I think my argument would hold up... Kelly 480 enrollment vs any 1A or 2 A school in this area.... St. Thomas / Strake Jesuit in houston (Both around 900) vs any 3A or 4A in Houston.... I do think the percentages outnumber public... based on 2 things.... 1) If a parent is paying, there is a little more "vested" interest in seeing their kid succeded. 2) Homelife.... most of these families can afford tutors, aides, software and resources that most cannot. I am not saying that it is fair, but based on my time in both setting, thats how I see it....

Nos, You are correct on most points.... here is what I see.... I am not speaking for all students, but on average) 1.For the most part, Private school parents push their kids harder academically than public school kids. (If I was paying $6,000+ per year, I would ask to see my kids homework everynight... no matter what grade they were in) 2. I taught at both and can tell you first hand that the difference is big.... homelife has alot to do with it... economics has alot to do with it... parents being INVOLVED in their childs education has the most to do with it...

Gabe, I love the work you do for our area athletes, but this article was totally uncalled for. 1. Who would you take off the current list to add a BC player? 2. To get MVP, your coach must first nominate you for the award..... Check who BC nominated 3. To say the BC/HJ game meant nothing to the cardinals is a slight to a BC team that tries their best to win everygame they play in! Coach Bryant has too much pride for that. 4. Superlatives are not given based on team records... (Why the heck do so many pro players win MVP who are not on first place teams) They are given based on individual performance.

Please do not slight one player to prop up another.... Everyone on that list deserves to be where they are period!!! The coaches came up with that list... voting for your own player is irrelevant. The coaches in 21-3A are all class acts, and I have a hard time believing all the "politics" garbage. BC was 13-1 because they had the best"team" during district play. This should not play into consideration at all when dealing with individual awards... I know some will disagree with that... but it is my opinion... These awards are not to celebrate team accomplishments... that is what the playoffs are for...

Looks like HJ will get Coldspring and Jasper will get the loser of the Kingwood Park/Tarkington game on Saturday (THey will have a playoff for first.) Kingwood Park beat Splendora tonight 1-0. If Coldspring beats Cleveland on Friday, They will take the third spot in 22-3A.

The comments about how a father raises his son are out of line! I spent many nights at their house, and personally witnessed Johnny Ray being a great father! Come on guys.... find something else to gripe about instead of this young fella! The economy is bad, oil prices are high, etc.... There are plenty of relevant things to talk about.... I do agree with the post about Memphis....I am sure Lamar is sniffing around PA now....

If all of this was said about a coach, the thread would be removed because it would be deemed bashing... Is the whole situation sad.... yes it is, but leave the dang kid alone!

They will honor him at next years' Christmas Festival in Old Town Sour Lake. Rumor has it that he will either be the grand marshal or ride in the last float with Santa!!!

Sorry guys..... I have news from austin that the UIL and the Regional Committee presented the award this morning for "First Base Coach of the Year". The award went to Humplik who edged out D. Vansa from Silsbee. Committee members felt that Humplik;s "back" call and numerous catch phrases like "ata boy" and "yesss sirrr!" put him over the top. The KFDM news footage was enough to sway the remaining committe members. There is a picture from the awards ceremony....

what do you mean wait... i am on my way to becoming a perfectly sculpted oval!!!! haha

Poppa & Bleed..... here is my suggestion for you two: 2 competitions - 1 @ hj and 1 @ OF 1. Lay up competition... first to make 10. (EDGE:LITTLE) 2 Hot dog eating competition 5 minute time limit (EDGE:POPPA) * you two can ref any of my jv games anytime you want.... As a coach, I would even pay admission to see that! This would get girls hoops some media attention... I promise! hahahaha!

If Hj and Jasper tie for the 2nd spot... it will be a coin flip to decide seeding...Get ready 22-3A....

I was talking about the race for the 2nd and third spots in district 21-3A..... not playoffs yet... HJ, Jasper and Silsbee have huge games ahead... with jasper and hj holding a one game lead. Last year, hj had to win at Jasper, at Silsbee, at Orangefield and at h-f in the second round just to force a playoff with Silsbee for the third spot.... I can see this scenario happening again with two of these three teams.

Lundy also had an amazing catch at SS, robbing Silsbee of at least a double...

Humplik is the clear winner! Video footage proves it. This video was in 1983, Humplik's rookie year as a first base coach. During this year an event happened that caused him to be the tough son of a gun he is today! He can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'!!!

I am glad HJ is done with the horns! They seem to be scoring runs at will the past few games!!! Good Job Coach Landry!
