  1. Like I said was not 100%, but you are correct, low 80s majority of the time, but heard he topped 85 this summer, was told that yesterday afternoon. Bonnin is living at 88-90 , topped 92 last week, hit it 3 times, problem is he has never really pitched, always played the field and nobody knew he could throw that hard until recently. Once he learns how to pitch, and only being a JR, could be very effective in the future for BH. So you will see 2 totally ends of the spectrum when playing BH with Bonnin and Taylor. Was impressed by some of the arms in the scrimmage as well, so think BH will be fine. Just need to get Taylor out of Basketball and back on the mound.
  2. Committed to Nebraska for baseball, but first love is football, I heard he would give up Nebraska for football somewhere , plays QB for LP, 3 yr starter. Great athlete, plays 2nd, but would be so much better in outfield. Nephew of Gene Upshaw, old Oakland Raider Hall of Famer
  3. Not 100% sure, would say sits on 85, tops around 87 is a lefty, He hits OK for high school, but doubt he will in college, he plays outfield when not pitching
  4. Scrimmages start Monday, How did your team look? Any surprises?
  5. Barbers Hill has SR Lefty Brian Taylor (Nicholls State) that is still in Basketball, JR Bryce Bonin hitting 90-92 MPH just not a lot of experience on the mound normally a position player SS, They have a hand full of underclassman that will buy innings and hopefully find a couple of potential starters. If they can find 3 more arms to get innings, (which they have) they will be fine in pitching. They will have a crafty lefty, and a 90 plus throwing RHP, with some decent arms behind them, they will be fine,
  6. Did hear there was a freshman pitcher that was doing pretty good at BH, may see some innings through the tournaments, if he can hold his own he will say on varsity, When it comes to freshman on varsity and I'm a pitcher, I would rather be on JV and get innings in,and not just sit. If I'm a fr position player, it is a double edge, if you stay on varsity you may not play a whole lot, but practice with the varsity, and if you have ever seen the way Denny runs a practice, that freshman will get a lot of coaching and improvement, or be on JV and play every game but not get the reps in practice like the varsity gets or the coaching. You are right, I have not seen too many freshmen come in and be a impact player on a bigger program when 5A or above, there has been 2 at BH I know of the last 6 years, one in 2011 and another in 2014.
  7. There is some good upper class man at BH so will be hard for a freshman to crack the line up, but Coach Denny will usually take 1 or 2 freshman on varsity if they can contribute.. BH will be pretty good for the next few years
  8. BH has 6 starters returning from a team that won 11 of last 13 regular season games, took PNG to game 3 in a shoot out, return #1 pitcher and middle infield , Has a couple of holes to fill, but will be in the thick of it. Kitchens, Bonnin, Taylor, McCall, Fry, Gillings all returning, and a move in and some pretty good arms in the Soph class, Denny always has them in the mix, , may not be top 5 team in area but will be in the hunt as always. Though Pre Season ranking mean squat, they could be ranked 100 or 1, got to prove it and last team standing. BH is much bigger and stronger than last year when they were a young team, think they will surprise a few folks some of the returning players are going to surprise some as well, they do not look like the same kids from last year,, late bloomers that may have bloomed at the right time,, Should have a good year,
  9. I do remember seeing the list last time, Did not know the Dickinson coach was AD, so pay has to be a lot more, I heard the community really surrounded him when he was sick, and has a lot of talent there, and if he is AD, it may be hard to leave Dickinson. Though BH has his old Defensive Coordinator as of this past year, ground work was set, but his illness and personal ties to Dickinson may have changed everything.hopefully will know soon, Be nice to see the list
  10. Not sure but don't think he is AD in Dickinson, I'm sure with that the money is much better, and the more money you make the more your retirement will be, so if 48 and wants to get to 55 or 80 combo, yes there is a huge benefit. I don't think any realistic person in BH expects anyone to come in and make them a powerhouse, or make any D1 players out of the talent there, but they do have some good HIGH SCHOOL players and can be a lot more competitive than the last few years. 7-3 seasons would be considered a success there, and that is realistic, Of course there are some that wont live with that, but oh well,
  11. Should not be long before the announcement, have a feeling the leading candidates team lost this wknd. If I'm right, should not be but a week or two, unless they are waiting until the semester is over. Though Who knows who we will get, just wishful thinking.
  12. I don't think there were many kids that went to baseball over football, at least not any that would had made a huge impact in football, No big lineman or speedy RBs in baseball, two totally different skill sets, Disagree there are a couple of true D1 players on baseball team, team has been very young the last couple of years,, some of those kids are now coming into their own, that forum has about 2 more months to go. Bruce Taylor is a great guy,(agree with you) but kids do love playing for him, but know he would not be in the running nor would i think he would even want to be(.I hope he stays to hit 50 years,) Young coaches can see how to treat kids and be the role model he is (great example to players and coaches). I do think we need energetic coach no matter what age,and one that can connect to the kids. Again I think most everyone knows we don't have any D1 kids in football, but we have some high school football players and they can compete, maybe not for a district title every year or deep play-off runs, but can be competitive and buy into what the coach is selling and start on the foundation that BH has, as of now BH just needs a boost for it's football program, got to start somewhere. Will be a long process, but with the right guy, they have a good foundation to start to build on. Who knows what they may be like in 5 years with the right guy.
