2.
I guess you have to have something to hold on to.  You might want to erase the last 15 years, at least as far Nederland goes. :)
I'm fine with y'all having those fifteen years. If we erase those, we erase some of our own best seasons (1999, 2003, 2007, 2009 and 2010 come to mind). Besides, it'll take at least 15 more for Nederland to catch up to us in MCM, and Neumann has to retire some time. ;D

In 2000, the year after our last state championship run, an impressive Nederland team suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 loss in the state semi-final to a Bay City team that won the championship that year with ease. That qualifies as a big game. But, it wasn't in front of a record-setting crowd. ;D
You know why Ned fans keep bringing this up?  Because they know it will get a rise out of you and the PNG people.    Why?  Because when the scoreboard doesn't end up going your way you can at least say " we have an attendance record".  The other question is what will happen when the record falls? ( and it will).  What will you cling to then?  BTW, Ned was in the semi-finals in 2001,  PNG was watching them in the playoffs for the next 3 years after 99.
Ok, so it was 2001. Sorry, I never saw much reason to pay attention to Nederland's history - not much there beyond the last fifteen years or so. ;D Oh wait, I forgot about Nederland's only state championship appearance back in the '60s. ;D Still, the point stands. I'm surprised you would take issue with that statement. I was trying to give Nederland its credit where it was due. And when the record falls - and yes, I know it will - we'll just go about touting the new record we set that broke it. ;D
 4.
This game could be close or a blowout. Stats on paper for MCM has one thing in common with camping toilet paper. Neither are worth a d**n.
Stats may not matter much, but injuries do. Rumors are floating around right now about three defensive starters being out for the game, and one has been confirmed (Riley, Nose Guard, out for surgery).

 6.
Oh, and here is a more up to date attendance record list, since the PNG site only lists up to 2006: Attendance Game Site Year 49,953 Plano vs. Port Neches-Groves, Texas Stadium 1977* 46,339 Southlake Carroll vs. Euless Trinity, Texas Stadium 2006 45,790 Highland Park vs. Waco, Cotton Bowl 1945* 45,000 Houston Washington vs. Galveston, Rice Stadium 1968 45,000 Dallas Adams vs. Richardson, Cotton Bowl 1967 43,369 Aledo vs. Manvel, Cowboys Stadium 2011* 43,321 Pearland vs. Euless Trinity, Cowboys Stadium 2010* 42,896 Southlake Carroll vs. Fort Bend Hightower, Cowboys Stadium 2011* 41,368 Katy vs. Pearland, Rice Stadium 2010 39,102 Garland vs. Katy, Astrodome 1999* 39,102 Stephenville vs. Port Neches-Groves, Astrodome 1999* 38,570 Port Neches-Groves vs. Houston Kashmere, Astrodome 1977 38,374 Plano vs. Highland Park, Texas Stadium 1980 38,000 Odessa vs. San Antonio Jefferson, Memorial Stadium (Austin) 1946 37,747 Cibolo Steele vs. Denton Guyer, Cowboys Stadium 2010* 36,000 Fort Bend Willowridge vs. Houston Yates, Rice Stadium 1988 *state championship game source: ]
How is that relevant? It doesn't change anything. 3 of the top 15 records (counting one tie) in high school football belong to games in which PN-G played, including the Astrodome's HS record and the Texas state record, which is widely considered to be the national record. Thanks for citing my sources, I guess....
I have gone to maybe 2 games, but I didn't wear my Ned colors.  There are probably people from other schools that can say the same.
Ok, but you still weren't in purple, and they probably weren't either. And the fans of other schools that I know who have attended PN-G games were all wearing their school colors. Those include Nederland, Vidor, Ozen and Central fans, just to name a few. I can also think of two who opted for college shirts.
 7.

