  1. It does imo. Most years Newton drop 1 or 2 games in non district. Yeah Kirbyville looks decent..but they still havent beaten Newton. There have been plenty of years that there was supposed to be someone that would knock Newton off (EC, SFA, CC, etc..) they all failed. Maybe this year is different, maybe not. Well know at the end of the season. There will be no need to try to apply the tranisitive property to football. This is not the NCAA, you dont get crowned based on popular opinion. You still have to win in Texas HS Football.
  2. Blaming refs is a losers game. Sometimes a call is key. In those cases there are ALWAYS dozens of other plays that could have been the difference too. Blaming refs is a losers game.
  3. So exactly wat criteria do you use if size does not matter?
  4. Newton is notorious for early season sloppiness. I think it will be a good game. I'll be surprised if it is not close.
  5. Realignment has new districts. District 23 plays 24 in the first round but this version of district 24 does not play football so the 23AA teams get a bye.
  6. I guarantee all 3 teams from 23AA advance to the second round of the playoffs.
  7. LOL. Backhanded compliments sure sound like sour grapes. Good luck to EC the rest of the way. I won't hold this guy against you.
  8. Buna and EC were co-champs. Hardin and Kountze tied for third, Hardin had the tie-breaker and got the third playoff berth.
  9. I'd go easy on that particular claim. Hardin likely would have gotten bounced in bi-district and EC would have advanced if the seeding went differently.
  10. I LOVE this thread! The EC fixation on Newton and living vicariously through CC is awesome. Why is it people think CC is some sort of patsy team? That is a team that finished within a touchdown of Newton last year and advanced 3 rounds in the playoffs (2 the year before) and are only a few years removed from a state title. That is a far cry from the play-10-games-and-then-bow-out-to-a-runner-up-in-bi-district local teams thany fancy themselves a "power". As far as Barbay's comment in the article, well you are reading quite a bit that is just not stated. He said CC did not want really want to play Newton. That in no way infers that he thought they were "afraid" to play Newton or that he thought they would "strap one on CC". In fact if you read carefully he talks about how he has to prepare for them, not the other way around. If he didnt think CC could beat them, he would not have scheduled them. Contenders play teams that can beat them and will make them better. Pretenders play cupcakes that make for pretty records. You'll notice there are no Newton fans on here making excuses. CC is a good team and will be a state contender, as will Newton. Friday night CC came to Newton and outplayed the Eagles. Hats off to them, they earned a tough win against a great program. The good news is EC fans don't have to live through Newton's opponents this week. They get a crack at the Eagles directly.
  11. What is it about the internet that makes people forget how to behave in a civil manner?
  12. As far as predictions go I give the nod to Kountze. Don't count Woodville out though..I've never seen those kids back down.
  13. The key is the word SOME. I am not willing to paint all Wildcat fans with the same brush. Yes it is true that every school has crass supporters that post here. It is just that, in my opinion, Kirbyville has a few that are more abrasive than the most and are also particularly prolific. Yes I know some are just misunderstood. People who did not know better might think Barbay is disrespectful when truthfully his is plainly honest and simply declines to laud insincere praise as many do.
  14. Alvarez does have that program heading in the right direction. Now if he could only teach a little class to some of those fans on those internet chat boards.
  15. Anyone that has played for Barbay can tell you he is just as brutally honest with the Newton players about the Eagles. I remember being told that we were "Nowhere near as good" as an opponent. Of course he went on to tell us what we were going to do to beat them anyway.
  16. Lets assume for the sake discussion Kirbyville will beat WOS. Now let's assume that Coach Hooks loses some sleep. Wanna know the most likely reason? He is thinking about Jasper.
  17. It is because they had 8 first place votes. the number eight with the closed parentheses makes that smiley. ( 8 )
  18. Is that true? Is there is a rule regulating play between classes? (Not that a 5A team would ever play a 2A team even if there were not a rule)
