  1. Donnie, Way to go man! I am proud of you! The only bad thing is that I will have to cheer for Texas Tech now... Keep working hard... the sky is the limit! -Coach Fogo
  2. Big win for HJ.....HF Must win out to stay alive.
  3. He said something about a liquid diet, so I know it is serious..... Some weights, rested legs, and shooting time.... I am sure he will be a huge spark come playoff time... This year sure seems alot like last year...... the losses were at the same time.... to the same people and a key injury around this time....... hopefully the same result!
  4. Neat article....... AGAIN, nice job Gabe! PS, what would it take to get you to move to the Hardin County Newspaper? haha
  5. You are an idiot! I don't see what is so funny about a kid breaking his jaw.
  6. I know this is a high school board, but the Lady Cards play at home this Thuirsday in a big conference game. People have griped in the past about Lamar not getting local talent to stay at home.  Coach Tidwell and Ancelot are doing a great job this year and it would be nice if the area coaches, players and fans went to support the Lady cards on Thursday. There aren't many nights when high school players and coaches can go watch a good college game...... this is one of those nights!
  7. Big win for OF..... I really feel bad for the three teams that have to play whoever makes the playoffs from this district in the playoffs.
  8. Bernsen - 27 Moore - 25 Fontenot - 10 Pretty slow 2nd quarter, but the Lady hawks had a 33 point 3rd quarter and cruised from there..... **On a side note, I think the coach at BC has done a great job.....  This was a much different team tonight....even though the score did not reflect it. !!!  Keep working hard!
  9. I think they were talking about the poll.... however, the answer is no..... we had nothing to do with this.... it is coaches from mainly the dallas / houston / san antonio area.
  10. Hey J-Dad..... I figured this would make you yell hallelujah! haha. see you Friday.
  11. final hj 68 jasper 19 sloppy game, hj called off the dogs early. probably could have won by 75.
  12. I was refering to the final poll..... Counting playing in high school and college, along with the past six years coaching, I have enough championship rings to cover up my whole right hand. I will never be satisfied with hanging a banner that says Regional Finalist, Bi-District Champions, etc. So from that standpoint, any thing less than that would be disappointing. Polls are other peoples opinions who have not seen each game and nothing more. If a player or coach needs a poll to make them fell good about them selves, something is wrong.
  13. Again, as I said in another post,..... the only ranking that matters is the one at the end of the season.
  14. when you have a 1 1/2 year old and a two month old...... it is easy to forget what time it is..... game tapes are great for getting small children to sleep!
  15. Kville -3-2 BC 1-4 WOS 0-5 Jasper either 1-4 or 0-5
  16. There is only ONE meaningful poll.... and that is the one that comes out AFTER the season is over. The only thing that polls like this do is give a team a sense of false security, or give bragging rights for a job that is not finished. I think we deserved to drop a few spots. When we correct the things we need to correct, and beat teams that we should beat, we will move back up.
  17. You guys may be misunderstanding what I am saying.... I say that a coach has more influence than officials and here is why. Alomst all of the coaches in this area stress offense. What time is spent on defense usually pertains running, hustling, getting loose balls,(all things that lead to the extreme contact we all hate) etc. NOT footwork, hand position, etc. As far as officials letting this type of play go, I cannot speak for that.... but I do say that if coaches stressed the proper fundamentals, we would not be having this discussion because the game would be different. *I DO THINK IT IS GETTING BETTER. MY FIRST YEAR AT KELLY WAS WAY WORSE THAN ANYTHING I HAVE SEEN THIS YEAR! On a side note, basketball has not always been a "pure" non contact game.... My grandfather played in the early days of the NBA with George Mikan. He would tell me stories of each team having "hatchet men" who whose job was to try and put the opponets best player into the 4th row (much like the goons in hockey)...Those stories are funny and interesting, but are for another post. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
  18. How was cleveland? I know they have played a pretty tough schedule.
  19. Good point, but I think most of the blame should fall on the coaches, not the officials. I have seen every 21-3A team play at least twice, and I will state that if officials call what they should, most teams will have fouled each team out before half time. I coached a team a while back at a school in beaumont, who did not have the greatest athletes. We had to resort to playing "New York Knicks" style defense, just to try and stay in games. So as a coach, if you are not blessed with raw talent, you still have to do what you can to try and win and stay competitive.... If that means fouling, holding the ball, etc.. In this scenario, I am guilty.... I am probably the hardest coach on officials, but realize that there is a balance between calling fouls that affect the play and letting go the ones that don't ..... Most officials will miss a call, and then try and even up the missed call by letting another one go. It is human nature and happens at ALL levels of basketball. Most SETX officials are great guys and gals who care about the sport and the product they put out. (I have been to several of their meetings) , I do think that a coach has far greater impact on the physical nature of the game than an official does. -Mike
  20. I was not trippin,.... It was called HUMOR.... can you imagine Coach Boutee driving around in a golf cart..... Priceless!
  21. The scary thing is that this team has so much room for improvement. They have scored 60, 100, 89, 83 in their first 4 district ball games. These scores make it hard to continue to do the things they are used to doing.... pressing, running etc. Each of their wins could actually have been by alot more.
  22. I heard that three were transferring to High Island.... And one was going to Deweyville.... Any truth to this rumor? While we are spreading rumors, I also heard that Coach Boutee was going to resign to become the Assistant Golf Coach at Buna. Merry Christmas Everyone!