Tell you what, next time you get to the playoffs in the 3rd or 4th round, take a poll of everybody in the stadium and let me know if they are actually from PNG or from another town and just wanted to take in a playoff game. :)
??? Really? That's your response? I have to admit, I kind of expected better. If I can't prove a point without polling, neither can you. You just struck out your own point. And in any case, you still haven't responded to the fact that, if your argument was true (and I really don't think it is; you'll find some fans from other schools, but a few thousand at most), you're just crediting PN-G for being able to attract fans from across district lines.
And you made mine.  Your implication that the majority of the fans are wearing purple implied that they are PNG fans, not fans from other teams.  Not to mention the fans from the opposing team.  Also, if its a state championship game, there are no other games to attend, so people will come to see the last game.  Like you said without a poll, you can't prove that they are PNG fans.  So why keep defending it ?
... and you can't prove that they're not without a poll. At least I have empirical evidence; you have no evidence of any kind. Answer me this: have you ever attended a PN-G game wearing purple? Has any Nederland fan? I think most would say the color purple would burn their skin and show up in black and gold, if they show up at all. I know the only Nederland fans I know that have ever come to our playoff games weren't wearing purple. And likewise, I've attended Nederland, WO-S and Vidor games wearing purple.
 8.
Oh, and also,  I guess Stephenville and Plano don't have any fans that go to games either???
Now with Plano, you might have an argument. There's varying information out there about this. I've seen fans say that PN-G had 35,000+ of those fans and there have been news articles scanned in on other sites that report similar numbers, which means Plano would have brought around 15,000. With Stephenville however, you wouldn't. I remember that crowd and their stupid little propane tanks with ball bearings in them. They had at most 5,000 of the 39,102 fans in attendance. PN-G's crowd dwarfed them.

 10.
I simply stated that PNG has mostly great fans and that even a loyal following such as PNG has fair weather fans in the group.  My bad on starting the record attendance discussion, it was meant in jest, but there are a lot of folks who aren't able to Jest.
There's no offense taken here, and none intended towards you (or anyone else, for that matter). I agree with your statement; PN-G, just like every other fan base, is going to find out who's a fairweather fan and who's not during bad years. But bigdog is saying PN-G fans keep bringing this up like it's the only thing we have to tout. My only point in relation to you was that it wasn't a PN-G fan who brought it up.
 11.
LOL.  You might need to get a needle for your head  and some of your PNG friends.  I guess the PNG people have to cling to something, since they will be sitting home this year.  Its funny how they have to keep bringing up a attendance record that happened over 30 years ago, and act like it was all because of PNG and not because other people in the area want to watch high school playoff games.  I see people from other schools all the time at Nederland playoff games , and I am sure that Ned fans attend other games as well.
Fact-checking seems to be pretty popular these days, so let's do a little here. First of all, the subject of this thread is PN-G fan attendance. This thread was not started by a PN-G fan. It was started by a Nederland fan. See quote below:
We all know the theory of PNG's fans being the most loyal and that they never leave early has been debunked after we saw the mass exodus in MCM last year when Nederland stuffed the 4th and 1 attempt. When will it happen this year?  ;)
Second, PN-G's attendance records - of which there are many - were not brought up by a PN-G fan. In fact, the subject of attendance records in particular was brought up in the second post of this thread by a different Nederland fan. See quote below:
This didn't get debunked just last year.  pNG has a lot of people in the stands... a good portion are loyal, but they are as fair weather or more than everyone else.  In this thread they will point to the state attendance record, and try to shut you up.
Third, no PN-G fan here ever said that these records were set by PN-G fans alone. However, you, in raising this point, need to be aware that you're only hurting your own case; if these records totaling well over 30,000 fans indicate a strong Southeast Texas following in addition to the strong following PN-G has on its own, that says a heck of a lot about PN-G's ability to bring not only tens of thousands of its own fans, but also tens of thousands of other schools' fans - more, even, then every other Southeast Texas school besides Nederland bring to their own games. Fourth, PN-G's last major attendance record was not set 30+ years ago. It was set just 13 years ago, during the memorable 1999 season. And fifth, if what you say is true and some significant portion of PN-G's substantial fan following during deep playoff years is comprised of Southeast Texas fans from other schools, why is it that in every case, the PN-G crowd is overwhelmingly purple? Generally speaking, when fans of various schools attend a game and sit with the fan base of a school different than their own, they do not wear that school's colors, but rather their own school's colors. Given this observation, the only way your argument could be true in any significant fashion is if the entire Dayton fanbase has a thing for attending PN-G playoff games, and even then the PN-G crowd would be overwhelmingly comprised of PN-G fans and alumni. So, you were saying? ;)
 12.
Yeah, and all of the were from PNG, LOL.
Never said that. But be aware, that's a double-edged sword. It says a lot when PN-G not only attracts upwards of 20,000 of its own fans for deep playoff games, but also typically more fans from other SETX schools than those schools have at their own games. ;)
that was over 30 yrs ago... You all had most of Southeast Texas going to those games supporting the Indians
Lets just be honest...We will out number you...any place, any time...we have two cities coming together to support 1 team. The only time you will out number us is at your Stadium. We dont need to bring up the state attendance record.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight... it is the size of the fight in the dog... So one city is enough
The size of the fight in the dog doesn't set records. Numbers do. ;D

