  1. Two schools in Tyler County look to be playoff caliber teams and this is how I score them;; Spurger - A-/B+  This team has two intangibles that cannot be measured; character and heart. They have fought through devastating injuries and never once complained.  The bench and lack of inconsistency could be the weak links of this team.  Having said that this team has the potential to go all the way "if" it can get consistent intimidatiing play in the middle. Coach Isaacs certainly gets everything and then some from his starting five. Woodville - B+ This team needs to learn how to put teams away.  Too often they get a lead and give it back.  With the exception of a few this team cannot shoot free throws very well and we know in tight playoff games that will be key.  This team is quick and athletic.  They can play tough defense and are explosive on offensive.  How deep they go in the playoffs will depend on how hungry they are to play a full 32 minutes?
  2. How can we nominate someone?  I think Daniel Blankenship from SPurger should be invited.  Thanks
  3. Why isn't Colmesneil's Matt Greenwood a part of this selection?
  4. The difference maker in this game could be new Warren QB Matt Lowe who transferred in from Kountze. I''ll give them the benefit of the doubt since the last two years Warren has played WH tough winning both matches by less than a touchdown. Warren wins.
  5. I think you should not take Colmesneil too lightly. They have a lethal running game with the addition of a quick, elusive runner named Berry to compliment their 1,000 yard rusher Jared Eaves. Look for Eaves right, Eaves left, Eaves up the middle and boom here comes Berry. Their passing game will be helped with the addition of a talented sophomore TECullen Baker.
  6. Are ther any adult indoor soccer leagues in the Lumberton area? Also looking for over 30 or coed outdoor leagues in Lumberton/Beaumont.
  7. Rebel Yeller has it right. Sabine Pass doesnt have the hitting or the pitching to keep up.
  8. On a day when it appeared that rain would wash out another ballgame in southeast Texas, the sun suddenly appeared and the baseball gods smiled once more on District 24-1A baseball. Blayne Shook took the mound for the Pirates in his second home start of the season. After hitting the leadoff batter and an error on Pirates third baseman Tanner Hollier, the Bobcats threatened to score early with runners on first and third and just one down but Hollier redeemed himself on the very next play turning a routine popup into an inning ending double play. The Pirates wasted no time scoring in their half of the first inning. Senior John Gossett led off with a double down the left field line and one batter later scored on a sharp single to centerfield by first baseman George Whittaker. It was a lead the Pirates would never give up. The Pirates tacked on another tally in the second inning when Senior Alex Stark drove a Bobcat offering into the right centerfield gap for a triple and then scored on a throwing error. The Pirates knocked out the Bobcat starter in the 3rd sending 11 batters to the dish and plating seven of them building an 9 - 0 lead. In the top of the 4th, though, the Pirates got both sloppy and generous handing the Bobcats 5 runs on only 3 hits while committing 2 errors, a poor fielding decision with 2 outs and a wild pitch. Spurger reclaimed 2 of those runs in the their half of the 4th inning with timely hitting and the aggressive base running of starting catcher Jonathon Hutto who scored from second on a routine ground out to finish the Pirate scoring and then it was all Blayne Shook. Shook and his slow looping curveball retired 9 of the last 10 batters he faced. His complete game 9 strikeouts, 0 walk performance lifted the Spurger Pirates district record to 4 – 3 while Hull Daisetta fell to 3-4 in district play.
