Should fans be alowed to sit on either side at the basketball game

I think parents should be allowed to sit where they would like, because they have self control. but on the other hand students should have assigned sections completely opposite of each other because when you have to different fans sitting right by each other words will be exchanged and it will probably escalate into a fight and no one wants that...or at least most people don't.

big daddy im gonna have to disagree. remember at the silsbee game? the hecklers were for once observing the arguing. maturity can't be summed up by an age.

I, also think that fans should sit on there side.  Sooner or later there will be a problem.  Stop it before it starts.  You don't see fans sitting on the same side at football or baseball games.  Why basketball?  If you pay $30 - $40 a ticket then you can choose were you sit.  You pay $3 you sit were you are instructed to sit.  Bottom line is if fans are separated you are less likely to have a confrontation.

Thanks Bleed, I appreciate the kind words and I do understand I was just playing devils advocate trying to get deeper into the problem, I guess my biggest point was that what was being said was the problem not sitting next to another parent from another town, I mean I have freinds that live in other towns that I do buisness with and we always take a few shots at each other about upcomming games but it is all in fun. but i guess if it was a perfect worldwe wouldn't need police men and women. dang extremist ruin it for everyone.

and I understand what you are talking about I coached little league for 8 years and only four of those I coached my own son.

HNIC

I appreciate the Hecklers this year, they have really cleaned up their act. I hate to say it but last year it got out of hand several times. They are doing a much better job this year as far as keeping it clean....Still not perfect but by far better than last year. I love to see them when they get really loud, it's so awesome to sit on the other side and hear it. I think the administrators have done a good job giving them some guidelines to go by.

I think when HJ gets a new gym and they should. The seating issue will not be a problem. To all the HJ faithful, you won a state championship last year and have some more in the past. Build these young people a new gym. They deserve it.

Poppabearstarr, I understand what you are trying to say but you know as well as I do that this is going to be an ongoing problem.  I just left a 7th and 8th grade girls game with Hf.  Fans were separated but sitting on the same side.  One man from HF did not like the refs call and began yelling Bull^%$^ and called the ref an S.O.B.  Now not everyone heard him but some did. My point is that even though 99% of the fans are there to watch good basketball, that 1% or less than 1% or idiots and will cause problems.  Since you never know who that 1% will be its much easier to have the two sides separated.  you are less likely to have altercations.

I was at the game too, and I heard him.  He would be the same parent when his daughter was not doing so well in voleyball this year he was yelling at her in front of everyone during the game that she was CHOKEING and LOSING THE GAME FOR HER TEAM, she is maybe 14.  That is an idiot and better off on HIS side of the gym.

agreed. I hate to see a parent that way. It's a shame that it's that way but it's the same way in politics, the vocal majority is usually the minority overall, a small group of very vocal people can swing an election just becuase they it APPEARS they have the community behind them, but thats usually not the case.

and by the way the new gym is coming just had the ground breaking on the new highschool Monday. Good luck to yall the rest of the year, I'm pulling for yall to make the playoffs this year.  ;D

I've read alot of post on this matter and it seems that most have a common opinion on this. "The idiot"!! Everyone has them? Right? Then why are we allowing these idiots to ruin the game for everyone else. There are policies in place for behavior and language on school property--period. Are we saying our kids should follow them but we as parents can do what we want at school events? I think we have abused these policies for so long we are now saying you need to sit here or there so I can break these policies without offending the other teams fans. I'm not saying you can't question a call. That's your right. Everyone does that. Everyone expects different teams and their fans to see calls from a different view. That's o.k. But when people put themselves above the school policy is where you have trouble. When a parent is being abusive in nature he should be escorted from the gym and he should be barred for the remainder of that season at all gyms. That includes profanity and/or direct comments to a player on the other team or comments about a player on the other team. Maybe the loud mouths will shut up on the profanity and cute remarks and the event becomes a controlled school function again. As much as some fans would like to disagree, the game is for the school, the players and it's student body. Fans and parents are down on the list!! The school allows you to watch your kids play. And they can stop that privilege anytime they choose.

I think that shackbully pretty much stated what I said in an earlier post.

It all boils down to maturity and respect. There are rules in place for these events, the school admin I believe is hesitant to take a stand out of fear of retaliation, etc, etc, etc. It is not until a parent/fan gets out of control (rude, cursing, etc) that this is when we wonder what to do. This person must be escorted out and told the rules. The admin staff should have a handout to give them on the way out the door that explains the schools rules concerning behavior.

I also think that there might be a fine line to what we are talking about. In other words, what you think is rude behaviour could be different from the next person thoughts. I hope that we do not get to the point that the parents and fans can not get involved without being escorted out the door.

Again, maturity and respect should dictate our everday life, not just in, on or next to the field of play.

    • Tim Erickson from Orangefield….
    • Lucky for Orangefield there’s only 3 games max to play.    Someone said they had a pitcher or 2 throw 90’s but I don’t know that for a fact.  Rumors.   it appears that Orangefield will see some faster pitchers this round. Generally speaking I haven’t been too impressed with Orangefield opponents pitching. Only pitcher so far that was fast (92 mph) was vs Woodville in first game & Orangefield got several runs off of him.    Looking for a good series with no injuries for both teams.
    • Apologies if this is a stupid question, but why would they just not renew his contract for the 24/25 school year if he had multiple write-ups? I know teachers and paraprofessionals don't get their contract renewed if their performance is bad enough - are coaches' contract situations different?