The 39,000 fans that set the Astrodome's HS record tagged along in 1999, 34,000 of which sat on PN-G's side of the dome. The national record (along with the previous Astrodome record) was the one that was set in 1977 and still stands today.
 15. The freshman team is very good. I expect both games to be competitive, but I'm confident the freshman team will pull out the win (knock on wood). On JV, I think it could go either way.
 16. What do I like about Nederland? Hamburger Depot. Other than that, I could take it or leave it.
 17.
Did you mean BF? If so,  I would think his overall record is pretty darned good.  Don't know exact numbers tho.
At this point in the season, 28-14.
 18. I would normally pick Livingston, but my gut is telling me to avoid that game for some reason this week, so give me Dayton.
Do you happen to remeber some of those coaches names i am just curious how have there seasons have gone since the hire of faircloth
I remember Danaher and Vance because they caught the most attention, and also Mike Long. I think there was a Barbay on the list as well. There were a couple coaches with some college experience, but I don't remember who or where they were from. And of course, Coach Faircloth.

 21.
I have a strategy question about Faircloth.  He has always had the philosophy that no one will play both ways.  This may work at a big school with tons of players, but shouldn't you try to get your best athletes on the field?  I know Nederland has at least 4 guys that play both ways and some others that rotate in.  Vidor does the same.  I was told that PN-G currently only has 15 guys that play defense.  That is no where near enough bodies and depth IMO and is a big reason they give up so many points. Any thoughts on this?  Is Faircloth just being hardheaded and not adapting?  I personally would try to have my best athletes on the field at all times, but what do I know.
This was explained a few years ago and I don't remember exactly what was said, but I think it was because of two reasons. The first was the potential for injury. If one of the players who plays both ways gets hurt, you've lost two starters instead of one. The other is stamina. I don't think Coach Faircloth likes wearing down starters that much. Now I tend to agree that we might need to play some kids both ways. We're not a 5A program with talent in every crevice and this year has been particularly rough. But Faircloth has been very successful three of his four years here so far, so if he thinks what he's doing is working for him, I'm not going to argue it.

I travel the state of Texas every month and outside of sets, nobody knows who PNG is. Most people in Houston don't even know. Coaches put in for jobs to scare their schools to give them more money. ie. Dahner and Liberty Hill coach when PNG job was open, and Neuman a couple years ago with applying at LaMarque.
Then you must be meeting different people than I am, because I've met people who do in New York, Washington, Florida, here in Tuscaloosa, and in several places across Texas, including Lubbock, Austin and San Antonio. And yes, many people in Houston, particularly people 40 and up who remember PN-G's numerous trips to the Astrodome.
You live in Alabama. I drive 3000 miles a month around Texas and almost every town you can think of. I promise you, your exaggerating. Come on man, PNG has some neat traditions, but it's just another high school. Once you get past Baytown, nobody cares who PNG is. Just saying. 70's are over. You weren't even born. Lol
Ok, you drive 3000 miles a month. Cool. I'm just telling you, I have met people in all of those places that have either pulled me aside because I was wearing something purple or asked me where I was from and knew exactly what I was talking about when I told them. Many also knew about TJ and WO-S and a few even knew about Nederland.
I said the miles to make point. It's really a silly argument. Remember I just moved from Port Neches, so I know all about what is talked about in the PN and Groves communities.Good luck to y'all.
Good luck in Barbies Hill. You picking arguments with kids about who may or may not have heard of PNG, coupled with throwing how many miles you drive across Texas should make you fit in perfectly in Barbers Hill. "TradinUp" ? Um.... Yeah, I'm holding my hand over my mouth trying not to giggle at that.
For the last time, the miles were said to make the point. Really don't to explain to you the reason, but I'm trying to keep it elementary for you. The name came from taking a poll when we moved what the name should be. It's all in good fun. I wasn't dissing PNG, but I can promise you I lived for a long time and could. Let's just keep it simple. If your a kid and get on here and make a blanket statement, then be ready to back it up. You must be Bamakids dad. Let it go. ;D ;D
That, sir, is an insult, because it implies that California is in my heritage. That's even worse than being form Barbers Hill. ;D No offense, Cal2Tex.
What level of recognition we get is arbitrary, hard to judge and even harder to argue about. Unless we're going to start scientific polling across the country, there's no way to determine that. The fact that a high school gets any is what's worth mentioning.
