How much was WO-S offering their teachers to announce their retirement?
10% of their annual salary. PLUS..... The real kicker is they were offering $100 a day for sick-days not used.  Coach Hooks probably has 200-300 of those lying around!   That offer expired today.
HOLY COW!!!! I wish my district would come close to offering ANY of that for me to leave....( We are being offered nothing and get nothing for our sick days....At this point I have no incentive not to miss the majority of the remaining school days.)
How about this for incentive - if you're not sick, the right thing to do is report to work.

Congrats to Coach Hooks.  You have paid your dues and have served WOS and the entire area proud.  I sincerely hope you enjoy your retirement and spending time with your family.  You've earned it!  Many a young man have grown into fine citizens under your watch and we thank you for your guidance.  You were more than just a football coach.  You were/are  a life leader.  After losing Coach Barbay this past year and now with you retiring, this area will definitely feel the loss of two true giants this next football season. It just won't be the same.

Why? They are technically part of my pay. You going to give benefits back to your employer? According to the state, they are personal days.

Toby Foreman.. Give the hometown boy a shot!! Look what he has done with the Track Program..
I'm sure there are a few guys on staff that they dont need to go beggin outsiders.
Congrats to Coach Hooks on a legendary career!
I agree, but if it came down to accepting apps I dont think there would need to be any "beggin."

Fridays just wont be the same... :'(

All of us can only dream of having a career in our fields that measured up to what hooks had. Congrats. It was a pleasure getting to spend time with a legend.

I can say this, Toby is unlike many others in the fact kids relate to him and they trust him. He knows exactly what to say and when. If chosen, WO-s found their next coach for life.

I meant it as a compliment.  Is there some history that makes my comment bashing the coach?  I thought Hooks was great in mentoring the WOS students and bringing out the best in the community - recruiting, leadership.  Now can you explain your problem, if you want to do it offline - I'd just like to know.

High school coaches don't recruit.  So for you to come here and say that he was a great recruiter tries to taint his legacy by implying some sort of wrong doing.

You know what you were doing.  Don't insult me by trying to claim that was meant as a compliment.

Whoa, ok a little sensitive are we.  I have nothing but respect for Coach Hooks.  He's a proven winner and everyone knows that.  Of course high school coaches can't actually recruit because of the school district boundries.

They are very sensitve in West Orange. lmao

Nope just tired of hearing the same baseless allegation being thrown at a great coach and even better man for about the last 20 years.

Successful coaches will do what they need to do to win.  Who cares if other teams whine about technicalities or so called "improprieties".  Thats the oldest show in town.  I know several 20-4A teams that would love to trade places and have the recognition for winning and having the state titles Coach Hooks has won.  As a coach, as a person, hats off to you Coach Hooks.

I bet all the officials in the area are throwing a party right now.
:D my favorite quote by Nederland fans ------> "Get off the field Hooks!"  LMAO!!!  I loved going to the WO-S vs. Nederland games at the ol' corral in West Orange  ;D

    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
    • See why I don't trust my Hogs?
    • Come on dude, don’t take anything away from the kids on the field. If you want to talk uncharacteristic, we made what 3 or 4 errors in game one. Y’all had 2 EARNED runs.  Defense is normally our strong suit. Your ace didn’t strike out a single one of our kids. Like I said also, you did not out hit us in game 1. Hell you barley out hit us in game 2. We had all the uncharacteristic walks. Josh pitched a hell of a game is what made that game what it was.
