Your teams biggest rival and what created the rivalry?

Thinking of the rivalries I have been involved with...

It is ashame that so many schools have been closed...

Although PNG vs Nederland is the granddaddy of all rivalries, the PNG TJ game was a close 2nd, and it is no more.

I have also heard of the PNG Lincoln games of old with Little Joe Washington running wild.  It ashame BCP, French, Hebert, Forest Park, South Park, SFA and many more aren't around.  Just think of all the tradition and rivalries that were ended when those schools closed.

Ned/PNG 83 games

silsbee/jasper 69 games

I think what STiger85 was saying, the Silsbee-Jasper rivalry goes back farther than the PNG-Nederland one does. Yes PNG/Ned has played more games but that's because Silsbee/Jasper took a hiatus from each other for several years. Silsbee-Jasper rivalry started before PNG-Nederland did.

hey...i was lookin at that website of PNG/NED...what happened between 1949 and 1953 that let them not play all those years? a team move up or down in class or in a different division?

Don't know, maybe post WWII recovery?  Someone might know.

HD vs WH. About 12 miles apart, the kids all know each other, probably good friends, but come game time it's gloves off, then after the game back to normal.

If the gam lives up to all the smack talking on here it should be showed on ESPN.

very few of us are friends lol but we get along when we have to this rivalry is prety old even though H-D leads in wins overall in the past 10 years i think west hardin has won more.....good luck to both teams this will be one to remember

PNG vs NED '49.......All from Buck Fords 'Down trails of Victory'.........

The school year started with both areas voting on combining both school districts together...........when it came 'game week' both sides showed little remorse for the other.......Nederland folks saying they were going to scalp an Indian at the Nederland Pharmacy......Port Neches folks saying they were going to burn a bulldog at the football field

Reported in 'the Chronicle' also in Fords book.....

On game day officially the word was it was cancelled because of rain........6 hours before game time superintendent of Nederland called PN-G schools and asked to cancel the game due to the field being too wet.........PN-G coaches asked about playing the game on Saturday, instead of a cancellation.......

Also, it says, some fans wanted to see for them selves if the field was playable and felt that it was.......others checked the airport weather bureau and found half an inch of rain had fallen on that Friday.........

1950......All PNG home games were actually played at Nederland because the new stadium on AVE D (today's site) was being built....

It really does not say why they were not rescheduled in the next few years..........PNG did move up to 3a in 1951 and Nederland was in 2a..............both saw the playoffs during the absents of the games, between the two, and it does say both sides showed great support for the other.......

When they did meet up again in 1954 Nederland was 4-0 ranked #1 in 2a and PN-G was 3-0 ranked #1 in 3a (and had just won State in '53).......Nederland would win that game 27-24......

Again all of this info is in Buck Fords book 'Down Trails of Victory'!!!!

Yea, if we didn't beat yall 2 in a row, I would have been  >:( >:( >:(...it's a rivalry mostly because we're district mates.  We have old scores to settle with Brook.

I THOUGHT WE HAD WESTBROOK LAST YEAR. 14 UNANSWERED POINTS. FROG WASN'T TOUCHED ON THAT HITCH WE RAN TO HIM. THEY HAD HIM ONE ON ONE THE HOLD FIRST QUARTER AND WE DIDN'T TAKE ADVANTAGE ENOUGH. THEN WE STOPPED GOING TO HIM COMPLETELY. I WAS PUZZLE. I WONDERED IF THE COACHES NEW WHAT WAS AT STAKE. BMT-ERS TAKE THESE GAMES SERIOUS. WE'LL GET EM THIS YEAR

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
