Kountze loses to Deweyville 29-26 and picks up 6 points!
  2. Do you folks that saw the Kirbyville/Shelbyville game think they will compete for the third playoff spot?
  3. By the same token, you take two natural athletes in the 7th grade. One has played years of youth league football and one has never played anything but sandlot ball. Which is more likely to be the better player? The bottom line is that like any other sport or game of skill players benefit from coaching, practice, and experience, all thing being equal. Youth league football absolutely has an impact but in most cases it is probably overstated.
  4. Surprises: Vidor, Buna Disappointments: Kountze, Jasper Newton is on the bubble
  5. I agree. The Region 3 D1 championship is likely decided in the first round unless there is a scenarion that sends Daingerfield to D1.
  6. It is pretty big imo. I honestly believe there are games that are won and lost on tradition alone.
  7. I looked it up in Kirbyville. It said: See Marching Band.
  8. So I can't respond to the trash talk? What is the deal?
  9. Ha I'll take the bait since that is what you have been going for since the original post: Lets examine some of your comments: How exactly did realignment cause Kirbyville to go 0-17 vs Newton the last 20 years? Help a poor ignorant ex-Newton Eagle out and explain it to me. Oh ho ho ho! A smart one! He knows how to make backhanded comments! Well let's look at those second round exits in the last 20 years..Newton has been there 17 times advancing 10 times and losing 7 times. How about Kirbyville? 3-3. Yeah...forgive me but I'll take 10-7 in the second round in a 20 year period over 3-3. Call me crazy. As to Marlin, yep they have Newton's number no arguing that when the Eagles are 0-5 against those Bulldogs. Kirbyville is 0-1 against them. I guess being an inferior team that rarely gets to play them entitles you to be derisive. My apologies I did not know the rules. Go ahead and further correct my ignorance and explain to me what that has to do with Kirbyville. Do the Wildcats have some super secret plan to bus in Marlin for week 10?
  10. Congrats to WOS, WB, and Kirbyville on getting the recognition. MaxPreps is LOL though. Always is.
  11. The OP here sums it up nicely. A win by Kirbyville is something for old men to talk about for years. A win by Newton is..well nothing to talk about at all. A great friend of mine has this theory that it will be better in the long run if Kirbyville wins. His theory is that if Kirbyville can win one it will rekindle an actual rivalry. I dunno, maybe he is right. I'll have to agree with him that the game MUCH MUCH more important to Kirbyville though.
  12. That's interesting! Coach Barbay is definitely a Texas coaching legend! By the way, who do they have to beat in the first round for him to get his 300th win? It is a bit early yet, but my best guess for Newton's Bi-District opponent is Buffalo.
  13. Maybe so..we'll see. I know it will take a heckava lot more than optimism and homer fan 21-point spread predictions to get it done! Either way it makes for a good story. Barbay becomes the 8th coach in Texas history to reach that plateau at home.. OR ..Kirbyville plays spoiler and ends a multiple decade losing streak while making Barbay get #300 on road.
  14. Just to add a little more significance... Barring an upset along the way Curtis Barbay will enter week 10 with 299 career wins.
  15. K-ville by a gazillion. They dont have a legit threat left on the schedule until week 10.
  16. I doubt it changed their view much at all. CC has been a contender for too long to get caught up in that goofball football transitive property theory. Congrats to Kville on a nice win. Week 10 is looking huge. I just hope Kville can keep it up and Newton can get in synch so the matchup lives up to its billing.
  17. Interesting that they did not include 22-2A in the list of districts that will not be decided until week 10. I doubt there will be many people surprised at either Kirbyville or Newton winning. I think darn near everyone would be absolutely shocked if it doesnt come down to that week 10 showdown though.
  18. I will say this is the first time I have ever seen Newton accused of being unsportsmanlike. In fact the sportsmanship of the Newton Eagle program is something frequently commented on across the state in different message boards. I can't tell you how many playoff opponents (both defeated by the Eagles AND victorious over them) have commented on the lack of TD celebrations, the help up after tackles, and post game handshaking and respect offered by the Eagles of Newton. Sportsmanlike behavior is a DECADES old tradition in Newton. No one faults you for your misinterpretation of Barbay's demeanor. Those that know him well enough to really understand his ways also understand how it looks to those that don't. I guess I can also understand the need to believe that Newton is "those mean ol bullies" for motivational purposes or something. But these accusations that the Newton program is anything but a class act in terms of sportsmanship are nothing but slanderous. You might as well check that crap at the door now cause there are too many people around that know better. That dog just wont hunt.
  19. I don't know anything about HJ really. Can anyone tell me a little about them?
