to match their world view. The good ol transitive property of football. I always love that one.
  15. I posted this on another site but thought I'd copy it over here. I decided to predict the class 2A playoffs using a Lincoln Penny. It is just an ordinary penny, it posesses no mystical powers and was not blessed by a shaman. I simply flipped it for each matchup and recorded the results. Can you beat my penny? The Penny's Picks: Muleshoe over Littlefield Clyde over Jim Ned Gunter over Pilot Point Troy over Winnsboro Arp over Jefferson Kirbyville over Anahuac Altair Rice over Navarro Hitchcock over George West Friona over Idalou Brady over Merkel Childress over Lubbock Roosevelt Bangs over Cisco Callisburg over Dekalb Lone Oak over Grandview Paul Pewitt over Pottsboro McGregor over Caddo Mills Daingerfield over West Rusk New Waverly over Hardin Hughes Springs over Franklin Newton over East Chambers Halletsville over Blanco Vanderbuilt Ind. over Three Rivers East Bernard over Karnes City Refugio over Dilley
  16. Buna has a basketball history rivaled by few.
  17. I'll say Anahuac. You never know though...Anahuac has absolutely nothing on the line. They have clinched the district and their playoff berth wont change regardless of the outcome. They may pull the starters.
  18. Head to Head is only a piece of the puzzle. Lay aside local teams where people have strong feelings. Take this example from NCAA: Oregon State (6-3) beat USC (8-1) early in the season. It is not really valid to say that Oregon State should be ranked ahead of USC because they beat them.
  19. CC is pretty big, and are a decent team, but they are not all that. They may be getting too much street cred for beating Newton in the opener. I will say they are more than capable of beating Kirbyville despite not having them same talent. They are well coached and have been here before. Overlooking them would be a huge mistake.
  20. Why would you'll smite him on this? Inexperience at being champions. There seem to be Kirbyville posters that will smite anything with Kirbyville mentioned that does not say they are the greatest team ever. I got multiple smites for answering a direct question about when the last time Kirbyville beat Newton. I find it all quite amusing.
