  1. Now that they have a HC, who else is going to come over to Orangefield? Will Huckaby be calling the offense or defense? I know he runs the Bruce Bush Slot-T, so he will need someone that fits there, but what about defense? Any idea who he has lined up to fill all those spots he has vacant? Seems tough to do for a guy who has been in a coat and tie in the administrative offices.
  2. It IS up to the coaches to make sure the kids aren't overexposed, and most take this responsibility very seriously. Standard practice these days is one very early practice, before it gets hot, and one late in the day once it cools off a bit. Things have changed for sure since I can remember going through 3-a-days, with the middle session being a special teams practice. If the governing bodies are serious about this (not that starting a week later makes sense or any difference) they are going to have to allow the lower classifications to utilize spring ball. As much as anything else, the August heat is why many 4 and 5A coaches choose spring ball over a week of work in August. Not every district can afford a "bubble" to practice in, and even if they could, we saw what happened in Dallas. Some coach and his school district will get sued over that too.
  3. Assistant Prinicpal only I thought he was AP only, with no football, but wasnt sure.
  4. from the grapevine, His wife got SP job at Hull, He discussed it with his son, and they decided to follow. She has followed him everwhere and he felt he owed to do the same for her. talk about a good guy. takes a lot of guts to give up something you love for your wife. Ya'll orangefield guys better hope he gets the job. I know Huckaby's wife is the Supe at H-D, but how does that work? Split the commute? She doesn't keep her job? You know as cheap as OF is, they aren't creating a job for her to come too. Does it count as giving something up if you turn right back around and go back on your decision. I wish him the best, and I am sure OF has him picked as their man, but the whole deal seems a bit odd.
  5. Why did Huckaby leave coaching to begin with? Also, having been out of the business for a stretch, is he going to be able to bring in the coaches to fill all the spots for assistants in such a short window of time?
  6. who was the OC that called a pass play in that situation in a playoff game?
  7. I don't believe the OC is new, but competition can't be a bad thing.
  8. i like this one but hope you have a punter with a good hang time and can punt it deep and hope you have speedy enough coverage to get on the reciever quick Kick it out of bounds if you have to, or a rolling rugby style directional kick, if you can. Better max protect cause they are coming at you, probably with one man deep. Up 4 with 15-20 seconds. If I can't keep them out of the endzone, we don't deserve to win. As for taking a delay of game, I am in the same position 5 yards deeper---No good.
  9. I am running my best back behind my best lineman, straight ahead. Nothing that will lose yardage. Get the 1st, game over. If you are stopped short, you will be snapping 4th down with about 25-30 seconds left.
  10. I think he means, "Who will be their (Ozen) top players next year? (Offensive and Defensive Players) I may be wrong....
  11. Without a full complement of coaches, full-blown practices would be challenging--juggling kids with limited position coaches who may not yet be comfortable coaching in Crouch's system. Don't take for granted that the assistant coaches that are there are completely comfortable with the system yet. Coach Crouch's offseason program with weights, running, agilities, etc can clearly establish his style and expectations and help him get an idea of where his program sits. Couple that with 7-on-7 and scheme implementation, the kids will be learning and getting better even without pads. Spring ball might not be as productive as it might be at other programs not experiencing such turnover. Lastly, the longer the pads stay in storage, the more the suspense and excitement build with the kids and community. I can see plenty of reasons to hold off til August. But hey, what do I know. I'm just riffing.
  12. Spring ball all depends on the situation. In an established program, I think it is better to practice when it is 80-90 degrees vs 100 in August. It can help sort out depth charts going into the summer and give the coaches an idea of what exactly they are dealing with. It also cuts down on preseason practices and lessens the potential for injury. One major drawback is that you have kids who may be contributing next season who are in track and especially baseball that you may not be able to see and evaluate. This is likely what LCM is looking at. They can still work on learning and practicing offensive and defensive schemes with the kids they have without pads now. Learning doesn't need pads. Then, when everyone is around come August, they have an extra week to fit kids in position, bone up on playbooks, practice techniques and get ready for the upcoming season. For a new coach without all his athletes and still putting together a coaching staff, I think it isn't a bad move. Just my thoughts...
  13. I hear they are looking for an O-Line coach as well. Who is in line for taking these jobs and where are these former coaches going?
